Yeah, that was my later experiences with Freecycle. When the "want" list moved into "working hot tubs, vehicles with low mileage", I unsubscribed.

Sad...because I had great success with Freecycle back in '04 when moving from MI to FL. Granted, I put my stuff "out there" but everyone seemed genuine and happy to score it, rather than "asking". If they profitted (I'm too lazy to spell) good for them.

You know, I could understand *A* motorcycle, if you needed transportation to get to work. It would still be a lot to ask for, but maybe someone out there has one that needs work or whatever maybe if you put it in those terms. "Need motorcycle or small vehicle to get to work, anything that runs is fine" but to specify a Harley.... I dont know.

I know, right? I have been looking for an old Mac monitor for DS, he has a deal with one of our neighbours where he trades lawn mowing for old computer parts. he got his first Mac last night and needs a monitor to go with it. When I say old I mean saving it from the landfill old. Cam is really getting into rebuilding computers so I help him search for parts.

I am currently selling a Jeep on CL, and have gotten more than 30 emails from people whining about why they need my Jeep for free. I am getting a LOT of sob story emails. I was unaware that CL had become such a place. I got one about a guy who lost his job & got evicted and wanted to "borrow" my jeep to move!


Seriously, the emails are ridiculous. ANd infuriating! I can't afford to give it away, thank you! Do these people send these emails to every single person selling a car?> That is what I was wondering.

My goodness. That is just beyond the pale. If you wanted to give it away you would have stated so. People are just lazy sometimes.

I've seen some doozies on our local freecycle, although craigslist usually wins the 'I can't believe they're asking for that' contest. Right now is the usual wanted lists for tv's, dvd and vcr players, furniture (new if possible of course) and offers to let you outfit their new apartment. Vehicles pop up frequently, as do gaming systems like Wiis or Playstations because those are needs right?

We've recycled a lot of stuff we didn't need through freecycle and craigslist, but I admit sometimes the wish lists make me go

I was selling something for $5.00 just to get rid of it and the person wanted ME to drive to HER neighborhood, several miles away. For $5.00? I don't think so!

I quit freecycle last year. I never asked or recieved anything. I just gave stuff away.
When we got a new bedroom suite, I posted my beautiful brass bed(it was special to me, sentimental, first thing I had bought when I moved out of parents). I knew it would be free, but I didn't need it.
I got a bunch of sob stories, but gave it to the first responder, who was of COURSE an older infirm lady who was sleeping on the floor and had many illnesses, blah blah blah.
She sent her husband to pick it up. He didn't bring a tie down strap, it was pouring down rain, and he had a bad back and couldn't lift anything. My husband loaded it up, gave him a tarp to cover it, and that was it.
I NEVER got a thank you email. Never heard from the lady again, until a month later. I saw my bed at a flea market. I know it was my bed. It actually had my intials on the back of the headboard.
They were asking $500.
I know we agree to give stuff away, but I was so insullted, I unsubscribed.
