It really bothers me too, when I see kids unbuckled in a car. What bothers me more, is when I see kids riding in the back of a pickup truck. Very scary

A little OT, but still concerning children and cars. Last weekend, my husband treated 3 amputated fingertips and 1 amputated toe due to slammed car doors! I always check all of my passenger's fingers and toes (including my mother) before closing the door; I guess my DH trained me well.

My cousin was riding in the back of a pick-up while doing road work during the summer. The truck was travelling at a very slow (less than 10 MPH) speed when he was bumped out. He sustained a severe head injury, and was on life support for weeks, then remained in a coma for another few months. He was lucky; he finally "woke up" but was left severely disabled.

That's really scary! A police officer told us that another bad thing is when parents buckle the kids in , and then put one of those tv/vcr combos in the car for the kids to watch and don't secure it down well (if it's not one of the kind that is permanently installed)--he said there have been tons of bad accidents from the driver hitting the brakes and the tv flying into the child's head etc.

I was riding a city bus once and we went by a pickup truck with a woman sitting in the front seat and holding a baby in her lap (the baby couldn't have been more than 6 months old).....that really bothered me and I got the license plate number of the truck and called the police as soon as I got where I was going.
