Hertz June Glitch/offer

Works for my dates to, 23rd August to 9th September , I ran a dummy booking, picked a full size coming in at £336 , had the option on checkout to upgrade to a premium car which brings the price down to £259.

I haven't booked as with 5 adults I'd prefer some kind of people carrier / SUV, but can't make it work for that , only get that to £437 , excellent price though - is there any way of booking it and changing the vehicle on arrival ???

You would probably be able to negotiate an upgrade but they know you are tied once at the desk. You might get a bargain you might pay more.

Thanks Wayne,

It's a little early yet, so I will probably wait and see if a better deal comes along for a larger vehicle. On another note , my sons (twins ) will be 20 when we travel , and would love the chance to drive in the States. I see there looks to be a daily surcharge with Hertz for age under 25 drivers of $30 per day , does any one know of any better deals for young additional drivers?

Doesn't work with your dates if you enter 26th June-10th July exactly a month earlier same amount of days you get £237.13 with no code £189.71 with Amex Platinum code (says rate has been discounted 20%) If 8% quidco pays it brings cost down to £174.53 which is a bargain for 2 weeks rental.

Wish I had my flights booked

Thanks Wayne, appreciate your help xxx Did you book your Jetblue flight?

I was bit scared to use the amex plat code as you are supposed to pay with it, it was knocking an extra £20 off my rate, decided yo stick with the AA code as I am a member.

I thought they had to be 21 or over to drive, would be interested to hear outcome as my boy will be 20 when we travel

You would have to get quotes, USrentacar used to do a deal of £100/wk but you had to buy the upgraded Gold cover first. Not looked recently to see what their offer is now.

This is from Hertz site:

"On most retail rentals at corporate locations and participating licensee locations in the US, the minimum age is 25 without an additional Age Differential Charge, and 20 with an additional Age Differential Charge"

The Age Differential Charge
$20/day for all these below, $30 any other class.
(A) Kia Rio or similar
(A6) Economy or Our Choice
(B) Ford Focus or similar
(C) Toyota Corolla or similar
(C4) Chevy Cruze - Fuel Saver
(D) Nissan Altima or similar
(E6) Hybrid Sedan or similar
(F) Chevrolet Malibu or similar
(F6) Toyota Camry or Nissan Altima or similar
(G) Nissan Maxima or similar
(J) Chevy Volt/Nissan Leaf or similar
(O) Honda Compressed Natural Gas Vehicle or similar
(Z6) Volkswagen Jetta TDI Clean Diesel

The minimum age for Prestige & Adrenaline Collections, as well as select high performance vehicles, is imperatively 25.

Sept dates not released yet as far as I can see.

I was an AA member, changed to RAC now, never been asked to show proof, although last booking I didn't use AA code.

The young driver surcharge is for drivers 21-25. Under 21s can not hire cars in FL (or most US states).

I thought so too, but the information posted under the qualifications and requirements link for Hertz at Orlando does state that an Age Differential Charge (daily surcharge) applies from the age of 20.

Thanks Wayne, I'll take a look. I have emailed Hertz just to clarify the position with the excess, two at $30 per day would be more than the rental!

Awesome - used the Amex platinum code and now down to £203.25 for 16 days for a Premium car.

Surely it can't go lower - or can it ??

I would not risk using the plat card, they may check when they see you have not paid with it.

Unless there is another error on a website, no you won't get cheaper than that.

I doubt it will accept payment from any other card, if it does I doubt they will do any further checks. Once at the desk rental companies usually only care you have a booking, not how you made it but there is always a risk.

No, I really do have an Amex Platinum card. I didn't use it to pay but I could if need be.

If you didn't use it to pay I doubt they really care then. They would have it set up to only accept Amex cards if they were bothered.
I still probably wouldn't risk it for the sake of a few £, depends what the saving is.
Glad you have one and no need to worry about it.:thumbsup2

The thing that put me off the plat code was when i registered my credit card with Hertz gold there was an option for Amex and another option for Amex Plat- so I thought for the sake of £20 I would rather not risk it - however if you have a card then you are sorted!

Hopefully my topcashback will pay up- the amount is almost the same as the plat disc anyway- If it don't I still have a great deal, even if I have booked nexts years car before my visit next week lol

The Amex codes are generic CDP codes, they don't check them. The only CDP codes staff are instructed to check ID for are Staff rate (and friends and family rate) Travel industry rates, specific company employee rates such as Ford etc which have certain booking conditions on them and would therefore have only have been given to specific groups of people for that code. So pretty much only codes that would provide a 30% or more discount off the rack rate. All 'standard' affiliations like AA, Amex, etc are so widespread it's not a requirement to check on them.

Try CDP 591064 as well, it's another Amex rate, but sometime returns a slightly higher percentage.

The AA CDP is a fixed discount, the Amex rates fluctuate depending on fleet availability and demand for hire at the time and location. Not sure on the US discount, but certainly here in the UK i've only ever observed 15% or 20%, nothing less, nothing more.

:goodvibes

Not sure what to do now then, is it worth cancelling to save an extra 20 quid ?
