Hi

has anyone gone to HH in mid aug? How did you like it? Bugs, , rain?

we have two DSs 4 and 11...will there be enough for them to do ( besides the ocean) ?

We were there the last week of August 2002, it rained nonstop the entire time!! We really did not get a good enough feel for the resort due to the wet weather.

We were there in Aug '01 and it was extremely hot and humid. Several resort activities were cancelled because of the heat. That said, it was great weather for going to the pool and beach! It did rain (poured, really) one night due to the remnants of a tropical storm.

Guess I should read the WHOLE thread before I reply! I think there will be plenty to do for your DD's. Mine are 11 and 6 and absolutely love HH. The activities that were cancelled while we were there were the Pinkney Island hike (no shade) and horseback riding (too hot for the horses). There are all kinds of crafts, crabbing, fishing, kayaking, dolphin cruises, etc.

HH is our 2nd home-away and we have gone there the past three summers in the last week of Aug. First year, we were under hurricane watch for the whole wk & even received special evacuation info. But the storm missed us & amazingly we had great weather- to the beach/pool every day. Tides were rough at beach. The 2nd trip we had great weather throughout and really had a great time, not too hot to enjoy most activities, then again, we don't hike or horsebackride. This past summer was our 3rd trip & was the worst, by far. But it was solely due to the weather. It poured throughout the week, rained every day & we only used the pool twice. Many activities were cancelled, although they tried to replace them w/ inside activities. We have two DSs, who love HH & we are still booked to go same wk. next Aug., but last summer was a real eye-opener on how really bad weather hurts a great resort experience. We were really grateful to have a 2BD & couldn't imagine a wk like that in a hotel rm. Funny aside, as oldest DS enters his late teens, he is less inclined to join most resort activities & we struggle to keep him from hanging out w/ his laptop in the room during vacations. He said last Aug. was fine-just his kind of vacation because hanging w/ the laptop was one of the prime things to do.LOL

That is the height of hurricane season here as it is in Florida also, June-November. Our weather forecast from June through September is 50% chance of rain every afternoon. Usually nice in the morning, 72 up to 95+ in the afternoon. It is humid but we're used to it here, when I go to Vegas it's too dry for me, skin dries, etc... Like a fish out of the water, literally. If it's not raining, afternoon activities should be inside or involve water. If it does rain, it usually stops quickly and the sun come out and dries it up so you don't even know it rained other than the evaporation makes it more humid. It's pretty much the same as Florida, it's only 2 hrs from SC to FL and on the coast too.
