Hiding ducks and other things?

Why do people think they need to "plus" the DCL experience by hiding things for other passengers to find? I think Disney does a pretty good job on their own. Oh and you kids get off of my front lawn! Rant off.

Umm.... because they can?

Because "it's fun"?

And "it's my cruise, I can do what I want to make it more enjoyable"?

And, no, I'm not in favor of such things.

I’m kind of with you. I don’t get it or the fish extenders but to each his own. I will say that the day I am inconvenienced for a suspicious package onboard that turns out to be someone enhancing the magic in some way, I will be fairly irritated. But for now if people want to spend time, money, and effort to stress out over small gifts, whatever.

Is this a joke? We encountered the hidden ducks for the first time on our most recent cruise and thought it was fun and cute. No problem if others disagree, but sorry if I can’t see how something this minor and easily ignored could bother anyone.

Mostly it has to do with such random items just being "left lying around". Typically Disney doesn't allow such things on their properties. It can mean extra "cleaning" for the CMs onboard, since those items are not actually part of the Disney themeing onboard.

I've also read that sometimes kids pick up the ducks onboard ships and "release" them, adding to the trash in the ocean when they toss them overboard.

My parents just had this on a celebrity cruise. I don’t think its exclusive to DCL (maybe it started there- idk). I think its cute and pretty harmless.

How fun would the Halloween ones if on a Halloween themed DCL cruise. Even if you passed them to kids dressed up cute and said “Happy Halloween, love The costume” while giving it to them and kept walking. Fun stuff!!

On a Disney Cruise, crew members are allowed to take part in finding ducks. They can also hide them for others to find on their free time. The few that I've spoken to have said that they love it.

I haven't really heard of the ducks, other than I remember seeing a post here a while back about it. I don't do Facebook and I only add people that I really know to my Instagram, so that must be why I don't know about it.

I've never done fish extenders but hiding ducks actually sounds like fun. I know a lot of people who paint rocks and hide them throughout my city. It sounds like that to me.

Our DD got into the duck thing on our Fantasy cruise last week. I do not know what was going on with it but she seemed to like finding them.

Some people just like spreading joy...and others will never understand that! LOL

Last DCL I put on a bunch of glow rings and handed them out to kids in line waiting to meet characters. Parents all understood where I was going with it and gave me an approval nod.
Yes, I've done that myself. But, handing out items directly to people is different than hiding things (in places that aren't yours) and hoping someone will find it.

My last few FB meet groups had mentioned doing this so I have heard of it. I guess as long as DCL is OK with it could be fun for guests.

I'm just surprised that DCL is (or appears to be) OK with it. I know you can't hide things around their theme parks for others to find. If some random thing shows up (usually hidden) somewhere around those properties, they are removed.
