Will anyone please help me? I am very new to all this. I started my Disney Pin collection last week. My son and I were amazed at how many people are involved in trading pins. Where do we start? What do we do? What should we know before getting into a jam? Any advice please contact me. Thanks in advance

Welcome to the DIS, pfishgirl, and the DIS Collectors Board.

You've found a great community of traders here, all willing to help each other out. Don't be afraid to ask questions or for advice.

It's always nice to welcome someone new to the friendly, fun, exciting world of pin collecting/trading!

I am pretty new still myself--about 5 months now. I am still learning and evolving. My advice to you is SET A BUDGET. It's so overwhelming in the beginning, and trading privately at pin meets or over the boards or through pinpics can require a lot more/different kind of pin inventory than trading off of lanyards at the parks. It is very easy to want to be right in the thick of things and to do that you may find yourself wanting to buy a lot of pins, which is why I said set a budget. There are several ways to buy, including e-bay, and e-bay can be a good source, but do some observing of auctions first. New pins usually start out pretty high, but then come down in price as time goes by, and new pins come out. I like to go to "going, going, gone," and sometimes find good bargains on some pins that people have just missed.

Pinpics.com is an excellent resource to learn about pins--it's a database of well over 6000 pins, and you can learn what kind of pins you like, what kind of pins are hard to find, etc. Dizpins.com, and Dizneypins. com are both great sources for what pins are new/being released, as well as having archives of older pins release during the past months that you can look at. Dizpins also has a sale board and trading board, as well as our Disboard having a trading board.

I hope this is a good start; lots of other people will chime in with advice too. Do not hesitate to start any new thread with any other questions that might come up along the way.

Good luck, have fun, and welcome to the group!:)

Let me join the chorus of WELCOME!
First rule-----Have fun
Second rule- only collect pins with a certain theme(s) that you like. For example - I collect Fantasia, Maleficent, Pooh, Figment, and hot air balloons. If you don't do this and without the above mentioned Budget....you'll go broke and insane.

It never hurts to ask questions.
Lastly, BEWARE! If a trade doesn't feel right, or you are getting pressured into trading, say "No thank you" and walk away. There are what we affectionately call SHARKS in this pin trading pool.

I posted my story on another thread, but here it is again:

I was in front of the Liberty Tree Tavern and a man came up to me and wanted to trade for one of my pins. Well, I just got it and didn't want to trade, so after some very funny bantering I went on my way, and was sitting on the curb at main street waiting for the parade. They announced that the Grand Marshal today is the National Leagues MVP, holder of the home run record yada yada yada... then who should drive by in the Grand Marshal car.... My pin guy... just happened to be Barry Bonds. Can you believe it. LOL

ps. prior to this, I didn't know who he was. LOL
