From Michael Medved:

I bolded where I agreed.

I'm interested in hearing Obama's speech tomorrow. Cause this stuff has definitively touched a nerve.

Just passing through I promise. I caught this post and I have to say it appears that the BO camp only thinks it has touched a nerve with Reps and Clinton supporters. Reading here and reading there is like night and day. Seriously, I don't know how you guys (Dems) will pull it back together.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Facing strong opposition, Florida Democrats on Monday abandoned plans to hold a do-over presidential primary with a mail-in vote and threw the delegate dispute into the lap of the national party.

While the decision by Florida Democrats left the state's 210 delegates in limbo, Democrats in Michigan moved closer to holding another contest on June 3. Legislative leaders reviewed a measure Monday that would set up a privately funded, state-administered do-over primary, The Associated Press learned.

Florida Democratic Party chairwoman Karen L. Thurman sent a letter announcing the decision.

What will this mean for Clinton?

Florida on not revoting...some highlights.
http://thepage.time.com/florida-democratic-party-letter-on-revote-decision/

“The rules are the rules.” Unfortunately, the rules did not apply to Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina when they, too, violated the DNC calendar by moving from their assigned dates.

The Florida Democratic Party has stuck to its principles throughout this debate. We’ve remained open-minded while never wavering from our commitment to an open and fair election that would allow all Florida Democrats to participate, whether serving in Iraq, retiring in Boca, studying abroad or entertaining at a theme park.

They're not going to hold any more elections but it seems they're telling the DNC it wasn't their fault and the vote they had was open and fair to everyone on the ballot. Seems like they're pushing to count them as they are.

So Iowa, NH and SC broke the rules also, yet they were not penalized....hmmm

This means off we go to the Supreme court...AGAIN!:scared1:

I dunno about that!:confused3

But I do know that The GOP gave only half the delegates to their FL voters.

I like this quote from the article.

As the late great Democratic President Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “We must adjust our ideas to the facts of today… Rules are not necessarily sacred, principles are.”

Since FL Democrat party had the largest turnout in their history and all the candidates were on the ballot, then seat them as they stand now.

De-lurking to say that IA, NH, SC, and NV (for the Dems at least) were all given ok's by the DNC to move their primary ahead of February 5th, so they didn't break any rules.

Carla, for MOST of us it will be easy. Others will need to be threatened with the thought of McCain as President :rotfl:. But they too will come around back to the fold.

I've been saying this all along. I can understand MI - as all of the candidates names were not on the ballot.

But in FL -- they were all there. People went out & voted. So what there was no campaigning !! Probably a blessing in disguise!

FL delegates don't get counted? Kiss FL good bye again in the Dem column.......

Iowa and NH ALWAYS get to go first. This needs to change - there is no reason for this monopoly on vetting the candidates.

I don't know what SC's excuse was......

Well, if the economy continues to falter, many voters (rightly or wrongly) will blame the party in the White House.

Interesting - about the lawsuit.

I don't know - the DNC is trying to have it both ways

- having elections that decide the nominee
- but then reserve the right to not count certain votes - and in essence - can pick the nominee themselves........

Attorney: DNC violating Constitution
Posted: 04:45 PM ET

ATLANTA (CNN) — The Democratic National Committee is violating the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment by allowing only four states to hold caucuses or primaries before the first Tuesday in February, a Florida attorney argued Monday before a federal appeals court.

Attorney Michael Steinberg filed suit in August on behalf of Democratic Party activist Vincent Dimaio after the DNC said it would not seat Florida delegates at the national convention because the state party defied party rules and scheduled its primary for January 29.

A federal judge in Florida dismissed the lawsuit in October, but Dimaio appealed.

"You can't treat the citizens of some states differently than other states," Steinberg told reporters after the hearing. "What I tried to assert is that the DNC has the right to make rules … but the rules have to be the same for all the states."

According to party rules, only Iowa, South Carolina, Nevada and New Hampshire can schedule their primaries or caucuses prior to the first Tuesday in February. Steinberg argued that the 14th Amendment, which bars states from denying individuals equal protection under the law, should prohibit the DNC from creating rules that make the votes of the citizens of those four states "paramount to the rights of the voters in Florida."

Joe Sandler, attorney for the DNC, told the three-judge panel that the committee is a private entity and "is actually exercising its own constitutional right by not seating delegates."

"The point we were trying to make in court today is that it's up to the parties themselves to determine the best means of selecting delegates to the convention, and it's not really a matter for a court to resolve," he told reporters later.

Dimaio, who referred to himself as the "little guy" who speaks for Floridians, told reporters that it is unfair for only four states to be allowed to hold primaries or caucuses in January.

"If you go before February 5, you're basically screwed because you get no delegates," he said. "We've lost 210 delegates. We're the fourth largest state in the nation and we have zero delegates."

"I'm not asking for a penny, I'm not asking for a dime in this action," Dimaio said. "I'm just asking for my vote to count."

The appellate court is not expected to deliver a decision until next month. Steinberg, who is handling the case pro bono, said that if the ruling goes against Dimaio, he will appeal to the Supreme Court.

I agree. After the primary I switched my party affliation from Democrat to Independent partly because of this mess. It was such a bummer voting knowing my vote wasn't going to count but I went anyway because I thought there was no way they wouldn't count them because this is America. Boy was I wrong. :sad2: I really think this will end up hurting the Democrats come November.

Wow - that Obama speech is going to be really interesting tomorrow:
See the bolded comment - it looks like he is going to defend the pastor..... I have to admit - that is daring. He said some pretty nasty things.

And - they have him on tape - that will be used over and over and over again......

Obama set to deliver speech on race, Wright
Posted: 06:00 PM ET

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) — Far from putting the controversial issue of race behind him, Barack Obama has decided to address the issue head on in a speech Tuesday.

"I am going to be talking not just about Reverend Wright, but the larger issue of race in this campaign — which has ramped up over the last couple of weeks," Obama told reporters in Monaca, Pennsylvania.

Obama's chief strategist David Axelrod characterized the speech, to be delivered in Philadelphia, as "a discussion on race and politics."

"Given the events of the last few weeks, Obama felt it was time to address the issue of race and politics directly, and what it means in our country," Axelrod said.

News of the speech comes days after the Illinois senator formally denounced controversial sermons delivered by his former minister and longtime friend, Jeremiah Wright. The racially-charged remarks came under fire after being the subject of an ABC News report last week.

Axelrod described the Illinois senator as "a force for reconciliation" and said he wants the opportunity "to put this into context."

Speaking with reporters, Obama said the media is portraying Wright inaccurately.

"I think the caricature that is being painted of him is not accurate, and so part of what I will do tomorrow is to talk about how these issues are perceived from within the black church community for example which I think skews this very differently."

UPDATE: Axelrod later told CNN's Gloria Borger that the Illinois senator has "always contemplated giving a speech like this."

“He will address the broader questions of race and politics, these are complex issues that transcend Barack Obama, and are fault lines in our politics and society, and, ultimately, can be a barrier…They’re easily exploited, and hard to address," he said.

I couldn't care less!:sad2: He will just lie more to cover his other lie, about the original lie!

I'm guessing this whole deal is going to cause people to go back over stories that have already run the past year too with a new perspective. This was e-mailed to me yesterday. It ran March of last year.

Obama has told the story--one of the watershed moments of his racial awareness--time and again, in remarkable detail.

He is 9 years old, living in Indonesia, where he and his mother moved with her new husband, Lolo Soetoro, a few years earlier. One day while visiting his mother, who was working at the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, Obama passed time by looking through several issues of Life magazine. He came across an article that he later would describe as feeling like an "ambush attack."

The article included photos of a black man who had destroyed his skin with powerful chemical lighteners that promised to make him white. Instead, the chemicals had peeled off much of his skin, leaving him sad and scarred, Obama recalled.

"I imagine other black children, then and now, undergoing similar moments of revelation," Obama wrote of the magazine photos in "Dreams."

Yet no such Life issue exists, according to historians at the magazine. No such photos, no such article. When asked about the discrepancy, Obama said in a recent interview, "It might have been an Ebony or it might have been ... who knows what it was?" (At the request of the Tribune, archivists at Ebony searched their catalogue of past articles, none of which matched what Obama recalled.)

***
He describes making friends easily, becoming fluent in Indonesian in just six months and melding quite easily into the very foreign fabric of Jakarta.

The reality was less tidy.
...
Teachers, former playmates and friends recall a boy who never fully grasped their language and who was very quiet as a result.

***
But Kakugawa, a convicted drug felon, said Saturday that he had never been the "prototypical angry black guy" that Obama portrays. Because of his biracial heritage, he said, he was "like everyone in Hawaii, a mix of a lot of things."

A close friend and track teammate of Kakugawa, John Hagar, also said he was surprised by Obama's description of the character representing Kakugawa as an angry young black man. "I never picked up on that," Hagar said. "He was just one of those perfect [ethnic] mixes of everything you see in Hawaii."

I don't think he's a racist. I think, and have always stated, he's a typical politician. He'll say or do anything to get elected. And that includes bringing race into play if it will benefit him. I think it's going to turn around and bite him now.

This has always been my major concern with Obama. Everything he says is HIS own interpetation. And many people just except what he says as fact.:headache:
The media hasnt questioned him. And when they do, he never answers the question....EVER!:scared1:

I found it interesting that when questioned about Wright, Obama basically said "wait for my speech in Philly" No off the cuff remarks for him. He'd rather give speeches than answer questions or debate.

You know - I hate to say it - but this reminds me of the way Bush campaigned in 2000. He never answered questions from reporters - and yet they still preferred him over Gore........
