I am a brand new member of this board and this is my first post so please excuse me if I make any mistakes in protocol.

My wife, two friends and I are travelling to Hilton Head June 15-20 and have several questions:

1. We plan to arrive on noon Sunday. Is there any chance our 2BR will be ready?

2. Any recommendations on affordable twilight golf ($30-$50)?

3. We want to try kayaking but we have never been before. Any suggestions which tour to take?

4. We would like to cap off our stay with a dinner cruise but I haven't been able to find much on the Web. Has anyone done this before or heard of a reputable company that offers this?

Thanks so much for your help and I look forward to being a part of this board!

We have been to HH this and last April, both times in a 2 bedroom, and both times checking in on a Sunday. The first time our room was not ready until 4. This April, when we got there to check in at 8:45 am, our room was ready. There were three of us then checking in, and they were all ready. They said a lot of people had left early from the week before since it had been rainy. We both times packed a bag with just bathing suits in case the room was not ready so that we could use the pool.

We did the kayaking offered through Disney this year, and we really enjoyed that one. We even saw a bald eagle along with dolphins and other animals.

There is always the chance your room will be ready, you're checking in on a Sunday so with the high points cost of Saturdays there is always a likelyhood the resort wasn't full the night before (due to high points cost at weekends).

For golf I would recommend stopping at a golf outlet/store on your way in to the resort and picking up one of the free golfing magazines that will be at the doorway/checkout (there is a golf store a mile or so South of the resort on the same side of the road as DVC HH in a small aracade of shops). I don't think you'll struggle to find good golf at that rate.

As an alternate to your idea of a dinner cruise I would suggest you think about "A Private Affair" which is a dinner option offered by DVC. Chef Gordon is the name of the guy that runs the program. This is now offered at the beach house overlooking the ocean and he will cook a superb meal for just your group ( it includes wine) . He will cook whatever you request, but can fax/email you some sample menus of what he does ( The home made Defuskie crab cakes were absolutely wonderful). He's a great chef and fantastic company, full of DVC information and also about the area around HH in general. You can watch him cook, take part, chat with him or just let him get on with it and talk amongst yourselves (although you're missing out as he's a great host and has some great info IMHO). I thought this was the best meal ( and great value) of my trips to HH. If you search this board you'll find a lot of info about " A Private Affair" , IMHO this is likely to be a far superior dining experience and the view is pretty good as well.

You can also call the resort front desk for info on golf. They do have special arrangements on fees for some courses and will even set up your tee times for you!

Dinner cruises are nice. We took a twilight one which was nice.

You'll probably find brochures around the island. There's tons of tourist information everywhere. The DVC staff can probably help you also.

These cruises would be leaving from the main marina (Just can't think of the name of it right now. It's the one down by the lighthouse).

We have been 6 times to HHI and last July we checked in at 12:00 and our 2-bedroom was ready. CM at check-in said"You are lucky, you have the nicest room here!" He was sooo right! We had building 31 (last building at the turn around)and our porch overlooked the entrance to ShelterCove. Every morning we saw dolphins and watched the kayakers playing with them! We also had a bird's eye view of the barge that launches the firesorks on Tues nights in July. Short walk to pool area. It was amazing! We have stayed 3 times in main lodge once in building 13, and once in 22. Loved them all, but main bilding and 13 have the covered parking which is an advantage. You can tell we love this resort and added on points there in Oct 2002. We usually visit at the holidays but now we have some 11 month window points.
You can call the front desk and ask for golf help. They are very helpful.
Have fun!
