Barry Manillow his website will double what ever donation you give, i donated 100.00 so it ends up being 300.00 , you cant go wrong there. go to www.barrynet.com then there is a red link on the first page and it explains how he will double it, so it become 3 times the original amount.
check it out. i waited to donate because i knew some celebs would do something like double or tripple donations. so i gave to red cross , then i found out i think thru ellen degeneres show that barry manillow was doing double donation of what every you contribute so i did it. I feel so bad for these people i cant imagine what they are going thru

Please folks don't donate to people and organizations you don't know! Fraud is rampant even during this tragedy! It happened after 9/11 also. The FBI has caught and shut down 600 fake websites already! There is such a serious need please donate through your church, school or Red Cross! That way you are assured the money and itmes are going where the need is. Otherwise you may be subsidizing someones Disney trip!

I highly doubt Ellen degeneres would scam people into telling them to go to barry manillows website and donate money, but yes there are numerous scams going on and you do have to be careful, but if it is a legitimate site which you can probably get the same link for barry manillow on ellen degeneres site, it would be best to donate to a celeb that is trippling your donation that is what i did.

Thank you to everyone who is donated anything, even your prayers. I live about 20 west of New Orleans. My house faired out okay (just lost electricity and stuff for a week), but some of my family did not fair out as well.


Please keep the victims in your thoughts and prayers. I am glad that fellow DISers are helping.

I understand that some people are out there to scam others during such a horrible time, but I resent the fact that this was posted under my post. I have NO desire to get any monetary gain from such a tragedy. I teach 7th graders who were definitely affected by this and my husband and I are youth pastors who are working closely with shelters who are housing very POOR people from Orleans parish and surrounding areas who are unable to go out and get things for themselves. They rely on places like OUR church to bring things to them. The Red Cross has never shown up at 2 of the shelters we are supplying, so if it were not for the generosity and goodness of people donating supplies to our church, these people would be doing without. I'm not sure if you realize the magnitude of this situation. The Red Cross and Salvation Army cannot get to everyone. I have in NO WAY solicited on this board. I simply stated facts, and I assure you, if anything does come to our church or my home, it will get PERSONALLY delivered to the TRUE victims of this catastrophe. And if anyone sends anything it is toothpaste, diapers, etc. I don't think I could use that much in a lifetime. Give me a break! May God Bless all those who are doing their part (through the Red Cross, Barry's site and others), and I do encourage you to watch out for scams, but there are those of us here in Louisiana who are seeing this first hand, and I just can't sit by and watch people do without.

This is not about you, the person posted a warning, and people can post anywhere they like, so you can resent all you want. Some people are not aware that people are cruel and mean and try to take advantage of others, this post was to help out and about donations, it is very important that peopl know to beware fake scams and websites, it is common sense that Ellen is reputable, and her information is valid. We on these boards care and when we give money we want to make sure it is going to help those in need. People realize how big this is, but when you have some elderly people who want to help out they are trusting and people need to be educated about fakes. The main point is giving and beware of fraud, and making sure it reaches the correct place, nothing else matters. I lost my husband in 9/11 and there were so many scams out there,

I am sorry you were offended and sorrier you and your friends were affected by this disaster. That said, you did post your Email address and I had just heard a warning on CNN about fake charities. They are rampant. Many people will give their last dime and I only want to make sure those affected actually get that dime.
I hope the Red Cross has gotten to you by now! Where exactly are you?

I do realize that people are scammed. My grandparents were scammed at one time. I was not attacking anyone. It's just that seeing this first hand, it is so hard to sit back and do nothing, well, it's impossible. I do apologize if anyone felt that I was attacking anyone. That was NOT my intention. We are in Livingston Parish (about 45 min. from New Orleans). Our population has doubled since Katrina, due to the numerous shelters here. These people have NO where to go, and it is just awful. Again, I apologize, and I direct you to give to the Red Cross and other reputable charities. But most of all, we need PRAYER. God can do what we cannot.
