Hey...put that Camera Away

Has anybody ever been told that while taking pictures on attractions? I have never been told by a Disney CM that I could not take pictures on an attraction, but I was curious if anybody else had?

There's only a few I believe where they even say no camers. If anything, i see people getting mad at each other.. because of flashes and stuff.. but not CMs.

Never witnessed anyone being told to put it away, but it always amazes me the gall of some people who completely ignore the signs ALL Over the place on a ride where video and flash photography is prohibited.

Recently while we were on POC, we heard an "announcement" to turn off the external light on the video camera. It wasnt us, but somone in another boat. I had never heard that before. I knew videotaping was allowed there, and Ive actually never heard or seen any warnings about external lighting there, but I guess thats not allowed.

First comment I want to make...

When I was in Disney World.. some many like 6 years ago or such... we were on Star Tours and there was a man with his video camera. The CMs interupted the sound of the ride to tell hiim to put it away, of course which he didn't. They did it again. Finally he did, but after the ride the either took the camera or the tape. I believe the tape.


Second thing...

Since my many trips to Disney, I have noticed their.... kind of.. like.. how do you say it... They are letting more and more taping and taking pictures of things on the rides and attractions. Even just a couple of years ago, there were no video cameras on certain things, now they say "You may video tape, just have no external lights on" or something of the sort.

I too have been on Pirates when someone announced over a loud speaker to turn off the external lighting on a video camera. I was actually really glad, the light was very annoying and distracting to the ride. I have also been very bothered by an external light on a video camera at HM. It was during the scene with Leota where we all go in a circle, a person accross from me shined it right in my eyes and I couldn't see anything but spots for a while.

Not on an attraction but during MNSSHP all were asked not to use flash photo while the headless hourseman rode thru at the start of the parade so not to startle the horse. I was shocked to see how many guests just totally disregarded the request. It could have become serious if that horse was startled (and that is one big horse!) with people all lined up on Main street with no where to go to get out of its way.

when they say "external lighting" or lights or whatever.. do they mean like the spot lights.. or the lights from the LCD screens?

I've had CM's tell me when a ride starts no external lighting or flashes please. We comply but most people just do what they want.

We were at Tiki birds and were told no pictures please - and of course someone took a flash picture, the cm came over and talked to her, she put the camera away......... (it was a disposable camera)

I hope I don't get told this!! I plan to take photos everywhere I can... obeying the rules, of course!

My parents were on Pirates once and they stopped the ride and told the guy to stop taking flash pictures. You would think that people would not risk being embarrased like that just to get their shot.

I was at Voyage of the Little Mermaid once, and right in front of me was this man videotaping. Although he didnt have an external spotlight shining, he DID have his LCD window open. When the lights went out, it illuminated everything BEHIND him, and it was in my eyes. It was so distracting, and quite frankly rude. Finally someone else told him to shut the screen, it was ruining the show for those behind him. Do people just not think? Or do they just not care??? He obviously saw that the screen was shining brightly in the dark!! So remember, if you are going to videotape, use your viewfinder and not the screen on dark rides and shows! And take as many pictures as you like, just turn the flash off first. It was actually a CM at the MNSSHP last year that told, and showed me, how to take a digital picture in the dark without the flash and have it come out better than WITH the flash!! I was trying to take the Haunted Mansion all lit up with spooky lights,and it wasnt coming out with the flash. He showed me what to do without the flash and it came out awesome!!!

Its just as bad as those who stop in the middle of the row while the CM is repeating over and over and over to MOVE ALL THE WAY DOWN... and they just sit there... OOohhh.. I hate that!! lol

I am totally with you about the people that sit down half-way down the row. I understand that they are on vacation and want to have the best experience but my feeling is that we are all in this together. Common courtesy makes everything so much easier.

I also second the thing about taking night pictures without the flash. Recently we were on vacation in the U.P. of Michigan and took some awesome sunset shots that were so much better with the natural light.

Last year as I was taking a picture of my daughters standing by the monorail at the GF, a gentleman standing near the front of the train told me that no pictures were allowed. I had just snapped the picture so I put the camera away and nothing else was said. For a minute I thought he might have been joking but I really think he was serious.

This is the BIGGEST pet peave of mine! I purposely watched the people doing it the last time we were in Mermaid and Muppets 3D. The people are LITERALLY ignoring the CM. IN Mermaid, the CM was obviously taking to them, and they just sat there and looked at her, never budged. She finally said the show will not start, and they got up and moved down. UNBELIEVABLE! Truly. I told my DH on the way out, I WANT this job! I would be in my glory "directing" people to follow directions. I would be bold, I would physically go over to the party and demonstrate how to move all the way down an aisle (yes, I can be a B!$#&) I would have great satisfaction of knowing I just let the whole room know who the idiots are! LOL

If I'm behind one of the middle-of-the-room sitters, I just walk past them to continue to the end of the line...making sure I step on a least a few toes on my way by...

If there were just something like that to do to the flash and spotlight fools on the dark rides!
