I know that many of you are waiting for final, official word on DISCon II. While I can not give that yet, I can tell you that it is DEFINATELY going to happen, and most likely will be at the Swan/Dolphin this year. The delay is because of one thing and one thing only: The way it was done last year (which was entirely my fault) was a management nightmare, and we ended up losing quite a bit of money on it in the end. I have to make sure that this year things are going to be done a little differently. First, I think we opened up registration too early last year, and it led to a number of changes and cancellations throughout the course of the year. I want/need to avoid that this year. I will tell everyone that the initial deposit for DISCon II will be $100 and will be non-refundable. The only reason we are doing that is to help make sure that the people who book are relatively certain that they want to come. The cancellations/changes that were made last year became a nightmare for us, and I can't let it happen again. I don't look to make any money on this (and that is the honest truth), but I can't lose money on it either. This years event will be more focused on the meets (not as many 'planned' functions), which will help keep the events cost down. I'm trying to keep the events portion of things below $200 per person, and we are working on special pricing with the Swan/Dolphin for rooms/event packages.
So, there you have it. I anticipate that we will be opening up registration for the event in early to mid-June. We will not be limiting the number of registrations, so once registration is open, it will remain open right up until the event in December. I am fairly certain the dates of Dec 4-8th will be the final dates for the event.
I hope that answers everyones questions about DISCon II. I'll be giving more reports in the weeks that follow.
Thanks,
Pete
