I do hope everyone realizes that while our discussions may get heated, I don't really want to hurt anyone's feelings.(i've ruffled some feathers)

I may disagree (strongly) with some things, but I do enjoy the fact that we are even having open discussions about all of this. I am unfortunately one of those people who love to get into these kinds of discussions. (of course, I would never want a tragedy like this to start the discussions)

And an apology to Cindyluwho for calling her post dumb. It wasn't dumb, it was valid, i'm just starting to realize that, so sorry. That was very rude of me.

That's what the Disboard is good for. Even in a heated discussion everyone lets everyone have there say.

We are all like caged animals right now. We are upset and we are angry. Scared too. Emotions are running high. Tons of things are being said (by myself included) that we don't mean right now. It shows that we are human. We are all highly agitated. It will be ok.

I am just so distraught over the hurricane devastation. I have to stop reading CNN.com and watching the news.

Nicely said. I understand that people are more sensitive and emotional right now, and that will inevitably cause stronger reactions than might seem warranted. I won't be holding any grudges against anyone for things said in the heat of the moment, and I hope no-one will hold any against me.

I will also try to be as tactful as possible when commenting on anything that might be upsetting to someone, knowing that this is a very difficult time for most of us. I am a little bit removed from this disaster since I am not American, I don't live in America, I have never visited the affected areas, and I don't know anyone personally who was directly affected by this - so I may seem too objective at times. I hope people understand that, although I am horrified, saddened and a little bit scared by what has happened, it has not begun to affect me on a really personal level yet. I probably have no clue what it feels like to be in the American Southern states right now, or in fact in America as a whole. I accept this, and if you need to remind me of this now and then, I will not be offended.

There, I've said my piece too. I feel better now!

I think for the most part nobody on these boards wants to deliberately hurt someones feelings. I've ruffled my share of feathers and gotten mine ruffled in return. I've been called "delusional" and "stupid" to name a few. We all get riled up especially when we are frustrated. Nothing wrong with a lively discussion as long as we try to do it with civility. If I've ever offended anyone on these boards, I apologize also. Hopefully we'll have some better news in the next few days to calm our nerves.

I felt like starting a post like this. I'm fairly new (well havent posted in years) to these boards and I feel like I've already ruffles feathers. It's hard to think rationally in a situation like this and it's so easy to misread people.

I too enjoy being able to discuss the situations of life and get others comments even if I don't agree with what is said, it keeps you opened minded to what you may not see! This is an awful thing and watching these children is what gets to me..... which tends to get everyone riled up! But everyone is entitled to there own opinions, and these boards lets you voice opionions!

Four times?

I can so relate to how frustrated everyone feels. I hover somewhere between enraged and crying like a baby most of the time so what I say isn't always as even-handed as I prefer. I feel downright out-of-sorts.

I planned to stay away from the DIS to avoid this terrible subject for a while but not talking about it feels even worse frankly.

babar I feel the same way you do. I don't mean to offend anyone and dislike no one, even though different people have different opinions it doesn't mean we aren't all good and decent people who would probably like each other under other circumstanses.

That is what I have always liked about posting with you. It is also a reason I said on the other post that it was hard to type the words--things just don't seem to come out correctly sometimes.
And I'm sorry that you had to find out that everyone isn't as colorbind as you thought they were. I think most people on the DIS are. I pretty much am (I have 2 very close friends who are African American) but I know how many, many poeple are around here where I live. It is scary to know people who hold such hate for others based on the color of their skin.
