Has anyone taken the ferry from HH to Savannah? We have always gone by car but were thinking about trying something different this year. Looking for how long a trip and prices, if you know.

Thanks

There isn't really a boat that runs from HH to Savannah that would serve your purposes. This is more of a seasonal thing and it's more of a riverboat ride, than transportation from one place to the other. It's not something that runs each hour, where you could come to Savannah, spend the day, then catch it back to HH. Actually I think right now it only runs from Savannah to Daufuski Island (a private VERY UPSCALE residential island). There is one that runs from HH to Daufuski and back each day (for the people living on Daufuski and working on HH). But people living in Sav. and working in HH would just drive, as it's probably quicker, so the boat doesn't really run that way.

Also, once you got to Savannah, you would really need a car to get around. Depending on how much of the historical district of Savannah you wanted to see, that would be A LOT of walking, miles and miles of walking.

If you have never been to Savannah, and want to come for the day, I would drive here from HH and go to the Visitor's Center on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. From there you can get info and brochures on the city and you can also catch tours from there. You can also catch tours from City Market.

I'm trying to link this -

Hope this helps.

mdtigger99 - I also agree that the car would be the best bet, park at the Visitor's Center and get a tour trolley. You can get on and off at any stop, usually get admission to at least one of the historical houses and a great commentary on the city itself by the driver!! I would live in Savannah in a heartbeat - and if you ever get the chance, you must go to Savannah for the St. Patrick's Day festivities! OMG, what fun we had this year - our third trip to Savannah, but first at St. Pat's - that is a rockin' town, and one of the most beautiful cities i've seen. Enjoy!!! It's a trip well worth making from HH :earsgirl:

Thanks Tommy. I thought there was a ferry going to savannah instead of dinner cruses. I guess I'll stick with driving

There is a boat trip that leaves from Harbor Town and goes to Savannah and then returns in the afternoon. We took the trip at the end of May and it was very nice. You leave about 9 am and the trip takes 1 1/2 hours. They will have the trolley meet you on River street and if you purchase the all day ride option you can use it to not only tour but stop and then get back on. You only get about 4 hours in Savannah with the boat starting back around 3pm so you may want to go back by car and check out the more of the sights.
It is the same boat that does the dinner cruises in the evening, but the one we took did not serve anything but drinks and light snacks.
Hope you enjoy.
