HH Trip Report (packed with helpful tips?)

Yes, meat was considerably more expensive than at home, even on sale, for comparable items. We can get prime or choice meat for the prices being charged for select meat in the HH area. We tried four or five different stores, and they were pretty much all the same. We can almost always get strip steaks, for example, for around $4.99 per pound on sale (select grade) and 7.99 or 8.99 per pound for choice grade. We didn't see anything less than about 9.99 for even select grade steaks in the HH area. The grocery store prices were comparable to what we would pay at a real, cut-to-order, aged beef butcher shop (which we still have several of in our immediate area).

Wow that much difference, I guess that is due to being close to the market. Now if I could get close to the gas market, :thumbsup2

Yeah, that and eating habits probably. I agree on the gas issue, LOL!

Charleston is too far away and we normally go there with family on MLK weekwend when my parents make their East Coast winter excursion. We always enjoy Hyman's Seafood just north of the market.

.

We like to eat at Hyman's also. Last time we had to sit at Martha Stewart's table!

Sorry that I'm drumming this up from page 3 or whatever page it was on but I haven't had a chance to get back to this to add any more comments (or read what more Doctor P had to post). The restaurant in Charleston was Joe Pasta - it was AWESOME!!!! I like Olive Garden - this place surpassed OG. It was great. I had spaghetti with meatballs and I just can't say enough - the meatballs were just right flavor, the sauce was great.

The one thing about the Giuseppe's is the one good thing was the marinara sauce that came with the mozzarella sticks - that was good marinara sauce.

The Lowcountry Boil - I am not a big fish eater like Doc P said. Generally I will eat shrimp and tolerate it. I was not thrilled with this shrimp. I think it grossed me out some taking the little body of it (with the feet thingys dangling). The flavor just wasn't great to me either. I didn't eat the gumbo because I don't like gumbo. DD said the chicken tenders and mac and cheese was good (for the kids). I'm not a huge cheesecake fan either and so I was disappointed that there wasn't anything else for dessert for people that don't like cheesecake (which was probably a good thing).

DD and I ate salads from Piggly Wiggly another day for lunch - it was a great salad bar. I wish our grocery stores here had those. I really missed it when we got back home - the idea more probably. And dh was right about the meat - it was about 2 times the amount that we can get meat here for. Chicken and pork as well. The nice things at Piggly Wiggly is their produce section was great and pretty reasonably priced. They had round containers of sliced celery and carrots as well as bags of other cut up veggies. That was very convenient. And I found their bagged salad mixes to be better than Food Lion or Publix, which I was surprised. PW also had a really nice wine/alcohol section and their prices were VERY reasonable - I thought. We don't buy wine a lot but I do watch the prices. Wine coolers were about the same price as they are here.

The one good thing that Sea Shack had was GREAT iced tea! The popcorn shrimp was okay - nothing to write home about.
