We are planning to go when we fly over on Oct 8th and was wondering as it will be our 1st time, do the houses lead to rides and if so what rides will be open as we went to universal in spain and it was halloween time and they had mazes leading to the rides with scare factor ratings on each one. Also whats the best day to go whan its at its most quieter.

No...the houses do not lead to the rides. All of the houses are separate from the attractions but there are attractions open during HHN. Those include: The Simpsons, MIB, Jaws and Revenge of the Mummy. If you want the shortest lines during the day, go either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Get there early or if possible go to the parks in the day and go in the Stay and Scream area where they let you do some of the houses before they open the gates to the general public.Avoid going on a Friday or Saturday as the lines for the houses will be close to 2 hrs long and you'll end up having to spend $60+ on the Universal express pass.
