I just discovered this yesterday at Costco and thought I'd pass it on.

They have a store's own brand, Kirkland, version of the Hills Science Diet cat food, the dry stuff. Its called Maintenance Diet, and I compared it item by item with the Science Diet I've been feeding my cats, it appears to be the exact same stuff. My cats agree, they tore a hole in the bag to eat it, must smell like the same stuff.

Its $11.99 for a 25 pound bag. The Science Diet sells for $25-$30 a 25 pound bag at places like PetSmart, Petco, etc. I also checked the list of recalled pet food, not on it. Seems like a great savings, especially if you have multiple cats. I didn't check to see if they have dog food, too, but might be worth a try.

We use their dog food and have been very happy with it as well. The Kirkland brand is usually on par with any national brand and at much better prices.

We do too. We get the lamb and rice and used to use Nutro brand. My dog was not phased at all by the change and Kirkland is 1/2 the price.

I too, was impressed with the ingredients on the Kirkland dog food.

Unfortunately, it gave both dogs intermittent bloody diarrhea until I switched them. The vet said it probably meant that they were putting something they shouldn't in the food, and not listing it on the bag. This was after every (expensive) test under the sun to rule out giardia, worms, etc.

Before this neither dog had ever had an issue; I just thought I could save money.

Check out the Purina 1 Lamb and Rice if you're concerned about cost. Lamb is the first ingredient and it's wheat-free.

Sorry to hear your dogs got sick on the Costco stuff. I'll watch my kitties closely, or maybe just take it back. Vet bils aren't cheap!

I just read that the canned version at Costco was added to the recall (over 100 brands now in the recall), but the dry food appears to still be ok.

Exact same thing happened with one of our dogs. Didn't clear up for almost a week after we finally got the food out of her system. She also got the diarrhea from their large "all-natural" Kirkland's dog biscuits.

Our vet said the same thing yours did...there's something in there that they're not listing but to which she's highly allergic.

I've been feeding the Kirkland Signature to our miniature schnauzer for years now and it hasn't bothered her. I was giving her the Lamb and Rice but recently switched to the formula for mature dogs which has Chicken as the main ingredient. Still no problems. :goodvibes

Was that cat or dog food?

i've been feeding it to my cats, no problem so far, but I'm leary. I think I'll stop and switch back to the brand I trust. My fur babies are worth more than the few dollars saved!

I did save the empty bag and receipt, Costco should give a refund.

I have read wonderful things about the Kirkland brand of dog food. Actually, we are in the process of switching our dogs over to their chicken and rice formula as we speak. Here is a list that I read of some very high quality products (and how to rate them)http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=17893973&highlight=kirkland+dog+food#post17893973 and Kirkland has received an A+ .

Thanks, I just printed this off. Like me again, I would also be interested in a cat food list. :thumbsup2
