OOPS on another note, I was wondering how many of us were interested in going to the Magic Meet held in Harrisburg this summer. This year it's on July 19th. You can get more info at www.magicmeets.com I was thinking that if there is enough of us, we could all sit together and say HI.

I plan on going. I was just over at Fred's site seeing if registration was open yet. I wanted to go last year and the registration closed very fast. Do you plan on going. I was hoping that a couple people from this thread would be able to go. The big question is if I want to stay over night since I am only an hour and a half away.

have you ever gone to the pottsville cruise, I cruised my Mickeymobile there a few years...

I actually haven't ever gone to the pottsville cruise even though its like 5 min from me its always SOOO crowed so we've skipped it maybe when the kids are a little older. dd#1 was born in dauphin co, down at hershey medical center the other 2 were born in pottsville

I've never done a dismeet I've only been on here for a little over a year.

I have volunteered at the DisMeet for the last few years. I normally work the kid's pin room with my two nephews. I hope to meet some of you there this summer.

Hi Mickey88 - my family is from the Erdman, Gratz & Lykens areas of Dauphin County, plus lots more just east in Schuykill & just north in Northumberland. I grew up in the Lehigh Valley but spent every weekend & summers up that way!

I would love to host a local DisMeet, I just figured no one would want to come east this far. We did have a small DisMeet - 3 of us from the thread - in Disney on 11/29. And 3 or 4 of you have come to visit me at work to say hi - that was neat!

I go to the gratz auction all the time! I lived in Hegins for about 3 years (the most boring years of my life! Sorry to anyone who lives there!)

OMG I used to go every Fiday night when I was staying with my grandparents! They went religiously every Friday, that was the social event of the week. I still crave a fish sandwich on white bread from that Amish place at the auction. The last time I went was when I was pregnant with my oldest DS who is almost 11! My Lord my parents lived in Hegins in the 60's, and I know many many people there. What years did you live there?

1999-2004 so it was a little over 4 years I guess I dont know many people from down there at all! They weren't too friendly to "outsiders" at least the younger people! All our older neighbors were VERY nice, but anyone our age really didn't want anything to do with us! It was too expensive to live down there anyway! So we moved closer to "home". Thinking about it now I really need to get out tomorrow maybe we'll take a ride down there tomorrow! We usually dont buy much just go for alot of snacking on yummy foods! Pizza, donuts, pretzles, candy, fries, ya know a healthy dinner!

If you go have an Amish fish sandwich for me - and some fries with vinegar (fish sammich & fries wit winegar as the old Dutchies say).

Oh I wouldn't want you to have to take time off of work. We can plan it for spring on a weekend, or if there are any holiday weekdays that you're off of work.

Yeah I started "visiting" the area in about 1997 (I was about 18) to see dh there is exciting news in hegins they are getting a dollar store
I can swear to you they had ONE store down there ONE, Nothing was open past 9pm NOTHING if ya needed milk good luck it was a 20 minute drive to the nearest open store! 4 years of that was MORE than enough from me! It is a VERY pretty area to visit get some good road side veggies.. but to live.. uh no thanks! Where about's did your parents live? I lived on east main street down past elsies the little resturant near the libary if that helps!

ROFL yup that's Hegins alright! The rest of my family is from over the mountain in Pitman & Leck Kill in Schuykill County (no one has ever heard of Pitman or Leck Kill), and northwest of Hegins in Greenbriar, near Klingerstown & Rebuck. Again, not many people have heard of those places either. My cousin coaches wrestling for Tri Valley, and another cousin owns Masser Potatoes. Small world.

I can't believe they're getting a Dollar Store. I thought every store there was a Dollar Store! Midway's going to have some competition now! My parents actually lived on Main St in Valley View I think, not Hegins. You know, Valley View, that really hopping town 100 yards from Hegins! By the old movie theater but you're way too young to remember that. I know where Elsie's is, that was my grandmother's name, so I always recognized it.

I've heard of pitman! I was also in a major accident in Good Spring! the Dollar Store is actually going in NEXT to midway! And my best friends ex husband he use to be a cop in hegins until his ummm insurance problems we'll leave it at that. His last name is Tietsworth.

The name desn't ring a bell. Yes I know where Good Spring is, it's just south of Hegins, right? Not too familiar with it though. Ok I think we've hijaked the thread tonight. Everyone is quiet. They either have no clue the area we're talking about or they DO know the area & don't want to admit it! That whole area is completely different from the Lehigh Valley. I was considered the "cool city cousin" and I grew up on a small rural farm down this way, about 10 miles west of Allentown. All they ever heard of was Allentown....oooo must be the big city of Allentown...that's where Tara is from....such a city clicker she is....I never actually lived in Allentown but that's how they saw it. Too funny! I was just up that way on 12/30, the entire family still gets together as much as we can.
