High School Class of 2016/College Class 2020

So, is the financial offer a separate letter or email for you all? My DD is going public University and has accepted the admission but never received any kind of financial aid info at all. We have done the FAFSA.

My guess is that they won't start sending out the financial aid letters until after the March 2nd deadline for filing the FAFSA (but that is just a guess).

Same here. We received mail that daughter was accepted into two colleges but no financial info.

My dd applied to a number of out of state public universities. Many of them had merit funds available for out of state students if they hit certain benchmarks. Those offers were received pretty early on. Not with the acceptance, but before the FAFSA deadline. After completing the FAFSA, she got notice of available financial aid.

When you got notice of available financial aid did it come to your email or in the snail mail?

One school (private) sent acceptance and mentioned financial aid coming later - it came in a week. She got accepted into a public last week and no mention of any financial aid at all.

DD got scholarship and financial aid notification with her acceptances at 2 schools. Big out of state public school's offer was not tied to income in any way, just scholarship $$ based on GPA and SAT/ACT scores. Private college was based on scores, GPA, and the CSS Profile we submitted.

The one other school DD has already been accepted to, our state's flagship public university, will release aid offers at the beginning of April. The other 4 universities that we are waiting to hear from, all private, out of state schools, will release acceptances and financial aid offers together at the end of March/beginning of April.

We have not heard back from one college (Daughter's favorite). Do you think this means she will not be accepted or do you think we will still hear something from them either way?

We had something similar from the private schools too. Email saying she was accepted and then that was followed up by the letter with the merit scholarship information. For her first choice school, that was way back in December. But none of the schools (public or private) have sent anything about the financial aid yet (not sure if that is because we don't qualify for any or if they just haven't gone out yet).

I did just go check the Cal State website and there was something in there about receiving financial aid information 4-6 weeks after filing the FASFA so now I'm not sure when it should show up, LOL.

You will hear from them, whether she is accepted or not. Nowadays, most schools email the student with a code to enter when they go on the university website- that leads to a portal with their personalized acceptance/decline notice. A snail mail letter is sent later.

Have you had her log onto the college's website? They should list what date the final decisions will be released if they don't do rolling admissions. I believe College Board also lists decision dates. If you are concerned about not hearing something yet, I wouldn't hesitate to contact the Office of Admissions and ask. They should be able to let you know either when the notices will go out, or how to access the decision information if it has already been released.

Grrrrrrrr, so I got home from school expecting the envelope from my top choice which said I would here from them by the end of February. Still nothing. This is so d--- nerve racking and annoying.

Both of my kids found out online before mail.

DD was accepted to both of her choices, she only applied to 2 schools. Neither was a stretch, but I am so glad that part is over! The school I like most gave her a small merit scholarship, so that is nice. We are still waiting to hear back from both schools regarding her financial aid package. That will have some sway as well, but either school will be fine with us. They are both great choices for her.

I am sorry for those still waiting to hear, it is very stressful!

We just received the financial letter from my DD 2nd choice and she was offered a free ride including housing and meals. So it will not cost us anything at least for the first year. That is definitely in the running !!

Congrats on the full ride! It is such a gift. DS 20 also received a full ride. With four kids, we were so incredibly thrilled. He's a junior now and we are so thankful he took that offer. He's doing great and will come out of college with zero debt. He actually makes money on his scholarship since they give him $800.00 for books, he rents on Amazon and gets to keep whatever he doesn't spend. He now lives in an apartment which is cheaper than what the dorms and cooks for himself, also allowing him to keep more of the scholarship money. All we've had to pay in was $50.00 his freshman year for an honors colloquium that the scholarship didn't cover.

Now DD18 is heading to college in the fall and is a very good student but will not receive a full ride-the reality of paying for college hits home!

We might be asking you for some tips we have a lot to learn.
