Even though we are staying at the Poly next year I want to go to FW and dome tent again for Spring Break in 2003. I only get youngest DS every other year for Spring Break. The weather is wonderful then. Anyway, I still check in here. Has anyone here ever tried using a bed frame to raise the air matttress off the ground? I was thinking of trying that. I was thinking it might work if I laid boards across the inside of the bed frame for support. Does this sound too crazy?

I just tried my queen size bed frame idea and it works! I only used 2 slates for support inside the frame but I think to be on the safe side I will add a couple more. It feels very sturdy and will not move around or tip over! The best thing about this idea is I can take a frame that I already have and I don't have to go out and buy anything! (Being the cheap person that I am ;) ) Maybe we will get back before Spring Break 2003!

tuffcookie, I saw an inflatable mattress withit's own frame at K-MArt last month. I think it was about $70. It sitis 28 inches off the floor. Just right for these old bones. have to get it for our next tent trip. Check it out, it sits on a frame like the new camp chairs that fold to the middle(I hope that makes sense). enjoyed your trip reports and your pictures. Hope you don't have to wait till 2003 to return, there are other great tiems of the year too. KQ

Hi! Where've you been lately? :-)

We bought two camping cots, tied them together, and put the queen-size air mattress on top of them! It worked great! Got us off the ground, and gave us extra storage space in the tent (under the bed)!

Great. I knew somebody here would have some good ideas about the air mattress! I'll check out K-Mart and Dick's Sporting Goods to see if theye have one of those mattresses on a frame. And I never thought of the double cot idea. Thanks!!! TC

I saw those air mattresses at Kmart as well and wondered what kept them from puncturing. Has anyone actually used them? I thought of getting one for home when visitors come.

Rhonda,

Tell me more about this cot system. We love to tent camp but I'm getting to old to sleep on the ground...or at least that's been my latest excuse. LOL What kind of cots did you buy?

We bought camping cots from K-Mart (or Walmart) and tied them together with bungie straps. (I think we paid around $30 apiece for them) Then we blew up the air mattress and laid it over them! It worked really good! It's like a regular bed! We don't use sleeping bags, we just made it up like our bed at home with sheets & blankets.
:)
