He's officially arrested . . . Updated, page 3

I don't mean to make light of this issue but your comment is making me chuckle. I understand the "sick" part, but what's up with calling him a pig? Sorry, it just struck me funny.

In her sleep? What a coward. Hope he gets the death penalty.

He isn't insane and will have a hard time if that is the direction he chooses. To be insane, you must show that the person didn't know what they did was wrong. Clearly, he did as is proven in his attempt to dispose of the body, make up stories and hide things.

Now the lady in TX that killed her 5 kids, insane. She didn't flee the scene, left the children in the house, didn't deny she'd killed them. That... is insane.

Is it just me, or does anyone else get concerned when they read stuff like this? I mean, here is a woman who trusted this guy enough to marry him, and he's a complete...well, insert your favorite censored word here. Same with Laci Peterson. I also know of a woman locally who was married for 10 years to a guy and then one morning he bludgeoned her with a poker.

Obviously, they trusted these men. They met them, liked them, and started dating them. Fell in love and married them, and now they're dead from them. So, we have two options here: 1) the men in these instances were always creeps and the women were too something (desperate, clueless?) to notice or 2) they came across as totally sane, completely normal guys and there was no way to see this coming. If the truth is (2), then does anyone else find dating to be one of the most frightening things you could do these days?

Maleficent,
I'm wondering if more will come out about him as the story evolves? I find it so hard to believe that someone could just flip out like that out of the blue.

He chose to work in a mental hospital. Maybe he felt comfortable around all of the patients. How bizarre this whole thing is!:(

I agree with most of the posters. I think she found out about his lies. Confronted him probably mentioned Divorce and he freaked out. Waited until she went to sleep and than he killed her, you have heard it before the guy feels if he can have the woment than nobody should (SICK PEOPLE OUT THERE). Just hope he doesn't use his inside knowledge from his job at the mental hospital to start acting insane to get off easy. He needs to be punished for his actions.

I pray that they find her body soon so that her family can have closure and put thier daughter to rest.

Than the poor family is going to have to deal with the case at hand with Mark and the trail.

I pray for them.......

I'll need more details before I can make judgement about his mental stability.

I feel so bad for Lori's family. How helpless they must feel. :(

It seems he has mental health issues. How could he lie to his wife about his medical credentials for such a long time. I could not live with any type of lie. It may be that he really isn't criminally responsible.

IMO, anyone who thinks it's okay to kill someone is mentally insane. Normal people can control their anger. It's no excuse.

If you kill your wife in her sleep, I don't care what illness you have, it does not excuse you from being criminally responsible for your own actions which you chose to take.

Maybe if you are found to be legally insane (which I think all killers are) you should be put in a hospital instead of a jail for the rest of your life, but I am sick of seeing murderers get off on this excuse.

In this case, I honestly think the guy knew exactly what he was doing. I bet she confronted him about the lies, he snapped, killed her and then conviently started acting like a nutjob to give the impression he was insane.

I know, pigs are kind and gentle creatures who are generally pleasant to be around (albeit a little stinky).

This guy was no pig. To call him a pig insults pigs everywhere.

Frankly, I don't think I'll ever be able to understand how something like this can happen.

Slightly OT, but people who are found not guilty by reason of insanity, are not getting off easy. They are placed in a state mental hospital. Have you ever been inside one of these places? It's not a country club by any means. Also, the person in question will always (at least in Virginia) have to go before a judge to find whether or not they are healthy and can live in the community.

It's easier to just go to prison and possibly get out someday.

back to the topic, I hope they find her body soon. The poor family, I cannot even imagine what they are going through. Hopefully the courts will see through his lies and give him the sentence he deserves. I also think he's faking the mental health issue.

Have you ever been inside one of these places?

Yes, I have.

I had a boyfriend in college who snapped one day and was involuntarily committed after ripping his parents living room apart , beating the *blank* out of his father and then driving his car into his neighbors lawn. I was there and I tried to stay with him until about two months into his hospital stay (he was there for several years, eventually I had to get a restraining order because he would call me and harass me etc.).

I visisted him often. It was a pretty nice hospital. I forget what it is called but it is in New Jersey somewhere.

I personally think he is a dangerous guy who should never have been let out. He practically killed his own father that day. But he's out there somewhere...

I don't think people who get comitted get off easy by any means, but I don't like the notion of letting someone be called "not guilty by reason of insanity" after they've killed someone because of a mental illness. It's a slap in the face to the victims families. I'd rather they be called "guilty by reason of insanity". Crazy or no, they still killed someone.

Just my opinion as someone who has seen the insides of a facility that handles these people.

None of the state mental hospitals here are nice.

Anyway, it is incredibly hard to get found not guilty by reason of insanity. Hmmm...not guilty by reason of insanity vs guilty by reason of insanity is just semantics. Same as murder vs manslaughter. Someone is still dead.

I will never understand why Scott Peterson and now this guy thought killing their wives would be easier than divorcing them.
**Assuming they are both guilty**

I have told my husband if he tires of me...walk away. No need to kill me...I won't harrass him for money for me, just the kids.

It amazes me that some people think it is easier to kill than divorce. It also amazes me that Laci was 8 months pregnant and that this other woman may have been, too.

Why would they want to kill their own children?

Lisa

I don't understand the mindset of killing like that. I hope I never do.

But all I have to say is that every since "Whatshisface" got off, they all think that they can get away with it!

Scratch
::yes::

I haven't kept up with the news recently...did they ever find her body?

Memorial Service Held for Lori Hacking

Associated Press

OREM, Utah - Family and friends of Lori Hacking gathered Saturday for a memorial service to remember the woman whom authorities believe was slain by her husband while she slept.

About 600 people attended the service, including the parents of both Lori Hacking and her husband, Mark, who has been charged with her murder. Lori Hacking, 27, has been missing since July 19. Authorities have been searching a landfill for her remains.

Scott Dunaway, president of the LDS Windsor Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Orem, noted the outpouring of concern for the Hacking family as the disappearance drew national attention.

"She has become a daughter, a sister and a granddaughter to so many people," Dunaway said.

The service included a display of Hacking's wedding dress, a poster-sized photograph of her and a plastic bucket used to gather donations for the search efforts that followed early reports of her disappearance.

Her brother, Paul Soares, recalled growing up with Lori. "We never worried about her dating the wrong kind of guy," he said. "I've thought about this over the last couple of days."

Mark Hacking, 28, reported his wife missing July 19. He said she had gone jogging and never showed up for work. That night police found him naked outside a hotel, and he was taken to a psychiatric hospital.

Mark Hacking's two brothers talked with him at the hospital and later told police he confessed to killing his wife while she slept and dumping her body in a trash bin.

Lori Hacking's body, presumed to be in the Salt Lake County landfill, has not been found despite numerous searches. Searchers with cadaver dogs were to return to the landfill Saturday night.

I knew about the memorial service. I can't believe they still haven't found her body. Probably not a good sign since it's been almost a month now.

I wonder if he misled the authorities and she's really somewhere else.

Two things...

1. Someone just said this, but it does seem strange they haven't found the body if he told them where it was. Are they still looking, or don't we know. Makes me wonder too if he lied.

2. Do we have any reason, other than he's insane, why he'd be running around a motel parking lot naked as a jay-bird? That just does not seem to fit.
