...and I have 3 words
SWIM UP BAR.
OK guys, so you say you need a trip report. We did have a good time and are already starting to laugh about some of the stuff that happened on the downer side, it all makes for good memories.
Got into Cancun Saturday morning, went to go get our car from Thrifty. I had reserved a compact car, was supposed to be $104 with tax. Well by the time we were through, it was around $229 because you had to take at least 1 of the insurances. Anyway, go to get our stuff in the car, and there is no way the luggage is going to fit (we had 4 suitcases, plus the small rolling carry on and lap top). After much pushing and shoving, they managed to get 2 suitcases in the trunk, and we put the other 2 in the back seat, pushing the front seat all the way up as far as it would go. Now Briana has to sit on Alex's lap in the back, and I have to drive, with my knees on the dashboard (Micco would never have been able to drive). We stayed at Club Internacional (which they call VCI or Vacation Club Internacional). It is a part of the Royal Resorts (which has 4 other places in Cancun, also part of DVC). This one is the oldest Time Share in the world, 30 years old, so it is an older hotel, but well kept, nice pool, but horrible beach

So we spent all our time at the pool. We were able to use the other resorts, but kind of felt comfortable there, liked the swim up bar, and happy hour every day from 2-5.
Jenny Frozen margaritas only $2.50, not bad.
Micco dove every day except for the day we got there and Thursday. He dove Cenotes 3 times, and he loved it. The rest of the diving he said was not that great, but it could have been because of the storm just going through. But not as good as Cozumel. Cenotes are sinkholes that have been formed over thousands of years because the ground is limestome, this forms caves with crystal clear water in them, that are still used for drinking.
On Tuesday, I took the girls to do Selvatica, an eco-friendly park where we did Zip-Line, Bicycling and swam in the cenotes. We had a great time, except that Alex got hurt. There was a zip line that you hung off and then dropped into the water (or dove, or whatever) and on her 2nd time in, she let go of the line too quick because her hands were slippery and fell way too hard and awkward into the water, hit it pretty hard. She is still sore, but she was really hurting that night. All 3 of us got to go upside down on the zipline (tandem, of course - I would never do that alone), that was pretty awesome.
Oh, speaking of upside down, on Monday night we went to Senor Frog's (one of Briana's favorite places) and they have this thing over the bar that pulls you upside down, they pour shots in your mouth and spin you. So Briana did it. Then her and I went back on Friday night and she made me do it. I can't believe I did it, I thought I was going to be sick.
On Thursday, we all went to look at The Royal Haciendas in Playa del Carmen. It is a new resort that Royal Resorts is building, they have completed Phase 1 and 2, and there are 4 phases total. It will be a part of DVC's resorts, and it is a Time Share. They treated us to lunch (which was awesome) and did not give us a high pitched sell, but Micco and I fell in love with it. The grounds are gorgeous, the apartments are amazing, each one with a hot tub on the very large balcony. The property is right on the beach and the beach is beautiful therre. And there is a fast ferry that goes right over to Cozumel, where Micco could spend the day diving and come back to that beautiful place. We are thinking about it, and trying to find a way to make it work and buy in, you know how we love Mexico. After that we did a little shopping in Playa del Carmen, it was very hot walking around the streets that afternoon, couldn't wait to get back for my margaritas.
Now to the bad taste that was left in my mouth. On our way back from Playa, I was driving, and we got pulled over by the Mexican Policia. I had no clue why they were pulling me over, I wasn't doing anything wrong, I was doing 80 km in an 80 km zone, and everyone was passing me. Well we got the Mexican shakedown, told me I was doing 90 (NOT), would not speak to us in English, had no clue half of what he was saying, he wanted to take my driver's license, and I was going to have to go get it the next day. Anyway, to make this story short, Micco had been told by one of the dive instructors that if you ever got stopped here, they wanted $20. So after much back and forth, we gave him the $20, and left. I was fuming, as you could imagine. In all the times we have been to Cozumel, and rented a car, never had this problem, come to Cancun once and this is what happens.
We found that they are always trying to get more money out of you, we got ripped off the first night at dinner, when they put an $18 tip on our $60 bill, and we were just too confused to argue. They also tried to rip us off at the gas station when we filled up on the way back to the airport, 119 pesos (approximately 12), give the guy a $20, he gives me back $1. I said "No, you have to give me back $8". All of a sudden the price starts changing, and I turn around to Micco and said "He's trying to rip us off". They think the Americans are stupid, drunk or both. Finally wound up with $7 change, shook my head and called it a day. Like I said, none of this ever happened in Cozumel, so I still do like Mexico, just not sure if I would go back to Cancun, I liked Playa del Carmen better.
Anyway, wrote enough for now, I am hungry, have to figure out what is for dinner.
