Hijinks & Shenanigans but not much Mayhem@The Dark Side+Disney:Link to DL/Hawaii TR

All caught back up Dee! Love all the pictures. La Hacienda looks fantastic and of course now I want chips and salsa at 10 at night....:rotfl:

:confused3

Brenda, was that you who encountered that during one of your visits? WHY do the Disney dining reservation CMs even give us a confirmation number if the restaurants cant access them???

.

Yes, I had that happen at Raglan Road in February. Also, happened at 'Ohana a couple trips ago. I agree... :badpc:

Em ordered that dessert and I sure wish I would have tried it since it looked good. :)

Glad you score this meal so high. I really like La Hacienda as well.

Coming back to see your pics better. That food looks so good. Going to La Hacienda in October. I might have to try the exact same thing. With a rita, of course! :rotfl2:

I just realized that as I posted my reply to your previous post you had posted another! Oopsie!
I love the SE pics!
I was once told my a cm at San angel that if we arrived within 45 minutes either way of our reservation time that they could accommodate us. Who really knows, but it looks like it worked that way for you guys!
Dinner looks (and sounds!) delicious! Especially dessert!

All caught up again!

Okay so you were late to your ADR because you rode BTMRR AND SSE, got there a half hour late and were still seated in 5 minutes? LOL jealous! We're always late for ADRs. Actually we are always late for everything. I need this...

The food looks amazing! We love mexican food, but have never considered an ADR for either place because we have some really good seriously authentic Mexican food here (crazy, considering it's Maryland and the only Mexican families in our little town are the ones that run the restaurants) but now maybe we should reconsider! We had the CS there 2 trips ago and it was really good.

Uh oh, hope you weren't late for an important date...

Dee, slowly getting caught up again.

I love Spaceship Earth and was so sad we didn't get on it last month. :(

We've never eaten at La Hacienda (I don't do Mexican). It's very pretty in there and if I show Mark your food porn he is going to want to give it a try.

So sorry it has taken me so long to get to responses! Have not had much time to DIS this week :(

I also apologize if I am way behind on your trip report. Hope to catch up in the next day or so.

I can't believe the mom left the two kids by themselves! Wow.
On the other hand, I'm glad the Pooh karma worked out so well for you! That is some awesome karma at work.

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

Yup, that surprised us too! We have just started becoming comfortable with separating from the boys for short periods of time at places like Disney, but they are 15 and 12.

We did have a charmed afternoon and night ahead of us.

:thumbsup2

For a moment I thought I missed your latest and then realized you just posted it. Too bad I'm reading from my phone. *sigh*.

Doesn't matter - great update. You really are a rebel there - riding SSE and then arriving Kate for your ADR. Insert laugh smilie here. And u were rewarded with a fabulous view.

Smart choices on the entrees. That meal that serves two really serves like 3 people. I've tried the fish version. May have to try the beef next time.

I'll stop back later when I can really see your pics!

Glad you found the update.

The fish version tempted us too, but we knew more stuff on the meal we ordered would appeal to Nate. But Mark ordered the tilapia entrée and that was fabulous too!

I would like to order both the fish and carne (meat) platters but that would be WAY too much food for the 4 of us.

::yes::

That food looks amazing!!!!! Definitely putting that restaurant on our list (maybe when DS is older and we can really enjoy it!)

It was SOOOOOOO good!

:goodvibes

Wow what a view from your table  Food looks amazing too! We have never eaten here but I'd definitely be tempted in the future! It would amazing to watch illuminations from there too:goodvibes

We probably could have lingered here and watched Illuminations, but I had places to go and people (person) to see!!!

:yay:

Great update. I can never decide if I want to try La Hacienda or San Angel. I think you made up my mind for me. La Hacienda looks amazing. Thanks for knocking one off my long list of possible ADR. Not saying this will make the final cut, as my DH has to be in the mood for Mexican food. Me I could eat it three four times a week.

We haven't been to San Angel in a lot of years- before we started taking the kids to Disney. We enjoyed it, especially the ambiance, but it is a little too dark for me. I prefer a bright restaurant.

We will definitely be back to La Hacienda on our next trip.

::yes::

Great pics! :)

Thank you!

:goodvibes

My kids love SSE as well, and that souds like something we would do. If fact we have probably done the same thing. Lol

We are almost always a half hour late for our ADRs and never had a problem keeping the reservation. I've heard they hold them for 45 min. It's really not easy sometimes making those ADRs so far in advance. KWIM!!?

My DH loves mexican food. Me not so much (well I do like Taco Bell LOL) So we have never tried either Mexican at Epcot. Although I have said I'd love to try San Angel just for the atmosphere. I usually say it when on the Gran Fiesta ride.
I really would like to try it. It's not like I wont eat mexican it's just not one of my favorites, and when you're spending that much $$ in disney, well you know.
What a great table you got there! Keep the karma comin!!

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

The design your future addition to SSE definitely makes this one a winner for the kids. Especially when they decide to do a silly photo.

Mark really does not like to be late for anything. But he was fine with taking a few minutes on the ride. We had also decided that we would be perfectly happy dining around the world if we couldn't get into the restaurant. And we weren't on the dining plan, so we wouldn't be compromising any credits.

But that was before we actually had tried the food!

I don't recall the food being especially spicy and I'm not sure that you would even know the tilapia with the mango salsa was "Mexican". It was just yummy!

:)

Not sharing their desserts, eh? We have the "Everybody gets 1 bite of what you ordered" rule in my family. The tinier the dessert, the tinier the bite! If you've ever seen a petit four divide 5 ways then you know that it's not pretty!

~NM

I'm sure if we had wanted a bite or two, we could have tried it. But Mark and I were SO full! Plus, I needed to leave a little room for a nightcap.

:drinking1

We always do that, too. That is one of the best things about staying at the BC. We don't need to use the buses very often. ;)

My DH loves Spaceship Earth and I always have to stop at Cool Club for my favorite VegiBeta drink. :)

That's it - we are eating here when we stay at the BC in May. I love Mexican food and Disney has been lacking in this category - until now. :thumbsup2

I think we have only used the bus to return to the BC from the MK once, out of at least 9 trips to the MK. The monorail to EPCOT is such a great ride (It is TOO a ride)

SSE and Club Cool are both nice stops on the way to wherever you are actually going!

:rotfl2:

We all loved the food at La Hacienda! Even my super finicky teen.

:woohoo:

Wow! What a great view of World Showcase from the restaurant. Can you imagine watching Illuminations from that table?!?! The food looks so good and there's so much of it.

A few of my friends have watched Illuminations from La Hacienda and they loved it! My seat would have been perfect.

We ordered way more food than we needed, but I don't know what I would be willing to give up. Maybe the salad.

;)

I've never eaten there before but it looks delicious!! May have to add that to my list. I think we must be related because we both dig a great water view from a restaurant. :thumbsup2 My favorite water view is from Rose & Crown!

It is always a bonus when you get a spectacular view in addition to delicious food.

We have never been to the Rose & Crown! I hear the food and views are great there, though.

:thumbsup2

That's something I need to do more often, the monorail into EPCOT. I love that it goes in and over. Definitely gonna do that more.

I was just thinking about Brenda's similar situation with lack of confirmation number. It was in Downtown Disney I think (but I could totally be wrong on that). It's so strange. :confused3

And boy they really punished you for arriving late.

pooh: Karma all over the place.

The mono from MK to EP is awesome. My heart actually starts pounding faster as we pass by the different parts of Future World and get a glimpse of the World Showcase.

I don't get the confirmation number thing! I'm pretty sure the restaurants used to be able to look up your reservation when you gave them the number. It really is a mystery since Disney has such a user-friendly website and world-class tech interaction.

:rotfl2:

Thankfully we didn't get the 'Ohana treatment. We were late for a reservation there once... I think we are still waiting to be seated!

:upsidedow

You naughty girl...but that is so funny. I would tll that same white lie if I had to.

I don't even know why I thought I had to lie. I was just embarrassed that we were late. And that some of it (the ride on SSE) was under our control. But they didn't know that.

I decided to pretend that I thought our reservation was later than it was.

:sad2:

All caught back up Dee! Love all the pictures. La Hacienda looks fantastic and of course now I want chips and salsa at 10 at night....:rotfl:

Thank you-

I don't think there is anything wrong with chips and salsa at 10 PM. It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere!

:goodvibes

I thought I remembered that.

Nate is a sucker for apples and caramel and pastry.

Can't wait to read about your meal at La Hacienda.

::yes::

I'm jealous! That is definitely one way to improve our meal. There was a blueberry margarita that intrigued me, but I knew I would be having a drink later so I didn't have anything with dinner.

:)

Not a problem!

I thought the pictures of our future were cute. We both love the underwater world, so the scuba pictures were totally us. I think the boys had really good pictures too, but I didn't get any photos.

Great shirt!!!

Your comment made me realize that what we had at La Hacienda was not just great Mexican food. It was simply amazing food! If you know what I mean.

Dee, slowly getting caught up again.

We've never eaten at La Hacienda (I don't do Mexican). It's very pretty in there and if I show Mark your food porn he is going to want to give it a try.

Oh no! Sorry you didn't get to go on SSE! It was one of our favorites on our first visit in 1983, and it remains one of our favorites today. And it is even better with the ending sequence designing your future.

OK, hide the food porn from Mark!

;)

you naughty family you! Pushing it already and then SE? :rotfl2: you are killing me. Still, I am very glad you got in (and WHY do they bother with confirmation numbers is right) and more importantly that you loved it that much. I adore that place. No clue when I will be back but I really really love it and those views are just wonderful.

I love Pooh Karma!!! :lmao:
We love La Hacienda. The grill platter is one of my favorites. Yum!
Glad you were able to still get in, despite your lateness. (shame! :rotfl2: ).

I wish I could say this was the naughtiest thing we did on the trip, but I do something on the last day of our trip that really pushes the limits of acceptable Disney behavior.

:rolleyes1

The title of that chapter is "I'm Not Proud of What I Did. Well, Maybe a Little"

La Hacienda was Mark's and my favorite meal of the trip. YUM!

:thumbsup2

Your review of La Hacienda is one of the ones I remember. I would guess that one of those grill platters could feed most of your family!

I am so glad we ate there!!! We'll be back!

I dont really have a comic for this update, but since this one that was in the paper yesterday is PERFECT for the last update, Im going to use it:

Im sure many of you can relate to what I am about to write.

My husband does not entirely understand the very real friendships I have formed with people I only know through the DIS

The idea that we actually want to meet up with some of these friends if we happen to cross paths (usually at the World) is perplexing to our significant others and members of our family.

I had not yet broken the news to my family that several of my internet friends were here at the same time as us, and that I wanted to see them in person.

My first planned meet up was with my dear friend Nannette who has been a great contributor and supporter of me over on the Beach and Yacht Club FAQ board. It was my first day at Disney and the last night of her trip. She had been staying at BCV earlier in her trip but had moved over to SSR or OKW (cant remember which) and she agreed to meet me in EPCOT/France at for a Grey Goose Slushie during Illuminations. I think our planned meeting time was 8:45. When we were setting up the time and place of our get together, I emailed her:

I wonder how many people I can randomly run into during our trip before my family figures out that these are planned meetings?

The thing is, since we were late for our dinner at La Hacienda, it was quickly approaching 8:30 and I had to tell my family that I wanted to get together with a friend in France and that I needed to leave. I asked Mark to finish up with the check at the restaurant and told him that we would be on the bridge between France and the UK if they wanted to stop by on the way back to the room.

I booked it over to France and I think I arrived at the Grey Goose Slushie kiosk EXACTLY at our appointed meeting time. Nannette and I exchanged hugs and got in line for our drinks.

We had a lovely visit! We chatted while the fireworks were going on. We talked about our trips so far, and Nannette talked about her upcoming trip introducing her husband to Disney for his first visit (which recently happened and was a successful trip) and about her daughter Stephanie who recently got married. Mark and the boys came along. The boys said hello and then headed back to the Beach Club. Mark stayed for a few minutes. Then he left to catch up with the boys.

Nannette and I stayed for a few minutes longer, but she had an early start the next day for her return home, and I had a morning that had started at 5 am and included 3 theme parks and a resort change: Islands of Adventure, Magic Kingdom, EPCOT and a move from the Hard Rock to the Beach Club.

It was a spectacular ending to a pretty awesome day!

pooh: Karma

Next up: Weve been Moused!

I am only too happy to admit that my family and especially my hubby think having this group of Dis friends and meeting up with them occasionally is really, really cool. I love them for that!
A ggs, illuminations and a Dismeet -- wow! Can't get much better than that! Glad you were able to arrange it :)

A DISmeet w a GGS- YuM!! While watching Illuminations- awesome!!

My DH thought I was NUTS stopping and saying hi to Teena a couple of years ago. Lol

Glad you had a chance to meet up. Have you met in person before?

My husband would have the exact reaction to a DIS meet. In fact why you describe is the plan I had already half formulated in my mind if I were to do any DISmeets during our trip! Hmmm maybe we will just run into each other. :)

It looks like you guys had fun. How was that grey goose martini? It keeps popping up on TRs I may have to give it a try.

I love DIS meets; and I am lucky in that my husband doesn't mind them and often enjoys them as much as I do (although he will once in awhile complain that I plan too many :lmao::lmao:). And as we have met our very best friends here through the DIS (MickeyNicki--Nicki and her husband, Todd) he thinks it is a great thing.

I'm so glad you got to spend some time with Nannette and share a beverage and some girl talk. :)

You sly dog.
My family does think I am weird meeting other Diser's too, but they are starting to get used to it. My Dad is just amazed when people recognize me. :rotfl2:

My DH has gotten used to my internet friends. The first, and only so far, meet up I had involved flying out to Allentown, PA to run a half marathon with a bunch of internet friends I met on a runner's forum. Since then I've made international friendships with people from all over the world on the Harry Potter forum that I have been a part of for years. If I was to run into someone I met on this forum, he would probably just roll his eyes and go somewhere else for awhile. ;)

I was surprised my hubby didn't think meeting people at Disney was weird. He did think stopping at the mall the day after my son's wedding to meet a couple of friends might have been. I belong to a huge Disney group on fb and we exchanged Christmas cards last year. He was surprised that these people were real. He knows when we go there will be meets.

I can see Johnny being pretty enthusiastic about meeting your friends.

Yes, it was wonderful meeting Nannette face to face and even better with the backdrop of Illuminations while enjoying a refreshing GGS.

I had not met Nannette before this trip.

My first meeting with Teena was pretty funny. I had mentioned Teena once or twice before our first trip to the Beach Club. Before we arrived, I actually put together a photo album of some of the frequent posters on the BC/YC FAQ board (now there is some trust, I PMed a whole bunch of people I hadn't met and they emailed me pictures of their families). When we walked into the lobby, Teena and I hugged and I gave her the present that my family knew nothing about. They were like :confused3

:lmao:

I love it when a plan comes together! Feel free to use it if necessary.

The GGS was good- refreshing and didn't taste too strong. That was the first time I tried one. The Grand Marnier (orange) one is good too.

But neither compare to the Sunken Treasure I had later that week at the Beach Club- this drink, which has actually been removed from the menu at the pool bar has become the signature drink of the Yacht & Beach Club FAQ thread. Some of us even bring along laminated recipe cards in case we get a bar tender who doesn't know how to make one.

:drinking1

Nannette and I had a short, but really nice, visit.

My family does think I am weird meeting other Diser's too, but they are starting to get used to it. My Dad is just amazed when people recognize me. :rotfl2:

My strangest near encounter was a woman who recognized me from my trip reports when we were both in Atlantis. She was going to come and say hi to us, but she said I walked by way too fast. Yup. Sounds like me!

:rotfl:

She posted that she saw me on my report after she returned.

I truly treasure the friends I have made through these boards!

Love the Christmas cards I get from my Disney friends!

When I am telling my husband a story from something I have read here, I will start by saying to him "So, one of my imaginary friends from the DIS..."
