My DF wants to take a vacation with the whole family--5 siblings, 3 spouses and 8 gradkids. we tried to book dad's home resort BWV at 11 months but could not get enough space for dec 28th thru jan 2, 2009. DF wants to try at 7 months for HHI or another Disney resort. what are the chances of getting HHI in december at 7 months? and more importantly is there plenty to do for 8 kids age 10 to 17 in december? thanks in advance for the info

There is lots to do on HHI but if swimming and laying on the beach are important elements then that part will be disappointing. It can be quite cold in Dec. and even though the pool is heated, its doubtful that it will be warm enough for serious swimming.

The resort offers all kinds of fun activities and our kids have a blast just playing outside. HHI has shopping, restaurants, movie theaters etc. Savannah, GA is very close be and would make an excellent day trip especially b/c it would be dressed up for the Holidays.

HHI would defiantely be fun in Dec. but it would not be a typical beach trip and with so many kids in your group it might be tough to keep them all entertained.

I am not so sure how hard it would be to get the dec. dates that you want. It is one of our home resorts but have never tried for that time period. i think that if you want to be there for NYE then it might be tough to get the dates that you want at 7 months especially if you needa GV or 2.

Good luck!!

We have been over xmas week 4 times to HHI and twice over NYE and day. It is a great resort with alot to do even in dec. The weather has run the gambet from 30 degrees wearing hat and gloves to high 60"s with DS swimming in the heated pool. either way, we love walking the beach. Lots of activities for kids and adults, great reataurants on the island , golf and Savannah is about an hour away. We love it at any season. I have gotten the xmas week at 7 months before we added on in 2002. You have a better choice with 2 bedroom as there are more of those, harder for studio.

I'd like to tell you how horrible it is at that time, because I don't want to risk you taking one of the rare 3-bedroom Grand Villas we get every year for New Years.

The weather at that time is odd. We arrived just before NYE last year and swam the first day. Then a cold front came in and we didn't even risk going to the beach because of the wind. But there still was plenty to do. On NYE they have a party (for a fee) for the kids, then a ball drop at the pool for everyone. There are many other activities to do, but we enjoy it mostly for just spending time together (please, don't take my grand villa) and relaxing.
