A lady at my office saw a handmade card that I did and now she wants me to make 75 cards for her! I've never done this before and have no idea how to price it out. Anyone have a clue? I know that occasionally I will go to a Stampin Up! class and my consultant charges $15 (plus an additional $5 if she makes them for me) for 8 cards. This works out to $2.50 a card - does that seem high for me to charge? :confused3 I was kinda thinking $150 for 75 cards - your thoughts? Thanks!

You need to price out how much paper you are going to use up, how much are the embellishments going to cost you, what will it cost you to replace the ink you will be using up AND then how much time is it going to take you.

Do not sell yourself short. Make sure you get a deposit that will cover the cost of supplies.

I agree with AlexWyattMommy, make sure that you are covered in your expenses and remember you have to charge for your time as well. Depending on how detailed and how many embellishments you use, I believe $2/card sounds fair (if your time and supplies are covered). Also remember to find out if she expects you to provide envelopes, you'll need to take that into consideration too.

I also agree about getting some sort of deposit at least for the supplies up front.

Good luck!

I am a SU demonstrator, have sold some individual cards for $2 and $2.50 each at events and felt I was covered in supplies and time.

Make sure you get at least 50% deposit before starting the work.

Would you charge per hour or a percentage of the cost of supplies?

Believe it or not, this is what I do! I make cards, invites and the like. Phew. (I actually have to do a Bridal Shower and quote out a Baby Shower today!)

Here is what I do when someone hires me. I add up the cost of all of my supplies and add at least 20%. More if it was harder to get. Then I add in a labor charge. The more time I have to handle the item, the higher the charge. Wedding invites are in the $1.25 per package range, and invites are around $.50. Then I charge for shipping and handling. I know it seems like a lot to charge $2.50 but you are a providing a quality handmade card. I usually give a quote before hand so that they know what it will cost before I make them!

Good luck! Assemby is tedious but so easy to do in front of the TV! :rolleyes1

Thanks everyone - it's funny - I don't have an issue paying to go make them myself at a Stampin Up! party but when it comes to actually asking someone to pay me to do something I enjoy doing I feel weird.

I know what you mean. After a while, though, you get over that feeling. It is nice to get paid for something that you like to do.:cutie:

After you do 75 of them, you might find you don't enjoy making them quite as much! Really, I agree with AlexWyattMommy, don't sell yourself short.

You'll need to set yourself up a "conveyor belt" to speed up or it will take you a LONG time. Over here, you can buy handmade cards in the shops and they START at £2.25 (around $4.50 at the current exchange rate), and that's for a small one with just maybe a topper on it and no words! Larger can be £3.99 ($8) or more) You are saving her time and gas by doing this, don't forget.
