Yes, meat was considerably more expensive than at home, even on sale, for comparable items. We can get prime or choice meat for the prices being charged for select meat in the HH area. We tried four or five different stores, and they were pretty much all the same. We can almost always get strip steaks, for example, for around $4.99 per pound on sale (select grade) and 7.99 or 8.99 per pound for choice grade. We didn't see anything less than about 9.99 for even select grade steaks in the HH area. The grocery store prices were comparable to what we would pay at a real, cut-to-order, aged beef butcher shop (which we still have several of in our immediate area).
