HHI questions

My point was to try and answer this person's questions by trying to keep this thread on topic and some people seem to want to argue. You seem to want to contribute to that. I personally feel for the op who asked a simple question only to have the discussion go way off track. Why not try to be helpful instead of arguementative? Just answer the question and compare the resorts to WDW DVC not compare other HHI properties. The op was trying to put it in reference to something they know; the WDW resorts not a critique of HHI resorts.

People come to these boards for advice why not give it and be helpful? The op didn't ask a question that should have led to a couple of the posts on this thread.:sad2:
My point was that comparing DVC HH to other options (WDW or HH) was the exact point of the OP as stated, they did ask for any other information. In this case there is simply negative truthful info in comparison. If that's not helpful in your eyes or being argumentative, then we disagree. Personally I'd rather be truthful than upbeat when the situation calls for it as it does in this case IMO.

In terms of comparison to other DVC resorts.

HHI 's 2 Bedroom is the best DVC accomodation in my opinion. It is as large as the OKW ones with a slightly better layout. The 2nd Bedroom is off the entry way and is a little more private than right off the main room. It has a huge Rectangular Balcony with a nice size picnic table.

I agree that to some a beach locale is better, I hate the beach and the sand so it does not matter to me , we love the marsh locale especially the marsh views.

We go for a week in late spring , pack our groceries with us and never leave the resort for the most relaxing family vacation imaginable. My Kids do the activites , Swim , Bike ride , enjoy the campfire , play shuffleboard and go on nature walks.

Count me in as loving DVC HHI resort!! We just returned from our first stay there. We knew it wasn't on the beach. We knew it was on an island with the marsh surrounding it. I think Disney did a great job with this resort. In addition to being in a very nice and peaceful spot, they built a beach house so their guests can enjoy the beach. Only 1 mile away. Very Convenient if you ask me. So if you have one car and one wants to go golf and one wants to go to the beach...I suggest Carol A, you take the shuttle bus to the beach and the other can take the car to wherever they want to go.
Some of you say they would love for DVC HH to be on the beach. I wish all the hotels I stayed at in my lifetime were on the beach!! They're not all made to be on the beach, get over it!!
I don't mean to be rude at all...just sticking up for DVC HH fans:thumbsup2

We love HHI DVC and I understand what folks say when they post that they love being on the marsh. But I really wonder how many really mean it. If you could pick up the DVC resort and just move it a mile towards the ocean, wouldn't you be more happier with it? I know when we toured Vero Beach a couple of years back I kept thinking, I'd give anything if the Vero Beach resort was on HHI. There is just something about being within an easy walk of the beach. I understand why DVC couldn't have located the resort on the beach - the cost of land would have made the points sky high, even if that amount of land could have been purchased. We just have to be satisfied with what we have, but there have been many times I wish we were right on the beach.

Nope, I don't even go to the beach every time we go to HH. A whole week and no beach time. I don't really love it:sandy, windy, shark phobia on my part. Eh
Give me a pool any day!

I loooooove the resort, it reminds me of all my summer vacations up in NY's Adirondack Mountains when I was a kid-I think it's the scent of the carpet of pine needles that's all over the resort.
Like someone else said it's more of a camping(without having to deal with tents and no beds-because I don't do that LOL)/family oriented vacation than a beach vacation.
If I want to go to the beach, I'll go down the shore here at home for a day or two, HHI is all about the resort itself for us.

That said, I don;t see why it matters of someone else doesn't liek it.
There are plenty of places I hate that other people love. People have different needs and tastes. No need to take it personally.

In many threads here on the DIS and other forums, it's not so much the opinion itself as the way it is presented that makes people go on the attack and/or on the defense.

This thread was one of those. :headache:

My apologies to the OP; It makes me feel sad that you requested the thread be closed and that I contributed to the unpleasantness. :guilty: You're relatively new to the DIS and I hope you won't be afraid to to ask more questions in the future. :grouphug:

And to the person who was asking about pictures of the Hilton Head resort, there are lots of them, if you do a search; this recent one was one of the best, IMHO: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1788767.

This is the OP again, thanks for the apology. I'm not upset in the least.

I love the dis and will continue to ask questions. I have gotten so much help from here it would take a lot to drive me away. I even appreciate the people who don't love everything about Disney and give their honest answers. I just wish we could read a person's tone. I think a lot of people (myself included) get offended on certain threads because we read things assuming an attitude that was never intended. Know what I mean?

Effective communication is so vital in alll that we do, yet so often, poorly executed.

I come here looking for facts, for answers to questions. I do not want "you" (any poster) trying to convince me that your opinion is the only one or worse, the right one. Provide the facts and I'll decide what's right for me.

Fact, It's 1 mile to the beach
Opinion: Beach is not close enough to walk to

While this post is still open I'll throw in my 2 cents.....

CarolA usually has some great info. I for one like the fact that this board gives people the freedom to voice their opinions. Otherwise, all of our DVC knowledge would be the generic (and sometimes not quite accurate) stuff that the official DVC guides tell people. I'll take everyone's opionion, sometimes with a grain a salt and sometimes in total agreement.

Disneyaoholic: HEY, CONGRATS on finding a place at Shelter Cove!! Welcome Home....all the time now!!!

I've spent many a summers in a beach house on the SC coast. Sand and sun. Pretty, but a little boring after a while with little ones. We use our DVC points to stay at the HH DVC and do all the activities while there. The CM's are fabulous.

No one will ever (at least, not more than once) WALK a MILE to the beach in the heat of summer at Hilton Head. 10 steps in that humid sauna will have the sweat pouring off your body. Throw in a load of beach chairs, sand toys, and a toddler that needs to get carried because he or she is tired and you will think you lost your mind. Trust me on this one. If you need to get to the beach, drive a car, take a shuttle or stay at a beachfront resort.

One more aside to CarolA: I remember you had a bad stay at the Marriott in Harbour Town last year. Hopefully your DVC experience was better than that! :)

Love is what makes the DIS go 'round!!!

Love is what makes the DIS go 'round!!!

This brings up two points for me - one is that I will TOTALLY AGREE about the one mile walk concept. While I often let people know - because I've read it in other posts - that it's a one mile walk or bike ride, in real life there is NO WAY I would ever consider doing it!!!! No sirree, baby, this girl is driving her own car over to the beachhouse!!!!! Not only do I not like to be on someone else's time table, I don't even like the walk from my villa to the bus stop.

Of course that means getting an early start - most of the parking lot is full by 10am on a very busy summer day.

The other point has to do with beach chairs and umbrellas. One of the most heated arguments I ever had on the DIS was about whether it was better to bring your own or rent. He just could not understand why I would say to rent when it was so much cheaper to bring your own, and I was (an am) of the firm opinion that paying to rent beach chairs and umbrellas and having someone set them up for you and not having to lug them over and back is one of the joys of a Hilton Head vacation to me!!!

Again, to each her own - I will rent them as long as they will take the money from me and be happy to do it - others will always have their own and feel just as happy for the bring your own option. Different strokes!!

Thanks for your candid info!:goodvibes I love reading realistic opinions, and this was one of my questions, just how doable is the beach. I am more interested in the resort for its natured theming, and while I would frequent the beach, its not my sole purpose for going. I really am looking forward to trying this resort out in fall Nov. 2009 (November). Its interesting that it is sold out for Thanksgiving!:wizard:

The beach is absolutely "doable" and meets all of my requirements - a chair and umbrella available for rent that is already set up for me, easy walking distance to a bathroom, and equally easy walking distance to a snack bar, with food that can be transported and eaten on the beach if I want (although it is a pleasure to go up to the Beach House and eat in the AC at the Snack Bar!!!)

I just always like to have my own transportation - and at HH the optimal situation is to get there early enough to park in the underground lot - much cooler to come back to than the upper lot that has been baking in the sun all day!!! Either way, though, it's easy. And actually, the shuttle is perfectly fine, too, if I don't want to get such an early start. You do have to walk down to the entrance, and sometimes wait for a shuttle a little while, but it drops you off right at the gate. The only issue with the shuttle is making sure you get the last one back and I think they stop running pretty early - about 5pm or so.
