High heels are killing me...HELP!

I have a very hard time finding shoes that fit because I wear such a large size. I have to wear dress shoes at my job, and I can't even find flats that fit (I wear 11 1/2 now thanks to a fractured foot last year). I have a few pairs of heels but they are killing the balls of my feet and my toes. In fact, I have a very boney lump on the top of my right big toe now (it's not a corn and I don't believe it's a bunion). I tried those gel things, but they only go up to a size 10 in women's shoes. I've got blisters on the sides of my feet now as well.

Help! I'm dying here. At the end of the day, I wear flip flops home in the car and for the rest of the night my feet are tingling and sore.

I have pain also with heals because I do have a bunion that was caused by an injury.

Anyway, I now have to buy a shoe that is wider in the toe box (not more fashionable heels for me) and I can't really go much over a 2 inch heel because of the pressure the angle puts on the front of my foot. It has gotten very difficult for me to find shoes that do not hurt me, but I can. For summer, I've found heeled sandal where the upper portion of the shoe is a stretchy, strappy material so there are no pressure points on my foot. The material of the upper shoe MUST be soft and have some give or my foot just SCREAMS. As for pumps, usually anything in the Aerosole line works for me.

Have you considered buying the gel inserts for men's shoes?

I'm with you on the balls of the foot thing. I can only wear dress shoes that have some springines under the ball of my foot. Have you tried Easy Spirit? Or Aerosoles? I've learned that I simply cannot wear the pointy toe heels that everyone else loves!

They even make special inserts for heels/sandals now. They are two seperate pieces that go in the heel and the ball of the shoes. Very comfy!

::yes:: I was just about to post this. There are ball only inserts. Also ones made especially for high heel shoes.

Becasue I have bad arches, I have to replace the insoles of every pair of shoes I wear with special, extra cushiony sports orthotics (with a supported arch.) It has made such a difference. I take the insoles with me, and put them in the bottom of shoes as I'm buying them in the store. This way, I'm buying shoes that I know have the extra room for the higher insole.

I also buy shoes at night when my feet are swelled up a bit more from walking all day. I've found it can add an extra half size up or added width.

zappos.com

:thumbsup2 amen to that. I may never set foot in a real shoe store after trying zappos for a wedding. The sizes go up pretty high because I too have big feet and heel requirements after breaking my ankle 10 yrs ago. Service is great and shipping is free. Return policy is awesome.
