High School Prank Suspends Half of Senior Class

It mows off. Entering the school was not a good idea. We tp'd our school. And tied balloons and stuff to the principal & VP cars.
In how long? Graffiti washes off, TP can be cleaned up, grass grows back, etc.

TWO weeks of in-school suspension??? TEN DAYS? For forks in a football field?

What a bunch of authoritarian squares.

In fact, the kids should be commended for aerating the turf for free.
Did you read the entire article? The forking wasn't the problem. It was the breaking into the school and what they did in there that was.

And the kids who only did the forking may have gotten more sympathy from the public and even the school if their parents didn't act like complete self righteous jerks. The attitude that because their kids are top of the class, they should skate, really rubs people the wrong way. As it should.

Seems pretty harmless. However, if it’s a long-standing tradition, you’d think the kids would be aware of the likely consequences, based on the school’s response in previous years. I see no problem with all participants (honors students or otherwise) being treated equally. I wonder if the parents are more upset than the students?

Senior prank was not a thing at my HS, nor my son’s in a nearby district 35 years later. We did have Senior Cut Day, when seniors skipped classes and went to the beach. DS’s class also did a great “lip dub” video involving all the seniors, principals and faculty.

My DDs forked our yard for my DH’s 50th birthday this past December - totally harmless. Suspending kids for destroying property or harming people is understandable, but for something like this is ridiculous. When my DD22 was a senior they dropped 100s of ping pong balls down on this large area, during passing period, from an upstairs balcony. Everyone thought it was funny and they did pick up the balls. Senior pranks is a part of high school - as long as they are harmless, then let the kids make fun memories for themselves - IMO

I'm less concerned about the forks than I am on why it appears that Death is taking the picture

I don't see anywhere that specified that they broke into the school. The number of times our district has a door unlocked for some event or game or whatever... people can get in without damage to property or picking locks or whatever.

I will agree that this is a crappy defense. Doesn't matter if they were honor kids or not. (But it was still funny)

My junior high school had substandard plumbing. If kids in one of the bathrooms flushed all four toilets together, the plumbing couldn't handle it. No plumbing = health hazard so school had to be dismissed. Of course the kids did it regularly, especially toward the end of the year. The city didn't want to replace the plumbing because it would involve digging up a pipeline that ran under a nearby highway. (They eventually did the work.) Things came to a "head" when the kids threw big rocks at the commodes, breaking the porcelain. By today's cost of living, they caused thousands of $$$$$ worth of damage. The parents had to pay the damages but no students were suspended, and teachers were instructed not to let it affect their grades.

Sticking a few forks in a lawn and decorating with balloons doesn't even come close.

In my area a meth lab blew up a block from one of the high schools about a month before throwing the book at a bunch of kids for putting Jello in the water and whatever else the prank involved. I think people need a reality check on intent and severity, I'd submit that an inability to recognize that this knee jerk nonsense is not Justice is the problem. If you can't spot a meth lab before it explodes within 500 feet of a school you have lost all credibility trying to enforce a Peacekeeping Jello infraction. I have no taste for the inane strong arming of young people. They should leave the kids with the forks alone and focus on bigger things.

Meth lab = law enforcement
School prank = school officials

I don't get the comparison

By me they pressed charges so it became a whole legal mess for the families costing thousands and nearly cost a bunch of kids their education. Hope it stays in the school in Texas.

What on earth does meth lab detection have to do with a school prank?

Honestly a lot of us might be surprised what goes on in our neighborhoods...in homes that look perfectly fine..in nice neighborhoods too. But that doesn't have anything to do with this

OK, so to put a finer point on it, law enforcement missed the meth lab BUT had the time to prosecute a bunch of kids for Jello.

Seems priorities are off these days all over the place.

I think it boils down to the school not wanting to have to defend their decisions if they let some pranks go and they come down hard on others, so they just come down hard on all of them. Plus, I do agree that if they actually entered the school during hours when it was supposed to be closed, that was probably the real issue out of everything.

But I'm also a humorless grump who thinks pranks in general are dumb at best and destructive or dangerous at worse. ;) To me this one just falls into the dumb category. ;)

Did the school press charges? If they did then your beef is with the school.

Blaming the police for not finding a meth lab (strange because like I said you'd be surprised what goes on in your neighborhoods) and comparing that to finding the time (really?) for this jello thing is just a red herring. I think you're just annoyed the kids got a punishment, fine I got that, but leave the meth lab out of it, it's not related.

I think two weeks is really long for such an easily-cleaned up prank as plastic forks. I would have just made them clean up their mess, and then maybe another spot too - the town square or something.

This literally made me LOL!

My DD was wearing her new Compfy we gave her for Christmas, and she was wearing it with the hood up. I always thought her shadow looked pretty funny, but I never compared it to Death. Now every time I look at this picture I will remember your post and chuckle - LOL!
