My wife and I along with our 12 year old son we will be Orlando for two weeks the first of July...We can't decide between the 10-Day Disney Pass and the 14-Day flex ticket?

What do you want to do? The Orlando Flex ticket covers just about every theme park except the Disney parks so if you don't want to go to Disney, the Flex ticket would be a great deal. If you want to do Disney...not so much.

We are not sure...Do you think the Disney stuff will be a little to "Baby" for a12 year old boy?

Well...not all of it is baby stuff. Does your son like coasters and more thrilling rides? If so you would be better off sticking with the Flex ticket. If he doesn't like rides like that, stick with Disney.

He really does love rides....
What about the crowds and heat during July?

The heat and crowds are bad in the summer...I don't go to any of the parks in summer and I live here.

It will be hot a humid and all the parks will be very crowded :thumbsup2

All this about July and so many people are is making me have 2nd thoughts about Orlando in July.

Our vacations are always June and July since thats the only time my wife can get off work and while it is hot and crowded we always get everything we want to do done and have fun and even met up with some friends here on the boards and now we hate it if we can't plan to go in July just to see them :thumbsup2

Let's put it this way...If I had to choose between coming in July or Christmas week, I would choose Christmas week mainly because of the weather. The crowds are still hideous but at least you aren't melting.

If you can arrange another time of year then I would. I wouldn't brave those crowds and that heat if I had another option. That being said, as others on here have indicated, you can go that time of year and have a good time. I would consider it essential to get there for rope drop, tour all morning getting the busiest rides done first, eat lunch, and head back to the hotel. Plan to take a nap, swim and rest during the worst heat of the day (also the busiest time in the park). Eat dinner at your hotel and head back to the park as it's cooling off and crowds are thinning out. Frequently an afternoon storm will pass through and cool things off before you go back to the park. You do not want to be in the parks at the hottest part of the day in July! Misery! And I am from hot, humid, South Louisiana!

Also, if your son has never done Disney, I can't see skipping it! Is there any way you could do a week at each? I know that is more expense, but Disney is an experience every kid should have, and the rides at Universal will appeal to him as well. I have an 11 y/o son and he loves Disney! This Tuesday he will get his first Universal experience!

OP we typically do a summer trip last week of June or July. it's hard to comprehend how much hotter/humid July feels vs June:confused3absolutely oppressive...yet again i return lemming-like this year.:cool2:

You should try mid august it's even worse! We went March, September, and October last year.... it was chilly in jeans and sweater weather in march, PERFECT in September, and chilly only at night in October. Needless to say I will never, EVER, go during July or August EVER again. My family hates crowds though...

It's all in the way you look at it. If you go into it with a good attitude you will be fine. If you go into it saying "we're going to have a horrible time because of the weather" well you will.

Make sure you stay hydrated! This will make or break your vacation. Dehydration is a terrible feeling and even worse when you're spinning around in circles  Make sure you wear good shoes. Wear light and loose clothes. By light I mean weight and color. Wearing black on the hottest day of the year... probably not a good idea.;) Take full advantage of the AC shops taking 10 minutes out every so often will save your sanity. And over all just try and take it as easy as possible i.e. dont tell yourself you're going to do everything in one day. Have a "must do list" and if some other stuff doesnt get done... then it doesnt get done. It's not worth feeling terrible at the end of the day..

Oh and I almost forgot SUNSCREEN!:) you have now gotten the TinyDancer preparedness guide.

Personally I don't think anyone is ever too old for Disney. My husband and I first went when we were taking our 5 year old for the first time, and I don't know who had the most fun. I love Disney! We all do! But I love Universal too! The best thing about Universal is staying at one of their resorts and having front of the line priveleges all day every day. If you do not have to wait in line, then the heat is not as oppresive because all of the indoor rides are air conditioned, so you stay cool most of the time. And if you want to take the afternoon off for a dip in the pool at your resort, it is in walking distance. Whichever one you do you will love it and want to go back again and again, but do one this year, and the other next year. Either way, believe me, you will not be disappointed.
