Henna Tattoos?

My DD11 has wanted a henna tattoo forever. I told her she can get one in Epcot and she squealed. She plans on spending her whole $50 spending money on an elaborate henna tattoo that will probably wash off before we even leave for home. I will tell her to rub some Vaseline on it before she gets wet to help prevent it from washing off. I saw where someone else mentioned that.

Epcot is the only place at Disney where you can get henna. Though, they do have temporary tattoos at HS and Downtown Disney. Downtown Disney also has airbrush. If you get one, get it in a place that isn't rubbed a lot by clothing. I got one on my wrist once, and it lasted a little over a month.

Here is mine on my hand from EPCOT. This was right after she did it which is why its still sparkly. I did not see these anywhere on the Boardwalk when we stayed there last fall.

OOOH! I love it! :cloud9:Do you remember how much it cost?

This is about 7 days after I got my henna tattoo at Epcot. I paid $65 or $70, I think, and I asked the artist to do whatever she would like to do.

Mine was either $25 or $28, can't remember exactly. It lasted about a week with the part on my hand fading quicker than the part on my wrist, I assume due to hand washing.

Don't worry; henna tattoos do not actually "wash off" ... they have to fade.

The actual henna material that gets squeezed out of the little cone does wash off (it's supposed to dry, first), but it actually stains the skin which must then wear off. The skin coloring will last for about two weeks; less if you're repeatedly bleaching your skin with high-chlorine pool water.

But, you don't have to worry about washing it off in the bathroom like those "temporary tattoos."

If I understand this correctly; henna stains your skin to make the tatoo. How long do you need to leave it on to get a decent stain? Does the tat artist remove the henna stuff or is that something I would need to do?
This sounds awesome..better than the airbrush ones that wash off way too quickly!
Thanks for any additional info! BTW-loved looking at the pics from those who have some.

In the picture that I posted, the Henna had not peeled off yet. Its kind of like a gel. You need to let it dry and peel off on its own. If you pick at it, the stain won't take as well. I think mine peeled off in about an hour or so. My memory is sketchy as I'd consumed a few tangarine mimosa's (the drinks in the background) that night.

You don't have to remove anything. The henna will dry up and fall off on its own over the course of the day. I had henna done on my feet at Epcot and I was told not to wash it that night, but to wash normally the next day. It lasted two or three weeks.

It took about a day for the "skin" to fall off of mine. I put my arm in a plastic garbage bag that night, but washed normally and did everything else normally the rest of the trip. It gradually just faded away.

And, yep, I plan to repeat the experience when I go back in September. I may even ask if I can get one done on my face.

So letme get this straight:
They range in price
The dont wash off, they fade
They are only done in EPCOT
They take a day for the gel to fall off

Oh and ONE MORE THING (Probably the most important) After our day at EPCOT,4 days later we go to Blizzard Beach. So should I put Vaseline on the henna? Or not even get a tattoo at all? My DD wants one to and she is FREAKING OUT :headache: until she knows for sure.

So letme get this straight:
They range in price - yes
The dont wash off, they fade - yes
They are only done in EPCOT - Morocco
They take a day for the gel to fall off - about that. everyone is a little different.

Get the tattoo and use vaseline when you go to Blizzard Beach. Have fun! :cool1:

Are you guys sure about the whole Vaseline thing??? I've never gotton one done before (Odviously, based on the questions I'm asking!!!) Does it just slow down the fading or does it STOP the chlorine from fading it all together:confused3

I'm sure someone else can give you their experience with vaseline. I'm sure it helps, but I think you might be worrying more than you need to.

I didn't know anything about the vaseline trick, so we didn't use anything. My DD got hers about mid-way through a 10 day trip. She showered daily and went in the pool a few times. The picture of her tattoo (posted on pg 1) was taken on our last day-- so maybe 4-5 days after it was done. It also lasted for a while (maybe a week?) after we got home so she was able to show it to all her friends.

They sell a little tub of some kind of Henna Beeswax protectant, in the little shop next to the tattoo's for a few bucks. It stays on better than the greasy vaseline, and isn't as messy.

Edit - or just buy some of this, and use it on your lips, too. Or dry, cracked heels. Or to slick flyaway hair ends. Or on dry cuticles. Or on your toes, to freshen up the look of your pedi. (Can you tell I love this stuff? Handy, handy, handy to have in Disney World......) http://www.rosebudsalve.com/e-commerce-solutions-catalog.html
