DS is anxiously awaiting the next round of acceptances. He applied to 11 schools (many with waived admissions fees). In December he was notified that he got into all four schools that he applied to early action- all with merit money. Less than stellar financial aid packages that have us contributing well over the FAFSA EFC.
Financial aid is important to us- DH is now working a second job to help cover costs. DS and I did a quick trip to one of the schools for an interview as the admission counselor contacted us about wanting to advocate for DS for the honors program/top merit scholarship and requested the interview- it went extremely well so looking forward to hearing back from that school, but I anticipate there will be rejections in the next round. DS' top school will meet 100% of need but it is a reach. I have reminded him to keep his grades high as if he lands on the waitlist for that school, he can submit his third quarter grades. April will be brutal as we travel to accepted students days and DS, who does not have an easy time making decisions, has to choose his school. There are school I'm pretty sure he won't go to, but he's not ready to take them off the list at this point.
No prom for DS- his school does a Junior Prom and he went last year. However, DD, a sophomore, has been invited to the Junior Prom. She is very artistic and is going with a group of artsy kids. She is planning to design her dress and have a good friend make it. Her friend is already making a bunch of dresses for other kids and has a nice side business going. DD's plan for her own Junior Prom next year is to design another dress, have this friend make it, and then DD will hand paint it. Could be spectacularly gorgeous if they can pull it off and possibly would be considered as part of her art portfolio.
DS has ordered his cap and gown. Graduation will be here before we know it.
