Something told me all along that this jerk was the culprit. The pieces just weren't fitting. The media says the PD has the bloodied knife with Lori's hair on it. Maybe this is why the creep went to go get new mattresses. I sure hope they don't dilly dally around like they are doing with the Peterson case. Get this guy in prison!

Hopefully they will find Lori's body--wherever it may be--and then her family can begin their healing process.

This is so sad. Unfortunately, the story is very much like one here where I live.

When I first moved here a woman went "missing", apparently "kidnapped" from a local shopping center. Her car was abandoned in the parking lot. The husband went on TV all upset and begged for her to come back. He even sponsored a walk to aid in her discovery. Police and others were looking all over the local area for her.

Well, turned out the husband killed his wife. Then he had dragged the bloody mattress out of the house and stuffed his wife in a Rubbermaid container. Then he put the container in a storage facility and went about his business of begging for his wife's kidnapper to release her or for her to return home.

As for whether or not Lori was really pregnant, I believe a SIL actually saw the results of the pregnancy test. Although it is odd that she didn't let her mother know right away.

This is so sad. Both families have shown incredible strength.

I've been waiting for this.

I think dvcgirl is RIGHT ON. It was probably a crime of passion rather than a calculated premeditated murder. Lori's co-workers said she got a call that made her cry the day before. It is thought to be the school that he was NOT admitted to.

As for her not telling the family about her pregnancy, she could've been waiting because she was supposedly 5 weeks when she disappeared. I usually don't like to tell my family too early, due to the problems I've had in early pregnancy, who knows... she may have been waiting till she moved.

Whatever the ever I just feel so bad for the families. They were in such denial. No one, NO ONE wants to think that someone they loved killed their own loved one.

Mark Hacking Told a Patient He Killed Wife As She Slept, Salt Lake Authorities Say in Statement

SALT LAKE CITY Aug. 3, 2004 — The husband of a missing pregnant woman told a "reliable citizen witness" in the psychiatric ward that he killed his wife as she slept and then threw her body in a trash bin, according to a court filing.
The document, released Tuesday by the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department, also says investigators found human blood on a knife in the bedroom of Mark Hacking's apartment and on the couple's headboard and bedrail.

Blood found in the bedroom matched traces of blood found in Lori Hacking's car, according to the statement.

Mark Hacking was arrested Monday on a charge of aggravated murder, even though his wife's body has not been found. Lori Hacking has not been seen since July 19, when Hacking said his wife failed to return from a morning jog.

Investigators believe the 27-year-old woman was killed in the couple's apartment and that her body is buried somewhere in 3,000 tons of trash at the county landfill. Searches using dogs were to resume Wednesday night.

Mark Hacking, 28, has not been formally charged. He is being held without bail and was placed on suicide watch.

While thousands of friends and volunteers turned out to search for the missing woman, police already were investigating her husband and searching the couple's apartment.

Police were seen removing a box spring but no mattress from the apartment. They refused to confirm that they had seized an old mattress from a nearby trash bin.

On the morning that Hacking reported his wife had disappeared, police have said, he was buying a mattress even though he told friends and authorities he had been searching her jogging route.

Two days later, news organizations discovered that Hacking had lied about graduating from the University of Utah and lied about being accepted at a medical school in North Carolina, where the couple was to have moved within just days.

Mark Hacking was hospitalized after he was seen running around naked outside a motel where he had taken a room, hours after making an emotional appeal on television for help in searching for his wife.

Lori Hacking's brother, Paul Soares, told "The Early Show" on CBS on Tuesday that the situation is unimaginable.

"It's been described as surreal and that's really how we feel: a situation that you just can't believe is happening," said Soares. "It does come as a shock to me because we did know Mark for so long. But, at the same token, you just don't know what someone's capable of."

Lori Hacking had told friends that she was five weeks pregnant, but police said she had not confirmed a home pregnancy test by visiting a doctor. If her body is found and the pregnancy is confirmed, prosecutors could add an additional murder charge

He is a Sociopath and knew exactly what he was doing. He is absoutely criminally responsible and if I were her family and he got off due to "Temporary Insanity" , I would be totally ticked off. He works on a Psych ward and knows how to ACT (running through a parking lot naked) so that he can pretend to be temporarily insane
