Probably wouldn't even be able to get this at 7 months... but just curious of any opinions on visiting here in March if possible? Weather too cold?

Our SB is mid March... just trying to think of other options besides disney world.... still a long way for us coming from texas.. but it would be a new experience!

Thanks in advance! KIM

We got a 1BR over Easter in 2011 at the 7 month mark so there is always hope! (This was before online booking so that probably helped)

A 2BR will increase your odds since there are a LOT more of them...76 dedicated 2BR's at the resort! There are only 21 2BR lock-offs meaning only 21 studios and 21 1BR's...and only 5 GV's, if those were on your radar.

We have only visited over the first week of April for the three trips we've taken. I would say that we've had pleasant weather, but it wasn't super-hot by any means. Being from Michigan, any day in the 70's is beach weather and if the ocean temp is above 70, it's going to feel like bath water. If you're plans include laying on the beach all day, you may find mid-March a bit chilly. The resort itself has so much to offer and I would definitely recommend trying it out as an alternative to WDW. The cast members there are the BEST I have ever seen. They absolutely LOVE their jobs and they truly welcome every, single guest. From the moment you arrive there you will feel like you are part of a family reunion. There are games, campfire sing-a-longs, pool parties...and the cast members rotate duties throughout the resort. The person working the recreation desk one day might be leading the nature tour the next day...and he/she will greet you by name! Honestly, it is SO amazing...I cannot put it into words... I remember they had a "dance contest" on the pool deck and the life guards actually jumped into the pool and started playing with some of the kids!

Check out this Facebook page for videos and photos and you may get the idea of what an awesome place this is....

Wow, sounds wonderful! Even if its a bit cold sounds like there is lots to do besides lay on the beach! Plus kids are crazy and will get in water way colder than we will! play in sand etc. We are from Texas so it will feel cold to us!! Well, I may try and get this... I have points I need to use and I am already taking 2 disney trips this year and my friend can't get off spring break so trying to think of where else I would like to go! sounds like it would be an awesome experience! thanks so much for responding!

What a coincidence-we were also there for Easter in 2011, celebrating our anniversary.

We've gone 3 times in March and had widely varying weather. One year was very cold, rainy, and windy all week-never went above mid-50s. Yet another year was nice and sunny, low 70s, perfect weather to ride bikes and play mini-golf (and for DH, regular golf). The only disadvantage of spring break is if you're a big billiards player. There's a pool table in Big Murgie's Den that's always busy!

OK! Thanks.. my kid loves to play pool! Sounds like a great time! Less expensive than disney too.. no tickets to buy etc.

We were just there Spring Break this year. Weather was great! Low to mid 70's for most of the week- a day or two that was cool.
I think the week before us was freezing and the week after us got a few days of rain- so it's hard to tell during that time frame what you get.
I live in the Carolina's so I am used to this weather.

Pools are heated.
And yes, the absolute best CM's in all of Disney! They go above and beyond!

WAAAAAY less expensive...

We drove from Michigan in a rental car (intermediate SUV), stayed overnight one night in Hyatt/Marriott-level hotels each way, stayed 5 nights at the resort (using our own DVC points), ate out once or twice, took an off-shore fishing trip, rented bikes for the week and bought groceries while we were there...

....all 7 nights for under $3000 for our family of 4:teeth:.

In 2011, I used hotel points and credit card rewards and we managed to do 8 nights for under $1200! On that trip, we did not take the fishing trip ($800!), we didn't drive a rental car ($400) and we took our own bikes ($150) so that saved quite a bit of money, but even with those expenses, it is still a very affordable vacation.

I look at the fact that 5-day PH tickets alone are almost $2K for my family and suddenly, I'm almost ready to trade in my AKV points for more points at HHI....

Love HHI. We were there the last week of March this year. It was chilly but still a great getaway from NE Ohio. We booked at 7 months and got a 2-bedroom. There are many more 2-bedrooms than studios/one-bedrooms so that will up your chances.

sounds great! Yes, I can imagine.. less expensive and more relaxing! It will be about a 15-16 hr drive if we drive it vs. flying.... thats the only downside! I just may shoot for this for spring break! Thanks so much, KIM

good! sounds like I have a shot at it then! I am also surprised at how few points are required here vs. vero beach... I wonder why? Not sure but I am happy about it!

Did you think it was too cold to swim or enjoy the beach?

Too cold for the ocean. We did sit on the beach and the kids enjoyed the pools. I stuck to the hot tub. The cast members did say that it was abnormally cool.

Too cold to swim- the water was chilly! But we did enjoy the beach. I found the pool water at the beach house to be warmer than the pool at the resort- even though they are heated to the same temp. I asked the life guards back at the resort- they said it's because there is no shade at the beach house so it warms up a bit more naturally.

We went to HHI for spring break (last week of March) both in 2017 and 2018. Weather was quite a bit different between the years - 2017 was super awesome... highs near 80 every day and very pleasant. We stopped by the beach almost every day and had a great time. This year (2018) was quite a bit chillier... highs in the 50s and 60s. Did get some beach time on the days it was mid-60s, but overall we had to bundle up a bit for this trip.

Hilton Head is a great place to vacation, and having different things to do other than the beach is nice. For spring break it can be a bit of a toss-up on weather. If you're ok with the possibility of cooler than desirable weather, I'd suggest it. If you absolutely have to have a warm weather trip for your spring break, then you might want to stick to something further south.
