I have lots of points that will expire may 31 and have never transfered or sold points. Can anyone tell me how they arrange payment before either making reservation or transfer and can I transfer into someones account if they have a diffrent use month? Thanks for any help :rolleyes1

Hi. I'm interested in about 90 points for OKW in April 2005. Please look for my email.

Thanks,

John

You are going to have to be really careful, or you are going to get stuck with points.

Yes, you can transfer points to another member account, even if their account is a different use year. However, your points retain their use year, so they still expire when they expire. You can't transfer points to avoid expiration. (Walt Disney was born at night, but not LAST night!)

You can certainly rent your points, but you need to understand the process -- especially your exposure in the process. To rent points, you have to research and reserve the accommodation under your account...which will be no easy task considering the season you are in, and the last-minute nature of these transactions. You then send the confirmation to the renter, and they pay you. Many DVC members accept personal checks for these rentals -- and do so without any problems -- but that may not be prudent for you. This late in your use year, a bounced check could cause you to lose the points.

Most renters and DVC owners who rent points are very reputable people, but "stuff" does happen and plans do change...even for reputable people. If the renter decides to cancel, you could end up losing the points entirely, so you need to understand all the ins and outs of cancellations within 31 days and "points in holding status." Even a cancellation 60 days out could cause you to lose points, so you have a lot more risk in last-minute rentals.

The short story is, you are probably best advised to rent your points on a strict "all sales final - no cancellations or refunds" basis. If someone cancels, and you can work something out for them - great. But if not, you can't be the one to take the fall. Obviously, they need to understand that up front. That is not workable for some folks, but renting points is not workable for everyone in the first place.

Did you bank what you could? If your UY is June, then you can bank 1/2 of your points on Monday, Feb 28th. That is the last day for you to bank 50%.
