HH restaurants

I haven't read all the replies, so this may have been mentioned.
We are far from HH experts, but we just did a couple days there. We ate at two places:

- Alexander's, which we found marginal at best.
- Crane's (Craine's?) Tavern, which was outstanding.

Both were within five minutes of the resort.

Have fun! :drinking:

If you like BBQ, try the Smoke House BBQ across the street from the Coligny Plaza. (On the right side when you come up to CP on your left). I had a mustard type sauce that was excellent.

Let me give you a slightly twist, things I've posted before but I don't think it's in this thread. Many of the choices listed on this thread have specials of one type of another. Many have early bird specials and/or coupons. And some are on the DVC discount list. AAMOF, I've used the early bird specials combined with the DVC discount at Alexanders and the free salad plus DVC discount at the Old Oyster Factory. There is a book produced periodically that has menus, discounts and a lot of info, you can get it at a number of places including the welcome center. It will list those with early bird specials though not always the specific choices. And you can get the DVC discount from the front Desk. And for those of you that may have a Marriott connection, the list of discounts with Marriott is about 2 pages long in 12-14 pt type. Even if not staying at a Marriott timeshare, go by there and get the list then you can show your Marriott ID and get the discount. This applies to places like Wild Wings, Fitzgerald's, Captains Table and the like.

Thanks OneMoreTry ---I am leaving this weekend and I have a "draft" list... I am writing down some of the choices you put and I am going to look into them....
I believe I have the book that Dean is talking about...
Dis-happy had an extra one and was kind enough to give it to me! :teeth:

Thanks everybody.... now I have some more work to do!.. yeah!

I just made up a list of places for us to try this go around. I will add my reviews to this thread when we get back...

Hi, Just wondering if anyone has tried any of these HH restaurants
EVELYN's CAFE & CATERING
UPPER CRUST
DEL VECCHIO'S
There are coupons for these at Restaurant.com so I was curious if it would be worth purchasing them or not for our August trip????? :confused3

The only one of these we've tried is DelVecchio's. It's your typical pizza place, with sandwiches, salads, etc. also available. I don't remember anything specific about the pizza, which means it must not have been extraordinarily good or bad. ;) They are usually on the list of restaurants that offer the discount for DVC members. Can you combine the discount with the coupon?

I've never heard of the other two. I have the Hilton Head Island Resturant magazine, that magazine size book you can get various places, with menus, etc. The other two must be new, they're not listed there.

..Or they just don't care to pay for the advertising. ;)

Restaurant.com has coupons ($10 for $25 towards meal) for Nick's Steak and Seafood. It is not far from the resort and was very good. Code 37710 should get you another 50% off - good till July 1st(found in a Google search).

Can't wait for our 6/26 check-in!!

Thanks for all the great information about the Hilton Head Restaurants. We will be returning to Hilton Head at the end of July.
Our favorite restaurants from last year were:
  • The Garden Oak Grill
  • The Hofbrau House
  • The Oceanfront Deck at The Marriott (My kids loved the Blondie Pizza!)

The one restaurant will we not go back to is the Italian Restaurant at Shelter Cove.

My brother wants to try Alexanders and Truffles. Does anyone have any more information about them?

Also someone mentioned the "Alligator Adventure." Does anyone have information about this?

Thank You!!

anyone know of any good seafood buffet restaurants at HH that have crab legs on the buffet? MMMMMMMMMMM....

We went to Hudson's on Rachel Ray's recomendation. We were very disapointed with the seafood there. It is a long wait and the shrimp was dry and tuff. It should not be slimy if it is fresh. Old Oyster Factor has fried platters, that I thought was better than Hudson's. though I am not a fan of Old Oyster Factory. I think it should be tried by everyone at least once, I just don't like to wait to be seated. At Hud, and OOF will have the longest waits on the whole Island.

I think the Hilton has a major seafood buffet on Fri night but don't know if they have crab legs. The Westin might as well. I can't think of a regular seafood buffet restaurant. Personally, I like the Old Oyster Factory. I doubt you'll find a deal on crab though as the crab legs would all be flown in from other places anyway other than maybe blue crab.

Nope, we didn't care for it either. Can't even remember what we had because it was several years ago -- never went back after that. There are too many dining options in Hilton Head to go back to a place you weren't crazy about! :goodvibes

Despite BWVDenise warning us about their feelings on San Miguels, we too went there... we found it to be "okay", and in some ways, bordering on the bizarre?!? Didn't have any margaritas (ok, so we did at least take THAT bit of advice, Denise! ;) ) but they served my Tecate beer in a can (which just didn't work... the lime kept blockin' the hole.) My sister asked for water and the waiter didn't understand -- second time around we said, "Agua!" and he said, "Si!".... but no aqua for us. :( Weird. The menu says they will charge you for "seconds" on chips and salsa.... they didn't. I presume that's to keep folks from tanking up on the freebies over a drink and leaving without a meal.

That said -- two colleagues who are HHI regulars (one owns a condo in Shelter Cove) claim THE place for tex mex food is Santa Fe. Next time, I'll try that.

We went to Scott's (it was quite good) and also Giuseppi's (but NOT the Giuseppi's in Shelter Cove -- this is a DIFFERENT one in Sea Pines, that you can get a coupon for on restaurant.com). It was excellent and with the coupon, a really great deal. Good strombolis! As for whether Salty Dog is "good for kids" - if you go in the afternoon, they have kid's activities for a small fee (painting, beads, and similar crafts). There are lots of tables with umbrellas to dine outside, and if nothing else, you can do what we did -- just get some ice cream and/or drinks and soak up the ambiance. Some have found the food to be not worth the price... I think I heard that about nearly EVERY restaurant on/near water with a view at HHI, though - LOL! Honestly -- we went b/c my eldest son was fit to be tied to get a SD shirt!

We just returned from HHI. We did go to Scotts and while the food was good, The waiter was unpleasant, and hurried us along. HE brought the soup and salad at the same time, and we went from drink, to soup to salad to entree and out in less than an hour. Considering the cost, I just was dissapointed with the service, especially since there were only 2 or 3 tables filled. My DH had a wonderful tenderloin steak and I had salmon. Both were good. WE really like Hilton Head diner for breakfast I had excellent french toast. We went back for dinner one night as well. Guiseppis pizza at Shelter cove was very good. Nancy

Aww, what a shame! Our server didn't do that with us (too bad you couldn't have had the server we had!) We had soup, etc. with our meal, too; everything came in the "right" order and timing, LOL. DH's only issue was that his seafood gumbo wasn't nearly the bountiful harvest of seafood that mine was! It was a clear-cut case of gumbo injustice. Lucky for him, I was in a "giving" mood and passed a shrimp and half a HUGE scallop his way....It wasn't too crowded (I know there were open tables on the patio where we were seated) and I recall just sitting for a while listening to "guitar dude" play after we were done with our meal. No hurries, no big rush (or at least, server didn't SEEM to rush us!)

Iam still trying to find a way to convince DH we NEED to follow the kids advice and, when we aren't at WDW, we need to be in HHI! We had a really good time there! Now if I can just get to Vero... (and BTW -- if you go to Vero -- my sister said GO TO SQUID LIPS RESTAURANT. Said it's a great place with great seafood.) :teeth:

We have a $20 credit at restaurant.com right now and the following look good based on the menus (none of us eat seafood) for lunch or dinner.

Any recommendations from this list? Any to avoid?

B-5 Bistro
Beachwalk Cafe
Cafe Wexford
Nick's Steak & Seafood
Parrot Cove Cafe
Plantation Cafe.

Also, any recommendations for a good rib place on HHI?

Thanks!
