I am sure many of you are familar with this project and I am hoping the Dis can help! This is the "homework" we received today from the "Gingerbreadboy".

Hi!
I am the gingerbread boy. My friend Emily was reading some stories about me in kindegarden. I decided to jump out of the book and come visit you! I know my friends back at Maple Avenue School are wondering where I have run to. Please help by sending them a post card depiciting something about the area where you live. This post card will be posted on a large map of the United States. It will help the children with their study of the United States by showing them how different parts of the country look. I know my friends will enjoy hearing from you and learning about where I have run!

Thank You the Gingerbread Boy!

So are you Disers up for the challenge?? How about throwing in a post card when your doing you Christmas cards. I really would appreciated it. It could also be a good lesson on the "power of the internet" and the Dis,lol!
Please send post cards to:

Maple Avenue Elementary
W240 N6059 Maple Avenue
Sussex, WI 53089

Attn: Emily in Mrs. Olberg's class

Thanks!

UPDATE: The first card has arrived! The winner is FLORIDA!!

I'll try!! I'm usually bad at this sort of thing, don't ever let me be in an exchange!

Well, since I live in a town where a very famous person named " Emily" lived, and as I work in a kindergarten, I think I may just have to come up with something here:)

i'll get ohio and michigan in mail for you

Thanks all! Keep 'em coming!!!:D

Canada would be great!!

I will hunt a SC post card right away ... also, I work in NC if you would like me to send both states? What a FUN idea! Happy Thanksgiving!

Doubtful I can find a local card but when I go Christmas shopping I'll see what I can find from a larger town.

Wasn't the Gingerbread Boy indicted a couple years ago for being involved in a pyramid scheme???

;) :teeth:

Just kidding. . I should be able to find one from here in Tulsa and I'll send it along. . :)

I think I have a few left over from when I shopped for the post card exchange. I'll try to send one or two.

I'll be sending one from my home state--Washington. Right on the Columbia river---20 air miles from Mt St. Helens. I'll try to think of something cute. We are in Hawaii soon----I'll send one from there also but it will need to be towards end of Jan.

If they are wanting city post marks please post to thread---all of the mail from Longview goes to Portland, oregon for sorting. I'd hate to have Portland post mark for a Washington city.

This will be an ongoing project for their class. I have a feeling the teacher doesn't think she'll be receiving to many so it will be going on for the school year. I doubt their looking at the postmarks so I wouldn't worry about that part. I really appreciate all your efforts. I will keep you posted as they arrive! Boy is Mrs. Olberg in for a surprise!!

I'll pop one over from here in the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area. :D

My son did this with "Flat Stanley" and it was a HUGE success. Flat Stanley travelled to Nana's house, a wedding, and all over the United States! Flat Stanley wrote a little note to the class detailing where he was and what he was doing and everyone got to take home some postcards at the end of the year.

Mine is on it's way from Canada too!
