Nope, we didn't care for it either. Can't even remember what we had because it was several years ago -- never went back after that. There are too many dining options in Hilton Head to go back to a place you weren't crazy about!
Despite BWVDenise warning us about their feelings on San Miguels, we too went there... we found it to be "okay", and in some ways, bordering on the bizarre?!? Didn't have any margaritas (ok, so we did at least take THAT bit of advice, Denise!

) but they served my Tecate beer in a can (which just didn't work... the lime kept blockin' the hole.) My sister asked for water and the waiter didn't understand -- second time around we said, "Agua!" and he said, "Si!".... but no aqua for us.

Weird. The menu says they will charge you for "seconds" on chips and salsa.... they didn't. I presume that's to keep folks from tanking up on the freebies over a drink and leaving without a meal.
That said -- two colleagues who are HHI regulars (one owns a condo in Shelter Cove) claim THE place for tex mex food is Santa Fe. Next time, I'll try that.
We went to Scott's (it was quite good) and also Giuseppi's (but NOT the Giuseppi's in Shelter Cove -- this is a DIFFERENT one in Sea Pines, that you can get a coupon for on restaurant.com). It was excellent and with the coupon, a really great deal. Good strombolis! As for whether Salty Dog is "good for kids" - if you go in the afternoon, they have kid's activities for a small fee (painting, beads, and similar crafts). There are lots of tables with umbrellas to dine outside, and if nothing else, you can do what we did -- just get some ice cream and/or drinks and soak up the ambiance. Some have found the food to be not worth the price... I think I heard that about nearly EVERY restaurant on/near water with a view at HHI, though - LOL! Honestly -- we went b/c my eldest son was fit to be tied to get a SD shirt!
