^Wow!!

Our Villa earlier this month had a coffee maker that needed cone filters, not the basket type. Is that the case in every villa at HH?

Cone filters? In our 18 stays at HHI, we've always had basket filters. Usually I bring some from home, but DH likes to buy them at Kroger as part of our first day stock-up. However, last time we went, Kroger was all out of the inexpensive ones.

No. Most rooms still have the basket filter type coffee makers (Mr. Coffee); however, of late, the replacement coffee makers--you'd be surprised how often coffee makers have to be switched out--are the Cuisinart STAY brand and they have conical baskets. Going forward, I don't know that these new coffee makers will become the norm. Generally speaking, the least expensive coffee maker that is available at the time of order is what they purchase, so there is no guarantee that the Cuisinart version will replace all the others. I do hope that is the case as the Mr Coffee brand has black and white styles, some with short, squat carafes and others with taller ones. So, we wind up with a menagerie of styles and colors when attempting to replace just the coffee maker or just the carafe which breaks easily. The Cuisinarts are all black and the same size. Of course, that means if a carafe is broken, then we'll likely have to replace the entire machine...and that might be with one of the black Mr. Coffees and a white carafe! pirate:

My DH is going to be so happy! He's missed the cookies in the lobby and asks every time I check in if they've brought the cookies back. Thanks, Sleepy!!
Then, he should be pleased. Please note that I've updated the hours of operation in the original post, and those are always subject to change without notice. Currently, it's available from 0600-1000 and 1400-1800. The cookie situation is limited to what can be found that is individually wrapped and not expensive.

Does Disney do anything special for New Year's Eve at the resort?
Not particularly other than a few pool or recreational activities. I think they might add a menu item or two for the holidays. Also, currently, TMO cast members host a Longview Lounge every other weekend or so where they serve a few alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for a fee. No food.

Is decaf coffee available in the new set up? Are creamers there?

Yes, that’s what we had, a Cuisinart coffee pot. i will bring a supply of both kinds of filters, just in case for my trip next month.

Currently, there are no decaf pods for the coffee bar--there is creamer and sugar, though. Nothing prevents you from bringing your own decaf Keurig-style pods, either. ;)

Mask policy change as of 2/17 at WDW...
I think DHHIR follows WDW policies.
As a general rule, yes. pirate:

I failed to mention this earlier, but two new picnic tables have been added to the deck just outside the ordering window at Tide Me Over.

Hello, all! We are considering heading to Hilton Head in mid-March. I have an 18-year-old, 14-year-old, and 3-year-old. Since it may not be swimming weather, is there enough to occupy them for a week here?

We just returned from HHI. I admit we had a couple of exceptionally warm days (mid-high 70s), and there were adults and children in the Beach House pool (which I assume is heated).

I do not own at Hilton Head, but I needed to use or lose points and could not get into our home location at Vero. This was our 2nd time at Hilton Head. I don't want to start a bad vibe, but honestly how do y'all sit on that awful sofa and chair in the living room? Oh gosh my backache!!! Obviously I'm talking the one and two bedroom villas. I had to sit on the kitchen chairs or, if warm enough, out on the patio. I heard they were refurbishing soon, but from what I saw, that should have been done 5 years ago. That being said, I do love the resort and we'll probably go back again and again (after the refurbishment!!). Despite the age, it was really clean, housekeeping was exceptional and the cast members wonderful. Beautiful view of the marsh. Good times there!

I totally agree about that sofa and chair. Even though we're huge DHHIR fans, those 2 items are HORRIBLE! When DH heard that there was going to be a refurbishment, the first thing he said was "I hope they get rid of the sofa and chair. They're awful." Interestingly, however, when I was at BCV in January, the sofa cushions there kept sliding forward also.I'm wondering if there's any relationship between being a sofa bed and slide-y cushions. Come to think of it, probably not-we have the same brand of sofa bed, supposedly, yet our cushions are fine.

My short answer is "yes." The longer answer is "depends." If the weather is decent (pretty good chance of that), then there is biking all over the island on dedicated bike trails including to the Beach House. There are yard games scattered around the resort: bocci ball, giant checkers, horseshoes x 2, corn hole, basketball, and a putting green. In Murggie's Den, there is a pool table, and there is a second one over at the Beach House along with a second corn hole game, foosball table, and ping-pong table. Moreover, there is crabbing or fishing from the pier (no license needed), activities such as tie-dye t-shirts, guided nature walks, swimming at two pools (yes, both the main pool and the Beach House pool are heated), hot tub, hammocks, and a general sense of being able to let your older kids have free rein of the resort since it's small and somewhat isolated. The 3-year old can play in the playground located between Bldgs 22 and 24.

The island itself has lots of activities from mini-golf, to fishing charters, to kayaking/paddle boarding. The last two can be booked and depart from Shelter Cove which means you can walk to them. Obviously, there is the beach, though in March the water will likely be too chilly to stay in long. There are also lots of shops and cool places to eat. All in all, most who visit HHI are surprised at how much fun it is to just relax, kick back, and revel in the low country vibe.

 Yes...yes, they are terrible. Bad enough to base a Saturday Night Live skit on them! Some are worse than others, but even the best are only passable. The refurbishment at DHHIR was to have been completed in 2020 but got pushed to 2021, and then that was pushed into 2022. Two test rooms have been done--a 1BR and a studio, and the big couch is going away. There will still be a smaller, pullout loveseat of unknown quality, however. At least it will be new! The total resort refurbishment is supposed to start in earnest this year, though I suspect that won't happen until after Labor Day.

Oh my, I just shared this with my friend who picked the chair as her sleep spot. I hope we get one that’s acceptable! :o

For sleeping, the chair in the living room is very comfortable. It's just when it's made up as a chair again, the cushion you sit on slides not so slowly out so the next thing you know you're on the floor. If you try to brace yourself when you sit so that you don't slide, I think that's what causes back issues and/or leg issues.

Good point! The beds in the couch and love seat are decent, I believe. It's the cushions staying in place as you try to sit on them that are the issue for some. :thumbsup2

It would be nice if they installed the Murphy Beds they've used in Riviera and some other resorts.. Those are comfy beds and the sofa portion is nice and firm!

As has been reported on other sites, the mask policy at DHHIR is following that of WDW. No masks need be worn indoors UNLESS YOU'VE NOT BEEN VACCINATED. If you've not, Disney requires you to do so. Obviously, this whole policy depends on the honesty of the guests. The lone exception is on the shuttle which still requires masks. Further, the ping-pong table at the pool--near the recreation window--has returned. And, if not mentioned before, there are two new picnic tables on the upper deck at Tide Me Over. :thumbsup2
