Here now and no towel animals!

I don't get the whole fascination with towel animals, but to each their own! It's certainly not something that I would ever consider complaint-worthy. :confused3 That's not what I'm looking forward to when I go to Disney. :thumbsup2

On my list of the Top 100 things I love about WDW, Towel Animals are conspiciously absent.

On my list of the Top 1000 things I would complain about, either in person or online, it's also missing.

If the news from Boston and Texas and China over the last week has taught us anything at all, it should be that life's too short to sweat the small stuff like towel animals.

Couldn't agree more. Well put!

When we go and stay in Niagara, and pay for an upper level fallsview room, it doesn't SAY on the room listing that I will be valet parked, nor that a bellhop is going to take my bags up to my room, but if I am paying $500 a night for the room, yur damn right I expect it.

And they will do this at any of the Disney deluxe resorts. When you stay in the Niagara hotel do you go complain to the manager when you don't get towel animals there?:rolleyes2

There are a lot of very expensive hotels here where they valet park you because they do not have any onsite parking and you pay a daily fee for parking in addition to tipping the valet. I have never heard of anyone complaining at these hotels because they weren't provided with towel animals.

We have stayed at the Poly four times and have had towel animals at least once or twice each time. Would I be disappointed if we didn't get any? Of course not, I don't expect them and I really don't care if we get them or not.

We stayed at BWI this week and did not get any either. At the POR riverside the kids got two puppies and an octopus and were so happy :)

We stayed at POR last year for 11 days. One of my sons joys was coming back to the hotel after a day in the park; and, being surprised by what housekeeping did that day. We had many towels made into animals and there was even a car. Some had stickers on them. The cutest thing they did was to position my son's stuffed animals in a different spot every day. One day, they had them peeking out the window. Just thinking about it makes me smile. We made sure to go to the front desk and let them know how appreciative we were. We did not know this then but later found out each time you go to guest services and compliment a particular disney employee, it goes in their file. Apparently, it helps them when they are trying to move into better positions.

Disney is known for there hospitality. They train there staff to extremes in providing good service. I have a girlfriend, who worked for disney many years ago and she told me a funny story about how they are trained to point. You can not point with one finger,(it is seen as a rude gesture) you have to use two or three fingers (cant remember which) and you have to gesture a specific way. This is a perfect example of how much thought goes into every detail.

That being said we all have different opinions about the money we pay for a stay and whether we should be entitled to that service or not. I personally don't think either side is wrong or right. There is validity to both points of view. What I find disappointing is when someone comments in a sarcastic or rude manner towards another poster, simply because they post something you do not agree with. Wasn't it thumper or his mother, who said, if you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all?

Anyways, I bet if you went to the front desk and graciously asked, if there was any possibility to have an animal made and left one morning they would oblige.

Have a magical vacation! pixiedust:

We've only had towel animals on one of our trips, several years ago. I have just assumed they didn't do them any more.

And thank you, maybe I didn't get this across, maybe I don't have the gift with words that you do, but this is exactly what I was trying to convey.

I know the first thing I look for when booking a deluxe resort is the towel animal to guest ratio.

This is an amusing thread for me. I have never had towel animals at Disney resorts, Deluxe or otherwise. When I go to the resort websites and they show them in pictures of the rooms, I think it's something new. Thanks for the information. It is very helpful to my expectations for next time.

I have to agree, we have actually used them as......... towels before. ::yes::

And I agree with the both of you. Of course it's not expected, but it's part of the whole disney experience you pay to stay onsite for. It's the little things - like towel animals, or the Mickey wake up call - that sets disney apart from just a regular hotel. And yes, we've gotten them before and it puts a smile on the kids (and adults!) faces to come back at the end of the day to them.

Has Disney or The Boardwalk done away with towel animals?? My girls love them and created decorated envelopes for mousekeeping before we left home. Each morning they have added a little note on the front saying "towel animals please" but still we have not received any in 5 days. My DH says it is because we are not leaving enough. Each envelope just has $5 in it which I thought seemed enough for the 4 of us as we are also leaving the room quite clean each morning. Is he right? So far the location of the boardwalk we love but that is all unfortunately so was just wondering if this is common here?
This is a good opportunity to teach your daughter how to focus on all the positives in life and to not dwell on the negatives. I'm sure there are plenty of positives to be thankful for at Disney. Point those out!

You can't say that towel animals are not expected and then say it is part of what you pay for staying on site. I do get you are saying they are part of the on site magic, but a lot of the magic loses any value when people start to expect and demand it.

In order to enjoy the Disney magic you have to be ready to embrace it when it happens. You can't demand it. And once you start expecting it, it loses a lot of it's luster. Towel animals are a nice extra done by housekeeping IF they have the ability, and WHEN they have the time. They are not part and parcel of having a room on Disney property. And people demanding them have cheapened them a bit. Made them not as magical as when they just showed up.

The difference between a spoiled child demanding a bunch of birthday presents, and one being happy just to get them.

Well, by that way of thinking the Disboards shouldn't exist either.

No, that's not what I meant, I guess I wasn't clear.

My point was that, given the events of the last days (and longer than that-- some of my friends still don't have houses after Hurricane Sandy) sometimes we need to step back and look at the big picture.

Are Towel Animals a nice treat? Sure, they give us a quick smile.

But are they important in the larger scheme of things? Even in the scheme of trip-planning things??

Not to me. Others will disagree, but my take on it is that they're a nice little gesture, not something larger than that.

Oh I am fully familiar, but that doesn't mean I would settle for 'sufficient' service at that price. But part of that is also caused by the passivity of the consumer.

But, how does not receiving a towel animal equate to insufficient service?? :confused3:confused3

Personally, I would prefer that mousekeeping concentrate on cleaning and maintaining rooms, rather than making towel animals.

I've never had issues with mousekeeping and have always had a clean room (on the surface). But I'm a big time bed bug checker, and when you start looking behind beds, under beds, etc... You realize some areas are either not dusted or vacuumed properly. For me, these are minor issues and I do not complain, but I hope that the making of towel animals does not take time away from routine maintenance of rooms.

When we went to AKL in 2010 we had lots of towel animals. Last year
In may we stayed at beach club and got none. Doesn't bother me one way or the other :)

You can't request towel animals, and leaving tips is no guarantee that you will get them.

Towel animals are not standard in any level of resort.
