I personally like Cadbury UK Flake a lot. Another place that I've found that has pretty darn good chocolate bars is the food market in IKEA!

Funny, they are probably the only group of people who I've heard of who think that! Guess everyone's tastebuds are different. I do sent some US/Canadian chocolate to friends in the UK, but is stuff they don't get there (or, least, not easily) - like Reese's stuff and peanut butter M&Ms.

It certainly amused me, because, like I said, I like British Chocolate.

Peanut butter was something else we had to ship to DD, she said the British peanut butter just wasn't right. One other cultural difference, her flat mates thought a peanut butter and jelly sandwich was the most disgusting thing they had every heard of.

I had a co-worker that did a job-rotation at our facility in Sweden. They had small kids and when they asked for peanut butter at the grocery store, they were shown one jar on the shelf... and it had dust on the top of it! He made a standing plea that when anyone from the office traveled over there to visit the site to PLEASE bring some peanut butter!

As far as I understand the Hershey/Cadbury ruling, no imports can be made in bulk amounts thus preventing shops stocking or selling Cadbury goods.

For personal use there is no restriction.

In this respect Hershey have created a market for people to pursue chocolates other than their own.

Well I (and apparently I am in the vast minority) like Hershey's chocolate and the fact that my nephew works for them as an engineer in development (I can also assure you there is no "crap" in Hershey's chocolate) I am pretty lucky because he brings us bunches when we see him.

But everyone seems to be talking about it Hershey's and Cadbury like they are the top tier chocolates...They are both mass produced to be affordable and both do what they were developed to do. Bring chocolate to the masses.

I like Hershey but if I want really good chocolate neither would be my choice because I would spend more money and go to a local chocolatier and buy the candy they make by hand.

A bit OT but I heard the other day that Nestle plans to make their chocolate with only natural ingredients soon. I don't know if it'll make it better but it sounded interesting.

Okay, so I used to love IKEA chocolate; that was one of the main reasons I went there! Great chocolate, at a great price! I would buy tons of bars at once and then hoard them But I went there recently, and the chocolate bars were just not good! They tasted really off...It makes me wonder if they've changed their recipe?

My sister gave me a Hershey's bar for my birthday it has the most revolting taste. But that isn't the worst the after taste of sick in your mouth makes the stuff horrible.

. My daughter went to school in the UK from September 2013 until June 2014. She roomed with students from Germany, Taiwan and China. They all agreed, British chocolate is awful. Their opinion not mine. All her roommates are still in Leeds, and about every 6 weeks my daughter ships a care package of Hershey Bars, Snickers, Milky Ways and Whoppers to them.
Now they also all agreed that the Chocolate in Amsterdam when they went there on a school break, was awesome.

Me, I used to be a fan of Cadbury Fudge Bars, but I could only get them in Canada.

This is so funny to me because when we lived in England, the Brits we knew always wanted us to buy them beer from the base Class 6 store. The brand they wanted was always Budweiser. With all the great beer in England, they wanted Budweiser.

Yeah, when I was in West Germany I was shocked when I talked to car buffs who lived there. They all dreamed of owning Fords and Chevys. I asked them why, given that they had BMW's and Mercedes made right there. The response from one guy put it pretty clearly. " Every taxi and police car and fleet car here is a BMW or a Mercedes, why would I want a car that everyone has?" I guess Mercedes and BMW in Germany are like Ford and Chevy here.

Hershey's is garbage.

I knew it wasn't great before, but once I tasted European chocolate I realized just how awful most of our domestic chocolate really is.
