Hey, Has Anybody Noticed That Taylor Swift Can't Sing?

Eh, considering today's "You Tune" and all the voice overs done today, she is riding in front of the mediocre pack. They are just products of an industry.

I like that Romeo/Juliet song.:duck:

Going back to an earlier post in this thread: Is it really true that Britney CAN'T sing? It seems to me that I recall watching several of her younger video tryouts (Mousketeers, Star Search, etc.) and she actually could sing (if she was standing still). So can she not sing, or can she not sing while doing her acrobatic dancing in her shows?

To each his own. I like her.

I don't think the following can sing:
Bob Dylan
Neil Young
Frank Sinatra
Bruce Springsteen
Barbra Streisand (I HATE her voice)
Rihanna

I could go on and on....... it's all opinion!

I think the key is that she was a performer with showmanship. Part of the success of the current stars are product marketablilty. As a singer she was always mediocre.

I am sure you could walk into any church and find young girls that could sing the pants off today's superstars.

I think she is an average singer, but a very talented song writer and entertainer. Besides that, I like her personality. I only like a few of her songs, but I can see why she is appealing to people.

This--

I can see why people enjoy her.

Everytime I listen to classic country and here songs by Loretta Lynn for example--I scratch my head wondering what was so appealing about her voice. Her voice is not that great. But it was raw and natural and she had a story to tell and people enjoyed her.

June Carter felt the same way about herself--she didn't think she had a great voice and considered herself an entertainer.

I'm not sure if Taylor is country, but for some reason, I have her in that genre and her singing does not bother me enough to say she "can't" sing. It isn't like she can sing opera or she's classically trained. Methinks the expectations are way to high and just b/c someone wins awards and makes money off of their voice, doesn't mean that their voice is as pure as the driven snow. (or whatever that saying is. lol!)

I totally agree and have been saying this since her first live performance on an awards show a while ago!! People get so mad at me when I say she can't sing. I'm not saying she's not a talented writer because she is. But she can't sing live people!! Her recorded music only sounds good because it's edited!

I think something went wrong during that performance with her earpiece or something. I have seen her perform live and it was amazing!!

Who's getting mad?

This has been going on since the beginning of music. Not sure why folks are shocked now just b/c the technology in the studio is better.:confused3

She is a heck of a song writer, Her singing is lacking for me. I think Miley is 100% better singer then Taylor

my DD12 was shocked and disappointed when she heard TS sing live a couple of months ago. DD LOVES her and hearing how weak and off-key she was...i could see her face just fall. i think TS is a much better songwriter than singer, and i'm thankful she writes music my DD can listen to-99.99% of what's on the radio is pure trash. i'm willing to cut her some slack on the singing if she'll keep writing clean music.

My dd said the same thing when she saw her this past summer at Country USA in Oshkosh WI.

Kelly Clarkson is a great singer, but the industry is trying to bash her, because she gained a few pounds. I don't think you can please everyone or anyone ever.

Every award show I have since seen her sing on she's been pretty terrible! I was just talking about the first show I saw her on. I didn't go into the recent ones! To each his own. If you think she's good then good for you. I personally thinks she's a great writer but terrible live singer. I do think she seems like a really sweet girl though.

I think a big part of Taylor Swift's problem is confidence on stage. To me, it doesn't sound like she "can't sing", she sounds like a 17 year old with stage fright. Hopefully, with practice, time and experience, she can bring her live performances around.

And I agree, Kelly Clarkson is an amazing vocalist.

Bruce Springsteen cannot sing.

Bob Dylan cannot sing.

Steven Tyler cannot sing.

And I love them all!

My DD(23yo) saw her awhile ago and said that she has absolutely no stage presence at all. I think that she may have been an opening act at one of the concerts that she went to. DD is a huge country fan but doesn't care for Taylor at all.

I do have to agree that the staging for the video in the OP's link was over the top. Fountains, dancers and all that jazz in constant motion while she stood there hardly moving.

I think there are very few performers that CAN sing without studio effects on their voice. I guess Taylor is just one more in the long line of performers that should stick to CD's and not live performances

IMO- I don't care if she can't sing.

She is adorable, sweet, wholesome, humble, kind, grateful, etc. Basically, a good role model for kids in today's world (I mean wouldn't you rather have your kid looking up to Taylor Swift instead of Britney, Lindsay Lohan, Miley Cyrus?).

I've seen her in concert and thought she put on a GREAT show. She does have a presence and people simply love her. In addition, her songs are downright catchy!

There are a lot of "artists" that I feel can't sing but sometimes personality makes up for it.

Yeh, what she said. ;)

Agreed! All of these guys are poor singers at best. And I don't really think Beyonce is any Streisand either :rotfl2:

Taylor Swift is not a good live singer, but her "likeability" is off the hook. She seems sweet, and after the whole Kanye debacle, she was elevated to music goddess status.

That being said, I like her music a lot. She's not the first mediocre singer to achieve this kind of fame, and certainly won't be the last.
