My best friend at work had a computer problem. She was ordering some costumes on a website and the computer crashed. When she logged on later, her tool bar was gone at the top of the page. She can get to her documents, etc., but can't type in any web addresses. The computer tech guy is baffled and took her computer off to the lab.
So tonight she calls me. I had given her permission to log on to my computer with my name and do what she needed to do because the show she is doing is in a couple of weeks and she doesn't have a home computer. She was about to check out of the same site and MY computer crashed (this is in my classroom, BTW, not at home, thank God). When she rebooted it MY tool bar was gone! My "favorites" are there and she was able to get to my favorite sites at work by clicking on those, but now I won't be able to type in any other sites either as there is no "white bar" to type URLs in.
Obviously there is a virus on that website, which we know NOW, but does anyone have any experience with a problem like this? I can still access my grades and documents, but am worried that if they take my computer away, I'll lose that stuff too.

Can she see view at the top of the page? If so click on view, toolbars and she should be able to select address bar to bring it back.

No. Our "infopage" (with links to attendance, grades, etc.) is our home page and it opens up all the way to the top with nothing to click on top of it. Our tech guy today was just boggled. Tomorrow when we tell him she messed up my machine I am going to ask him to not look at my machine until hers is fixed so he knows how to fix it--no sense both of us being without because I was nice and let her use my computer. How would she know the website caused the mess?
My worry is seniors only have a little over 3 weeks left. I am catching up on some grading now, but have 3 more weeks of scores to input. I don't even OWN a calculator anymore; hope I don't have to figure things out the old fashioned way!

Try F11 to switch it from "opening all the way up to the top" (full screen mode).

You can try it at the computer your currently sitting at to see what it does. F11 is a toggle.

That should show all your toolbars. If any are still missing (address bar, eg), right click on the toolbar and select the bars you want visible.

Hope this helps.

This is going to sound stupid - but it's common.

See how at the top of your screen you'd normally have your address bar, then GO, then Links...

Between eeach *category* is a line, which if you hover over, you can expand that section, larger / smaller / etc. (hover until it's an arrow, click and drag)

Make sure your address bar isnt just so super smooshed down, it disappeared....this happens A LOT on the calls I get. Hover up there, and s4ee if you cant expand it.

Our tech guys fixed it today. They said the website probably tried to download something it shouldn't have, and as a result our personal settings/profiles on internet explorer were messed up. Don't ask what they did, but it wasn't simple--he was on my machine 20 minutes. We are not allowed to download any software so it reacted badly to this website.
The only thing I lost were the 2 Disney pictures I had added to my desktop from the internet.
