HI SunSpree Renovations

Hello, need some help. I have heard alot of bad things about SunSpree. I called 4 times to ask about the rooms. They stated renovations were completed in Feb 2003. New carpet, beds, paint, everything new. Has anyone visited in the last year. Are they being up front with me. So if i arrive in Oct. and the rooms are not renovated is there anything i can do. Thanks for your input.

I am one who was disappointed with the Sunspree, however when I looked at the pictures on their website, the rooms do appear to have different bedspreads and furniture than they had in 2001. They were painting the outside when we were there, so it's entirely possible that now renovations are complete and it's a nicer place. Personally I won't be back to check them out on our trip next year, but it may very well be great now. Among our complaints was the overall "old" musty feelling of the hotel, and a huge gap under our door. Which I admit we didn't mention to staff just rolled up a towel and placed it there. I wouldn't get too worried about it, even prior to any renovations it wasn't a "ruined vacation" type of disappointment it was just not what we would choosen given a choice.

We stayed at HI Sunspree in Sept of 02, no renoventions were underway when we were there. I agree with the prior post about the musty feeling. We stayed with another family in adjoining rooms. We had a jr suite, that is kids bunks were separated from king size bed by a 3/4 wall not separate rooms, it was ok. I did this through a package and the price was great, but I caught flack from the wife saying look spend a little more and get something nicer like HIFS. So my overall opinion would be to pass, but if on a budget and you get a good deal, then do it. I guess the important issue is how much are really going to be in the room? If you have small children like I do, then you may want a suite for privacy and letting kids sleep early, if you on the go and will sleep at hotel then this is not that bad. Hope this helps.
