High Back Booster for Airplane/Rental Car?

Many Britax models go up to 65 or even 80 lbs with the 5 point harness. The Graco Nautilus goes up to 65 with the 5 point harness and thn u can use it as a booster to 100 lbs. My almost 10 yr old daughter is only 45" and weighs 38.5 lbs so I have her in a carseat still NOT a booster cause of how she fits in those.

Yeah, I love our Britax car seat and boosters but I'm trying to find something thinner/lighter for a backup seat/travel seat if possible.

I am starting to rethink if we really need one yet though since she was only 34 lbs in March. I know she's grow almost 2 inches but I don't know how much she's gained weight-wise yet. I'm hoping maybe I'm worrying too soon :)

The Scenera is a good travel seat as well, but she may have outgrown it by height. There are 3 ways to outgrow a FFing seat. If you say yes to any one, she's outgrown it.

1. She hits the weight limit.
2. Her shoulders are over the highest harness slot.
3. Her ears are over the top of the shell of the seat.

The height limit on car seats is simply a guideline, not a hard and fast rule like weight is. It's impossible to say that every child at say 42" has outgrown a seat because it all depends on torso height (seated height from bum to shoulder). I would say most kids outgrow most carseats by height, not weight.

Thank you for sharing this. I wasn't sure what I should be looking at height wise. She is going with my mom today so I'll take a look how she fits in that seat as of right now and see how close to those she is. Our trip is less than 3 months out. She is about 39 inches right now but I will check on the shoulders and ears.

DSalmost3 is in a Marathon right now and it's heavy and wide but we've used it on a plane. And will again in October. We are getting ready to buy another convertible and will likely get a Radian 100. I don't really see the need for a bigger weight limit on the Radian since I have little boys. My big boy isn't even 30 lbs yet, so he's still RFing in our car. He'll be in a harness until he's in college if he grows at this snail's pace forever. I don't expect DS#2 to be much different. The Radian is heavier, but much thinner and it's more expensive but also converts to a high back booster once we need it to, so I don't mind spending that extra money... it'll save us in the long run.

I checked how she was in the Scenera this morning and it is getting close. I think I might get this December's trip out of it but definitely not next year!

1. She is not at the weight limit.
2. Her shoulders just about at the highest harness slot.
3. Her ears are no where near the top of the shell of the seat.

I just looked up the Radian to see what it was and saw this one!
