Here's one for you (and remember, I'm a rookie): What exactly is Disney Magic??

Is everything the above posters said and so much more. It's every range of emotion from Joy (stepping into the MK, it's like returning home for me ) to Sadness (leaving the hotel to go to the airport). I try to explain it for friends and family and I think it's something that can't ever, TRULY, be explained. It's one of those things in life that must be experienced to be believed and understood completely. I'm taking my parents down for the first time and I hope that they can walk away with atleast part of the magic that I bring home with me every time. It's just something that you feel deep in your bones and more importantly, deep in your heart.

Reading everyone's responses gave me such a warm feeling inside. I agree with so much of what's been said. ::yes::

The Magic of Disney is such a powerful thing. It puts smiles on the faces of both young and old alike. It brings back fond memories of times we've shared with family and friends. It takes away our worries and troubles and lets us be carefree if only for awhile. I think we feel better, act nicer, and enjoy life more when the Magic is upon us. If only the Magic would stay in us after we leave....

Aloha! :earsgirl:

It's like entering into the setting of a really good book. Your experiences make up the storyline... and the setting is provided by Disney. A perfect 'anywhere' old time mainstreet with branches(streets) off into a 'suburbia' filled with entertainment!

Wow. Thanks for the great responses. I have never been to Disney, and I'll admit I never understood what the fascination was. My husband has been there a few times and has been trying to get me there for years. I always resisted, thinking that our lives are so hectic as it is, that I want to relax on vacation. But this year, it was my idea to finally go to Disney. We are about to start trying to have children of our own and I was just drawn to it for some reason. I can see what a great time we'll have based on your experiences, and I love reading these stories.

One confession: I got really discouraged yesterday reading that the week we're going is the busiest time of year besides Christmas and that it isn't recommended for first-timers (4/3-10). Now instead of looking forward to it, I am so worried we won't be able to see what we want or do what we want because of the crowds. I would love for someone to shed some light on what to expect. Are people still feeling happy and childlike if they're packed in like sardines? Is it really that bad when it's crowded? Am I worried for nothing?

WOW! This is a great question!

You've all said a bunch of the times I've felt it, like looking down Main Street at the castle when you first arrive, but here are the times I've witnessed it.

1) Teenagers stomping their feet and behaving completely "uncool" at the HDDR.

2)A middle aged Dad who struck up a conversation with me in Fantasy Land about just having been on the Peter Pan ride for the first time and looking so joyful I thought he was going to cry!

3) Little girls dressed like their favorite princess and then meeting "the real things".

4) A group of older women outside of Splash Mountain, soaking wet, and laughing themselves silly over "the big drop".

I think I could go onb all morning with these.....:D

Yes, the week of Easter is one of the most crowded times, unfortunately. But I believe you can and will still have a great time!

Get to the park EARLY! Use Fastpass for the popular rides. Just go with the flow. Relax and make the best of it and you'll have a wonderful time.

Disney Magic is when at Chef Mickey"s Minnie takes your 4 year old nephew by the hand to dance with him.:p :p :p :p :p :p ::MinnieMo

Disney Magic is the feeling that you have indeed stepped out of the real world and are in a whole different place. It is like the outside world does not exist.
You are in a better happier, friendlier place.

The magic is having your 13 year old act like a little kid again--holding hands with Mom and actually kissing parents in a public place! DH says that he loves to go because it's the place where DD and I just have FUN from the minute we get up until we go to sleep--and that in and of itself makes him very happy.

The magic is when you're 46 years old, fairly cynical about things, a reserved and very polite Canadian getting incredibly excited when you catch a sight of Mickey Mouse, pointing at him (and I would never point at anyone otherwise!)and yelling in a very loud, high pitched voice "There's Mickey!!!!"! Jumping up and down probably happens too.

When I'm feeling stressed, I just picture walking down Main Street towards the castle at MK and I feel the magic immediately and feel better. In a world where so many awful things are happening, I call upon this picture quite often!

People also tell me that the difference between the Disney Cruise Line and other cruise lines is the "magic"! Whereas the food, service, activities, etc. might be just as good on the other cruiselines, they just don't have that Disney magic! That's why so many people book their next Disney cruise while they're still onboard!

WDW is wonderful; don't stress about the crowds when you go. Just relax and have fun in the happiest place in the world!

Disney Magic ?

On the verandah of the Disney Magic with my daughters 4 and 7 as we are just pulling out of port canaveral.
When my 7 year old asks me If I think we might see any dolphins.
Thinking to myself no way I respond maybe.
About 2 minutes later we spot three of them swimming along side of the ship.

Magic or audioanimatronic?

Disney Magic, IMHO, is that same twinkle in everyones eyes as they go through the gates and make their way down Mainstreet USA. That same twinkle stays with you throughout your Disney vacation and even the mention of your trip or the possibility of another can bring it around again.

Magical crowds -

Hi, wdwrookie,

It will be crowded, but to me at times the crowds are part of the magic - so many happy and wonderful people to share the experience of the World with. There are very few "strangers"at WDW. Try not to rush around like the proverbial chicken, but enjoy each and everything that you can do, and hope that you will be able to return again and again.
There isn't anything I can add that hasn't already been stated in such great ways. You will find the magic when you get there, if it doesn't find you first. Have a most magical trip!!! Peg and Bob

to me is the goosebumps and chills that I get as go under the railroad station and look down Main St. towards the Castle. It happens each time. Magic is when 2 young dd's can get their father to go down Splash Mountain with them and later when you ask everyone what their favorite moment was--they all say in unison---Splash Mountain.

Check my counter----I'm heading back home next week.

is somethign that stays with you. Last night I was Channel surfing and came upon the Travel Channel (never KNEW we got the travel channel), and there it was on the screen.... Cinderella's castle, they were doing a review of WDW. My heart fluttered, and I was quickly brought back to our vacation 3 weeks ago. I yellled for DH to come quick, and he ran in only to find me staring and smiling at the TV, he walked up, kissed me on the head, and said Oct can't come soon enough for you.

Hi!
Are you staying on or off site, that way The Dis Resortoholics can help you plan.
"THE MAGIC HAPPENS!!!"

Oh Wow! This thread is giving me goosebumps.

What is the "Magic" to me?

Getting off the plane in Orlando and immediately starting to smile.

Doing things I would never do anywhere else. Last trip I played in the fountain spray at EPCOT.

Waiting to ask the front desk people at the CR a question and having someone tap me on the shoulder and that someone was Mickey Mouse!

Being in a scooter and having the CM's send me my own private full size bus for transport, not once, but THREE times (so far). Talk about customer service!

I am usually in the parks by myself. Meeting so many nice people including one family that "adopted" me and invited me to join them at MGM.

I was really sick a few years ago and had to have surgery in June. I never stopped thinking about the trip I had planned for September. Everything went well and I was able to go on that trip and the first time I saw Illuminations I was smiling with tears running down my face.

I have a fixation with one of the songs played at the EPCOT fountain. During my last two trips I made a wish that it would be the last song I heard before I had to leave to go home. Both times Standing in Motion WAS the last song I heard before I had to leave WDW.

Walt Disney World really is magic!! :D
