Helpful Information For You Updated 03/30/2012

I forgot to mention that the HUGE Dinosaur store will be opened within a month and you REALLY REALLY need to take the kids AND the adults kids to see it. They are finishing up the landscape and it is going to be awesome.
It will be so interesting and so much history to take in and besides that if the kids are bored etc, what a way to intertain them.
Will keep you posted.

Hey Shirley-
Will Milliken's be open for business this Friday night?

Sorry I haven't been on the board, but had some illness in the family and couldn't find time to get on.
anyhow promised I would comment on the new restaurant opened up at the port and here is my thoughts and feelings

Good morning all and hope everyone is having a great weekend start and enjoying getting ready for their cruise.
Anyhow I promised that I would give thoughts on the new restaurant that opened up at the port called Milligan's Reef. Norm and I decided to go last evening and see what it was all about. At one time stood a great restaurant called Captain Ed's and their food, decorations, view etc was outstanding and for some reason, one day it closed down and the building torn down and stayed an empty lot for years.
Anyhow when Norm and I got there around 7PM, the place was packed and parking was difficult to find, but we did find parking and ventured in. We were seated within 10 minutes by the port viewing window and next to the grand piano (I was thrilled since I love the sound of the piano). Our wait began but meanwhile due to the very high ceilings, the noise escalated into what was almost impossible to stand or make enjoyable. We sat with an empty glass in front of us until I asked the bus boy if he could get us a glass of water. After 30 minutes we did get a waitress attention and were waited on.
We spent a total time of 2 hours there and finally got our food after an hour, but found it was not worth the wait.
Now I did get to speak to the owners and they realize there are many things that has to be worked out including there is no refills on any of the drinks such as tea, sodas, coffee etc except water. The noise is overbearing and these things I mentioned appears to be the main concern of the guests.
I believe it is a great hangout for the younger generation for they do have a nice lounge area and the tiki huts are great. The view of the water is awesome.
Norm and I have decided to wait for a couple of months and then go back just to see if it has improved.
I would like to think that they will get all the wrinkles worked out and it could prove to be a nice place to go.
I feel it needs to be seen by different generations since I am looking at it through "more" mature eyes LOL.
Anyhow this comment was just my own feelings and thoughts and I feel they will change as time goes. Its like any new establishment - has to get the wrinkles out.

Do you know if the electric carts that you rent in Key West have to be reserved ahead of time, or can we just do that once we get there? We haven't decided for sure yet if we want to do this and were thinking of waiting till we get there to decide. Is the place where you rent the carts far to walk to, or do they come to meet you at the pier?

Shirley, thank you SO much for this thread!

Never mind the question - you'd already posted the answer :)

Can you please update the link in the first post for the Conch electric cars to read http://www.conchelectriccars.com/ instead of .net? Thanks!

Hey Shirley, I'm cruising again Nov. 22nd. I need to order a basket. When do you want me to call you?

Thanks,
Teresa
from New Jersey

Shirley,

Looking forward to getting my basket's next month. I'll try to remember to take a picture but since I know my DD's will tear into them I'd better be quick.

I wanted to let everyone know that Fishlips does not take reservations for parties of less than 10 and Grills takes 8 or more but not after 5PM. I was making it for Friday night so it may just be the weekend. They both will let you call ahead to be put on the waitlist.

Something that may need checked into again is the refueling fee for cars returned to Port Canaveral (even MCO)
When we rented in May, both locations topped off the tank for a flat fee if the miles used were less than 75 (it is less than 75 miles between Port Canaveral and MCO) at the time the fuel charge was ~the same as topping the tank myself.

Just something to consider if you don't want to drive around looking for a gas station or if you are short on time. HTH

UPDATE 09/03/2008

LaQuinta http://www.lq.com/lq/properties/prop...=27&y=11
Ok we now have more information on LaQuinta Inn. I just found out that a dear friend of mine is now working there and has given me this information especially for all of those that that written or called me for answers.

La Quinta now offers upscale Continental breakfast buffet which includes waffles, eggs, sausages, bacon, muffins and fruits and this is included with your room.
They offer shuttle service for $4.00 per person one way and they also have park and cruise and includes the shuttle service also.
If you have any problems or questions, you can contact Judy Hutcherson at 321-783-2252 Ext. 603 or you can email her at lq0622dos@laquinta.com

It's taken me some time to post this, and for that I apologize, but shortly after Shirley posted this, I contacted Judy at La Quinta, mentioned Shirley and the DIS Forum, and got a really great rate for January 16th of next year. Judy also sounds like a really neat person, and was very helpful on other things. I'll report back on how we enjoyed our stay. BTW, we're renting a car, so will not be using their shuttle.

Best regards,
Richard
