Has anyone looked for and found the hidden paint brushes recently? We usually look for them, but they weren't hiding them when we were there last Easter break.

TIA for any help!:goodvibes

I don't know how accurate this is, but I just booked a vacation throught the official Disney phone number last week and the woman went on and on about finding the paintbrushes. My son found one on our last trip, but that was Feb 2007.

We looked on our trip last October. It was our last full day at MK and thought it would be a good day for FP's. We got to TSI just about 10:00, maybe 5 mins after.

No lie we saw one woman holding no less then 6 paintbrushes! Talk about greed. There were all these little kids looking for them and for some reason, the lady in question felt that she deserved to take the majority of them for herself and her group. I just thought it was rude, greedy and very un-disney-like. We just left the island when we saw that. I just don't get some people.

we looked last week and didn't find them anyplace. What do they look like anyway, and what do you get for finding them?

Usually CM's restrict guests to ONE paintbrush (FP) per person. You can't find them for your whole party and expect to get FP's.

Depending on how busy the park is, it grants you ONE fastpass to either Splash, or BTM.

We've found them on several trips, and it has always given us a fastpass for our group, (four people,) for one ride on either Splash or BTMR, good untill park closing that day. When we looked last Easter, we caught the first boat out and searched high and low. One CM told us that sometimes they don't hide them, and a CM collecting trash on the island laughed at everyone who was searching. She said, "You'll never find one.":confused3 (It was kind of mean, really.) We looked for a while more and then just left. We heard later that no one found any that morning.

Also, when we have seen people take more than one, a cm has always told them that only one brush can be redeemed per group. We've seen this happen many times!

I guess we'll have to feel out the vibe of the cm who loads the first boat and see whether or not it's worth doing.

The FP you get (if they offer any that day) will be valid for your ENTIRE FAMILY.

same when we went. My ds was frantically searching (along with many other kids) for one. There was one family who split up at went in all directions. we saw the mom coming across one of the bridges with 5 in her hand. my ds started crying and said it was unfair and that she should leave some for someone else. she just looked straight down her nose at him, raised her eyebrows and walked past him.:sad2: i wasn't expecting her to give one to him - but it was her attitude towards him .
Anyway, we decided that the brushes had all gone and decided to just take a bit of time to explore and enjoy the island. on our way back to the dock, we saw a brush next to a bush, and another just across from that. they weren't exactly what i would call 'hidden'. they were also definately two of the brushes this woman had (reconised the colors). I'm guessing that she was either told to put them back or they were put back by the cm.
my husband took both and said 'lets give one to another family (with kids)', i said that i thought it was more 'magical' to leave one for someone to find for themself. He seemed to think he knew best:rolleyes1 so we shared the magic by giving one to someone else:goodvibes

That's pathetic. :sad2:

Yup.

Your instincts get the points on this one.

ok I'm missing something here...what's the story about the hidden paint brushes?

In one of the most celebrated of Mark Twain's books, Tom Sawyer tricked his friends into whitewashing (painting) his Aunt Polly's picket fence so he wouldn't have to do it.

In homage to this tale, the CM's of Tom Sawyer Island place brushes around the location for guests to "discover."

OK, that's VERY cool. Magical, even. I love Disney. Shame about all the other people.

We tried to do this on our trip last week. I specifically asked the cm on the boat ride over if all the brushes had been found and he said no but he did say that many of them had gone "missing" ie people were taking them. Meaning taking them and keeping them or they would take them to city hall instead of giving them to the cast members or whatever. We searched EVERYWHERE on that island and we figured the certainly wouldn't have been THAT hard to find. I mean we searched every nook and crany of the caves, in the windmill, the fort you name it. I seriously doubt there was one left on that island. In fact my dh even found a hidden treasure that a family had left for ANOTHER family back in 2003 LOL. It was hidden in the windmill and had a note that said if found please leave for X family. Obviously THEY didn't even find it since it was dated 03 LOL but he even found THAT but NO paintbrushes. We just wanted to find one to find one and we spent almost 2 hours looking but nothing.

I agree it is really lame for someone to take more than one. But there is always some selfish person that has to spoil it. :(

I've never heard of this. Is this fairly new or just a little know fact?

When we were there in Sept, I asked the CM if there were any paint brushes hidden. He said only 1, that the others had gone missing. It was my DS's birthday and he had on his birthday button, so the CM gave him a hint as to where to find it....just the general direction. Well, he found it (after 3 yrs of trying) and the CM gave him a fast pass for any ride in MK. He also gave him a coupon for free popcorn and drink. I know for sure the snack was a birthday gift, as he stated so. Not sure if the fastpass for any ride was also because of his birthday, or something they do all the time. Oh, and it's just a fastpass good for 1 use and 1 ride.

Yeesh, people like that woman are pathetic. I think the fun would be in simply finding the paintbrush. Granted I live close to WDW so the FP wouldn't be a big thing for me (I can go ride whenever I want during the offseason), but even if I frantically wanted one for some reason, why would I need to take EVERY brush?

I haven't done a brush search yet, but I will one of these days, and if I find one I will either leave it for give a nearby kid a "hint."
