We will be visiting HH for the first time in 2 weeks. I just got a copy of the recent activity schedule and see a Star Spangled Barbeque listed. Has anyone attended this event? Wasn’t sure on the food offered, quality, price, etc.

Burgers, hot dogs, barbeque (ribs, I think) corn, salad, dessert. It is sort of hard to remember, it was almost a year ago. However, one thing I do remember is..get your tickets early. We went at 5:00 when they started serving, and I had to wait in line over 30 minutes to get the tickets. You call for a reservation and get the tickets. Go early, in July it was extremely hot waiting.

Hi! We will be at HHI in July, and was wondering what night this is held on? Also, where is it held? Does it include any activities or is it just a BBQ? I would love to hear some more reviews??? :Pinkbounc

It's on Tuesdays, before the Shelter Cove fireworks. In the past, after everyone is finished eating, but before the fireworks, there have been games, dancing, etc. at the pool. I would imagine that hasn't changed.

I did hear that they have made some changes this year to the food, but I haven't heard exactly what. And there is a new Recreation Manager this year, so maybe the activities are a little different than in the past?

Hopefully someone who has already gone this summer or who will be going soon will fill us in!

We went last year on August 24 to be exact (it was my daugher's 7th birthday). We purchased our tickets early in the day, so we didn't have to wait in line. There was burgers, dogs, corn, fruit, chicken, cornbread, and some other things I can't remember at the moment. Also, lemonade and iced tea. We ate early, and then there were patriotic arts/crafts and face painting. I believe my girls made a necklace out of red/white/blue wooden beads, a sparkly red/white/blue pin to wear, and something else. Then, there was a DJ by the pool playing fun music and doing silly things with the kids, they announced my daughter's birthday, and had everyone sing Happy Birthday, then had her lead the conga line around the pool to "Hot, Hot, Hot". We danced with the kids for a bit and before you knew it, the fireworks over the marsh had started. We had a ball, and will be there the same week this year and will definately do it again.

Price I think was $25 or so for adults, maybe $15 for the kids. The crafts were $1 each.

hi ... also wondered... do you think that hhi will EVER start including veggie/boca burgers in this kind of an event for those of us who are not carnivores lol? always wanted to go to this or the low country shrimp boil kind of thing they have for the fun and convenience and general atmosphere , but dont want to pay high prices for meat and seafood i cant have. it would be so great for us and others if they could and so easy and cheap to do :goodvibes :) !

I'll bet that if they knew about it ahead of time they'd be glad to do it. But there may not be enough demand to just automatically include vegetarian items. You can always ask ahead of time and see what they say!
