How are these books test any more or less legit than Corsi's?

The question posed was whether or not there were any pro-Obama books out there. The general train of thought that I got from some here was that there were none. I just wanted to show that not only were there some, but there are many books on Obama's earlier life, from childhood, to his time spent as a community organizer, to Harvard law (written by those who knew him well), to Senator. They're easily found. However, to judge the legitimacy of these books, one would have to read them, footnotes and all, or find a source that you feel is credible and get their opinion, like crcormier did, to make that judgement. The fact that Corsi wrote the Swiftboat memoirs about John Kerry tells me a lot about the man, both as an author and as a purveyor of truth. I wouldn't use any of his writings, from his Swift Boat trash, to his gutter stained swipes at Hillary as a "fat hog" and a "lesbo" who "couldn't stop B.J. Bill being satisfied", to this pitifully researched attempt at character assassination of Barack Obama, to clean up after my dogs. The guy is pond scum...

I don't like books on either side of the political spectrum that smear people. I'm just curious, what did you all think about the book "The Truth About Hillary" by Ed Klein? It's the same type of book. Were you willing to believe everything in it as readily as the load of crap from Corsi?

Some of the falsehoods in "Obama Nation" (from here, where you can find many more):

The divorce

Corsi baselessly suggests that Obama's father, Barack Obama Sr., may have divorced his mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, "following the prescripts of Islamic sharia law." Corsi's sole source for this statement is a blogger who made the claim in a March 20 post, which featured the false headline, "BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA WAS MUSLIM FOR 31 YEARS" and misstated Obama's mother's name as "Shirley Ann." The blogger Corsi cited, "Majalah Bulanan Kumunitas Indonesia Di Edmonton," provided no substantiation for the claim that "the senior Obama divorced Dunham according to Sharia law."

The dedication

On Pages 49-50, Corsi falsely claims that Obama did not dedicate Dreams from My Father to his mother or his grandparents. Corsi writes:

Interestingly, Obama did not dedicate Dreams from My Father to his mother, or to his father, Barack Senior, or to his Indonesian stepfather. Missing from the dedication are the grandparents who raised him in Hawaii, especially during the years his mother abandoned him to return to Indonesia to be with Lolo [Soetoro, Obama's stepfather].

In fact, while the 2004 edition of Dreams -- the version Corsi cites in Obama Nation (Part One, endnote 2, Page 306) -- does not contain a separate dedication page, on Page xvii, the last page of the book's introduction, Obama writes:

It is to my family, though -- my mother, my grandparents, my siblings, stretched across oceans and continents -- that I owe the deepest gratitude and to whom I dedicated this book. Without their constant love and support, without their willingness to let me sing their song and their toleration of the occasional wrong note, I could never have hoped to finish. If nothing else, I hope that the love and respect I feel for them shines through on every page [emphasis added].

What about Barack Senior or his Indonesian stepfather?

Obama's sister

Corsi falsely claims that Obama does not mention the birth of his half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, during the chapter in Dreams in which he discusses his time living in Indonesia. Corsi writes:

In the midst of the personal drama being played against the background of this Indonesian turmoil, on August 15, 1970, Obama's half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, was born to his mother and stepfather. Obama devotes the entire second chapter of his autobiography to his time in Indonesia, but remarkably, he makes no reference to Maya's birth [Page 48].

In fact, on Page 47 of Dreams, in the chapter discussing his time in Indonesia, Obama writes that "my mother and Lolo would remain cordial through the birth of my sister, Maya."

He mentions his sister's name once in the entire book?

Zulfin Adi

Corsi writes that in a March 16, 2007, Los Angeles Times article, "The newspaper quoted Zulfan Adi, who described himself as one of Obama's closest childhood friends" during his time in Indonesia. Corsi further writes:

Adi said neighborhood Muslims worshipped in a nearby house. When the muezzin sounded the call to prayer, Adi remembered seeing Lolo and Barry walk together to the makeshift mosque. "His mother often went to the church," Adi told the Times, "but Barry was a Muslim. I remember him wearing a sarong" [Page 56].

In fact, as Media Matters has noted, key aspects of the March 16 Los Angeles Times article were later challenged by the Chicago Tribune, which reported that Adi said he "was not certain" about his statements regarding Obama's childhood and that he "only knew Obama for a few months." Additionally, the Tribune reported that "nterviews with dozens of former classmates, teachers, neighbors and friends show that Obama was not a regular practicing Muslim when he was in Indonesia."

A 'regular, practicing' Muslim? Why the qualification?

Drug use

Corsi falsely claims that Obama "has yet to answer questions" concerning whether "he stopped using marijuana and cocaine completely in college, or whether his drug use extended into his law school days or beyond." Corsi writes:

Still, Obama has yet to answer questions whether he ever dealt drugs, or if he stopped using marijuana and cocaine completely in college, or whether his drug usage extended into his law school days or beyond. Did Obama ever use drugs in his days as a community organizer in Chicago, or when he was a state senator from Illinois? How about in the U.S. Senate? If Obama quit using drugs, the public inquiry certain to occur in a general election campaign for the presidency will most certainly aim at the when, how and why questions George W. Bush successfully avoided [Page 77].

In fact, Obama wrote in Dreams that he "stopped getting high" shortly after moving to New York City to attend Columbia University as an undergraduate. From Dreams:

When Sadik lost his own lease, we moved in together. And after a few months of closer scrutiny, he began to realize that the city had indeed had an effect on me, although not the one he'd expected. I stopped getting high. I ran three miles a day and fasted on Sundays. For the first time in years, I applied myself to my studies and started keeping a journal of daily reflections and very bad poetry. Whenever Sadik tried to talk me into hitting a bar, I'd beg off with some tepid excuse, too much work or not enough cash [Page 120].

As Media Matters documented, a July 30 WorldNetDaily.com article about Obama Nation also claimed that the book "points out" that "Barack Obama admitted using drugs in his autobiography but never revealed if or when he stopped."

Did he or did he not deal drugs? Why has he not answered this simple question?

This election is a farce; a complete joke.
So, out of the goodness of his heart, King Obama is going to allow Hillary on the ballot.
Here’s the deal: They’ve already warned that ‘she won’t get as many votes as she did in the primary’

… I wonder why that is King Obama?
Could it be because you've been stripping Hillary delegates (which I didn't think was legal) and replacing with Obama delegates? The delegates represent the people NOT King Obama. They’re taking away the people’s voices – the Democratic party needs a new name since they don’t practice democracy.

Legally all of the delegates should be accounted for and place the name of the candidate that they represent on the first ballot. It isn’t until the second ballot that are allowed to change their vote. It sounds like the first ballot is being dismissed entirely.

And why does the OS not understand that Obama isn’t the nominee yet? He never reached the magic number in delegates and will not reach that number until the super delegates vote for him at the convention. Are people really that stupid to not understand this?

So, no true victory for Hillary being (rightfully, since she holds delegates) on the ballot. It’s just a horse and pony show to appease the HS since the OS thugs haven’t been able to bully us into voting for Obama.

I agree with everything but wanted to focus on this. It's what bothers me the most. I'm completely over the idea I had that this party was fair and Democratic. I don't know if it's changed or I'm just seeing it now.

It doesn't help that so many are so ignorant about the process that they think that King Obama is doing her a great favor, and that Hillary is being nothing more than a disruptive witch, when every candidate berore her had the right to take (and most did) their delegates in an intact number.

The only one wanting to act according to the rules it's Hillary. The DNC and BO are changing things. Yet seemingly everybody believes it's the other way around.

What a shame.

Yeah, now apparently her name on the ballot is just "courtesy." Never mind that she got 18M votes. She's nothing but a sore loser.

Am I the ONLY one that thinks it is absolutely absurd that in 2008 this is actually a serious question that a Presidential candidate MUST answer?:sad2:

It is disgustimg that there is a significant amount of evidence to lead one to believe that Obama may have been a Drug Dealer, yet no one in the Media will pose this question to him?:scared1: :scared1:

:worship: :worship: :worship:

Not to mention Hillary is fighting for what has been done at ever single Democrat Convention for the past 200 + years. The DNC wants too shove Obama down everyones throats!

What they really want to do is throw all of us Hillary Supporters in that Puma Jail!:rolleyes1

Obama, The DNC leaders & the Media have become VERY VERY SCARY! None of this is right.

Obama said.....

"I am convinced that honoring Senator Clinton's historic campaign in this way will help us celebrate this defining moment in our history and bring the party together in a strong united fashion," said Obama, an Illinois senator.
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080814/D92I8B581.html

Isnt "swell" of him to do the same thing that has been done for 200+ years.

However i am sooooooooooooo of PROUD of Hillary for standing up to do the right thing. She AINT given up any of her delagates UNTIL the DNC does what they always done.:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I really wont be suprised if after the election both Bill & Hillary go Independant.

. The DNC and BO are changing things. Yet seemingly everybody believes it's the other way around.

Like the rules committee threw out the rules, and told the guy supporting Hillary (WHO WROTE THE FLIPPEN RULES) that he is wrong.
Because this is a "Special" election. :furious: :furious: :furious:

(insert 'sticking finger down throat' smily here)

I can’t confirm this at the moment but I’ve heard that while Obama has finally asked the DNC to seat the full delegation at the Convention, the DNC is not doing it until the last night when Obama is to accept the nomination.

Why? Because it is in Hillary’s favor to seat the full delegation and to not seat them until the last means that Hillary can not use the delegates.

This is why Obama blocked a revote for MI and FL, both states still polled to show Hillary in the lead. It was not to his favor. Now they’re able to make it to his favor and seat the delegates – I’m sure so they can continue to cry their fabrication of party unity. See? We let FL and MI be represented and Obama still won the nomination. There’s not anything unfair about this election. Everyone jump on board now.

Like I said: horse and pony show. Nothing else. I agree with an OS on the other thread - except that OS is in favor of this while I look at it and realize just how loudly it screams of corruption within the party - but they'll do the initial roll call. Hillary will then release her delegates. Then it will turn into one large Obama gag- ooops! ... I mean lovefest.

This convention is a joke; anyone with half a brain knows it. I'm more interested in going to Denver with a video camera to see how the protestors are treated. I bet they all get bruised up, thrown into the warehouse jail and tasered senseless just for chanting.

Thanks. I’ve made my appearance now. I know that on this message board I’m loved by the OS just as much you are…... :rolleyes1
I'm certain that they were happy with me popping in over there. :thumbsup2

Yeah - I had to stick my big nose in over there. I am just amazed by this. Are people that stupid about history and past events? Is the media really that invested in making this man the next president that they have given up the last bit of credibility they were hanging on to?

It must be true - I guess I just have to learn to stop being amazed by it!

Did anyone watch, I guess it was really more of a Q&A than an actual debate? last night with McCain and Obama? I haven't yet. I have it on tivo but I just wasn't up to politics yesterday so I’ll probably watch it today.

I've been reading a few things about what transpired yesterday. Apparently Obama lied on the question of what was the most gut-wrenching decision of his life? He stated that it was to vote against the Iraq war.

:confused3

He wasn't in the senate then. He had about as much of an opportunity to vote for or against the Iraq war as I did - which is none. Did he not get called out for that obvious lie?

Someone that completely jumped on the Obama bandwagon once the primaries were over was Taylor Marsh. I can’t stand to read anything she writes anymore as I feel she’s become as bad as the mainstream media in her bias for Obama. But, surprisingly, she did offer some criticism about yesterday’s event that I found interesting:

Obama could have had policy answers ready to help push forward why Democratic policies are grounded in humanity and morality, which proves why he'd be a much better president. Instead he offered his standard word fogs without any goal whatsoever, much like he did in the primaries where Clinton regularly cleaned his clock. McCain came with policy talking points and a goal. Our guy better get a debate drill sergeant in and do some work, because so far there's no evidence he's going to best McCain in them. Obama's hour is now, minus the Clarence Thomas answers, completely forgettable. Not good. McCain even got in an answer on Georgia and Russia, which folded into freedom and energy issues. Minus the ridiculous, ad nauseam "my friend" belches, quite a performance for the neocon McCain. Why do you want to be president? I can't remember Obama's answer. McCain's came in a sound bite: "I want to inspire a generation of Americans to serve a cause greater than their self-interest." Obama better game up.

What does everyone else think about the Q&A/debate/whatever?

I am not really interested in seeing it. I cannot vote for Obama and at this point most things he says just make me angrier. I prefer to insulate myself as much as possible from mainstream political coverage for my own mental peace. :headache:

Understandable. I keep trying to get away from politics for my own sanity but it's like a bad car wreck: I can't look away even though I should.

Yes, bad car wreck is a good way to describe it, really.

I didn't see the Q&A. Honestly I didn't know anything about it. Had I known I might have watch at least some of it.

So, Obama lied on TV? No one called him on it? Could it be that the questioner
(as so many people do) believed BO was in the Senate back then and voted?

This is my thought, too, but I did watch last night. I have been and still am a Hillary supporter, but know that I will not be voting for Obama in this election. Listening last night made me feel much more comfortable with McCain and reinforced my thoughts about Obama.

I think that a lot of people don’t think about the outline of things. I believe that he was already in the state senate by that point – but the state senators didn’t have a vote for the war.

Obama claims that he was against the war in 2003 and that he gave a big speech in protest. Here’s the deal: There is no documentation of that speech. The Obama campaign had to go back and reenact that speech… seriously, it was an reenactment – which I doubt a lot of people realize. But “I was against the war” was one of his big selling points against Hillary in the primaries.

I guess that the “I was against the war” has smoothly turned into “I didn’t vote for the war”. When thinking with this line of logic, he didn’t vote for the war so that in itself is a fact. However, since he was asked about his most ‘gut-wrenching’ decision and he never had to make that decision it turns that statement into a lie.

I’m really not surprised, however, with his line statements. This is the same man that while over in Iraq (?) made the statement … “when I was in the senate…”. Huh? You still are in the senate but I’ve heard that his campaign staff already refers to him as ‘President’ Obama and I believe that he thinks he already is. This is also the man who said that the US Senate Bank Committee was ‘his’ committee and that “we passed..” and that man has never been on that committee a day in his life.

I didn't see the Q&A. Honestly I didn't know anything about it. Had I known I might have watch at least some of it.
:confused3 I didnt know about it either!:confused3
What channel was it even on?

I am SHOCKED!!!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
