This past saturday I spent the day (2pm to 10pm) at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. My son and I got to ride all the rides we wanted and saw most of the shows. The coasters were great (especially Apollos Chariot :teeth: ) Unfortunately we were wiped out by the end of the day.

Sunday I had trouble dragging myself out of bed before 10 am.

We have APs for Busch Gardens and this is the 4th time weve been this year. All the other times we have gone in the mornings and left by 4 or 5 and never been this tired. Of course we didnt do as many attractions.

My concern is trying to do WDW in 5 days in August. If I had trouble with just one day will we really enjoy our trip? Or does the magic help sustain the pace? Are there any suggestions about keeping the stamina up. We will be staying at CSR and are planning the afternoon breaks but I am afraid we may be so tired we will not get back to the parks in the evening.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Fluids. Fluids. Fluids.

Slushies. Popsicles, Etc.

AVOID caffeine and alcohol. Withdraw before the trip, or at least decrease intake significantly. These will really burn you out.

Plan for cooler hours. Unfortunately, Fla gets pretty hot in the AM, but it's a little cooler up until about 11. The nicest time is after 7.

Pay attention to your body. If you need a break, take it.

I think 5 days is plenty of time :) There are quite a lot of shows in the parks, where you can rest inbetween rides. Plus a lot of the rides are indoors and air-conditioned, which may help keep you refreshed and out of the sun (I imagine that walking around in the heat is what will make you most tired in August!) Just keep drinking lots of water and feel free to take breaks. I think 5 days to see 4 parks is very do-able with taking breaks- and anyway If you dont see everything this time- it just gives you an excuse to come back another time! :D

Have a great time! :teeth:

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming.................REST is for when you get home...........

We are always "dog tired" when we get home.................but it does seem like "something" always keeps you going at WDW........maybe it is the magic........................:teeth: :hyper: :teeth: :hyper: :teeth: :hyper:

In Aug. it will be hot, hot, hot and very humid, but you can still enjoy yourself. We always carry bottles of water and refill them as we need to. Plus we get slushies and other cool treats during the day.

The Disney parks are a lot different then your typical theme park. Most regular theme parks are mostly outdoors, can't escape the heat. Disney has most of their rides and even some of the queues for the rides in ac so that really helps a lot.

You also have lots of shows to get off your feet for a good 20 minutes.

In Aug. park hours are longer so REALLY take the breaks. It is easy to get around WDW, so go in the AM, stay until 11 or 12 and then leave for a few hours to rest or swim, then go back to the parks. I swear by this on shorter trips.

5 days should be plenty of time to take breaks and still enjoy a ton of things at WDW. Will you see everything? Probably not, but you just have things to look forward to next time. Start by making a list for each park of things you really must see and if you have time for the other things do them.

Good luck and have a great trip!

Why the pre-occupation with seeing all, doing all and - in some cases - singing all? You are there to relax and have a fun, wonderful time! If you feel tired, go and sit down or call it a day! There is no sense either in planning out a day as if you were a Drill Instructor or in forcing yourself to go round the entire park; that isn't the Disney spirit :)

My son, myself, and our various traveling companions tour a little differently than most others. We spend the morning at the pool or sleeping late (in my son's case) and head for the parks in time to stop for a late lunch. We usually pick a place for a sit down lunch in the park or a nearby resort. We then spend time in the parks until closing. If we're tired we arrive later or leave earlier. Seven to eight hours in the parks are enough for us each day. We've been so many times we don't feel the need to see and do everything. Sometimes we hit a park for our favorites, parades, or fireworks. If we only want to spend a few hours in a park we might go earlier than normal, return to the hotel, and then hit another park after having dinner somewhere.

We almost always work in a slug day mid trip. We spend it at the resort sleeping or lounging around the pool. We might make a trip to Downtown Disney. We do vary this when something special is going on like Starwars weekends this June. We'll be in the park early Friday morning! We also try to take advantage of e-night when possible so we can get our fill of the big rides in Magic Kingdom. We only do this once unless it's an extra crowded e-night. Most I've participated in had very little wait time.

Anyway, we try to remember it's our vacation and WDW will still be there next time we head south!

Another thing to keep in mind is that WDW isn't nearly as hilly as BG.
ITA!!! There are no major hills like the one beside the Loch Ness Monster to have to walk up when your legs feel like jelly!!!:p

If you begin a walking regiment between now and the time you leave- you will also see your stamina increase. It's amazing to me how much better I feel when I have walked regulary before a trip vs. the times I don't!

I second what karebear1 said:
Generally a few months before a trip to WDW I start walking at my lunch break, generally a half of an hour. After awhile I add a half of an hour to 45 minute walk at night. It is amazing how much that helps with your stamina. Last year for my trip in September I started walking the end of May, it really works.
And as others stated, take a break in the afternoon if you start early in the day. Even on my solo trip last year, I went back to my resort in the afternoon. That break in the afternoon always helps.
Pace yourself, drink plenty of fluids and enjoy!!!!

Thanks for all the great advice!!! welovedisneyx4 you are absolutely right about that hill. We hit Loch Ness late in the day and then hoofed it over to Alpengiest. By the time I got off that I felt like I had a hangover :earseek:

I never really thought about the issues of the hills in BG. Its a great park but alot of ups and downs in the terain. Great workout though.

I am still concerned about the mid afternoon break. I think its a great Idea but I am worried we will sleep late and miss out on the evening fun. I guess I will just try it the first day and see how it works out.

Thanks again for all the advice.

Yep I agree I am now in officail training for our xmas holiday...trying to pursuade the over half that he need to I think he is going to be a shock..its his first visit.

My mom and I took mid-PM breaks on our July 2000 trip. We left the parks after lunch (around 1-2) and went back for dinner (5-6) and stayed until close. We didn't find that we had a hard time getting up again to head to the parks after a break, just the oposit in fact. We were recharged and ready to go!!!

Try getting into "theme park" shape like the other poster suggested, and take those breaks, it will make all the differance.

Oh, and try wearing a hat durring the day. I find having the sun beat down on my poor head gives me a headache and makes me tired. :umbrella:
